Non-Governmental Organization Struggle in Nigerian Democratic System
Democracy is fundamental to any nation's growth, stability, and harmony. Nigeria's path to democratic governance has been complex and challenging, marked by corruption, military interventions, and persistent political instability. In this context, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have emerged as vital actors in promoting social justice, human rights, and good governance. This study evaluates the role and struggles of NGOs within Nigeria's democratic system, with a specific focus on Ilorin metropolis in Kwara State. Using a survey research design and a sample size of 155 respondents determined through Taro Yamane's formula, the study gathered data from residents to assess perceptions of NGO effectiveness and engagement. Findings reveal that NGOs must proactively engage policymakers and governmental institutions to influence policy formulation and implementation. However, a minority of respondents (10) strongly disagreed with the proposition that increased funding from government and international donors is necessary for NGOs to function effectively. The study recommends enhanced collaboration between NGOs and public officials to strengthen democratic governance through improved communication, policy advocacy, and institutional partnerships
Integration of Islamic Religious Education and Modern Economics: Revitalizing The Four Prophet Muhammad’s Character Pillars As A Role Model For Mu’amalah Practices Among Gen-Z
This study aims to critically examine the synergy between Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and the modern economy through the revitalization of the four prophetic traits of Prophet Muhammad PBUH namely is shiddiq, amanah, tabligh, and fathanah, as an alternative approach to shaping the economic character of Generation Z. The research was conducted using a library research method by reviewing various relevant literature to develop a transformative and applicable educational model. The findings indicate an urgent need to redesign PAI learning so that it becomes more adaptive to technological advancements and capable of fostering active student engagement in understanding socio-economic dynamics. Furthermore, the contribution of this revitalization in the PAI learning system should be thoroughly formulated and implemented to produce a generation that is not only spiritually devout but also competent, possesses integrity, and is committed to social justice and sustainability. On the other hand, there are several foundational tasks that must be addressed prior to its realization. These include the need for curriculum enhancement programs, increased professionalism among all educational components, and the development of an integrative evaluation system to help establish a dignified Islamic economic system
Women's Actualization in Batikization in the Penginyongan Area as an Effort to Explore Islamic Values
This study examines the role of women in the batik-making tradition of the Penginyongan region, aiming to reveal the underlying Islamic values embedded within this cultural practice. Gender-based and drawing on cultural studies, this interdisciplinary research emphasizes that women's involvement in batik is not just a routine activity but an integral part of their artistic and spiritual expression. The findings of this study reveal that the actualization of women in batik-making in the Penginyongan area, as a way to explore Islamic values, manifests in two main aspects. First, the Divine value in batik, where the act of making batik is seen as a form of worship, bringing the artisans closer to God. The process of creating batik, accompanied by prayer (wirid), embodies the belief that work itself can be a form of devotion, with prayer serving as nourishment that enhances the work. Second, the Human value in batik is reflected in the perseverance and appreciation for beauty embedded in the craft. The traditional techniques passed down through generations reflect local wisdom, with the use of natural materials for coloring and the motifs drawn in the batik symbolizing values of wisdom, harmony, and simplicity
Religious Moderation in Contestation: Dynamics and Impacts of Intergroup Tensions in Karangduwur Village, Petanahan, Kebumen
Religious moderation is essential for fostering harmony in pluralistic societies, yet its contestation poses significant challenges in certain communities. This study examines the dynamics of religious moderation in Karangduwur Village, Petanahan, Kebumen, where four religious groups Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (Moderate Islamic Group), Salafi Wahabi, and Salafi Jihadi (Conservative Islamic Group) compete within the domains of worship, education, and social institutions. Using a qualitative research methodology, data were gathered through documentation studies and content analysis to explore the drivers of contestation and their impact on communal harmony. Findings reveal that tensions arise from differing interpretations of religious moderation, ideological divides, and contested religious authority. These factors foster a community dynamic marked more by serawung kalis (together but apart) than serawung nyawiji (together but unified). Influences such as shifting religious authorities, the rise of social media, and improved education levels further amplify these challenges. The study underscores the interplay between these local dynamics and broader issues like democracy and Islamic populism in Indonesia. By highlighting the complexities of religious moderation, this research emphasizes its importance in promoting social harmony and democratic inclusivity
Unemployment among Active Population and Poverty Level in Nigeria
The socioeconomic problems of poverty and unemployment among the active population are interwoven and continue to impede Nigeria's capacity for progress. Despite being the one of the biggest economies in Africa, the nation struggles to create jobs, especially for its growing youth population. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that in the first quarter of 2021, Nigeria's unemployment rate increased to more than 33%, with youth unemployment making up about 53% of the country's total unemployed population. Increased poverty, social discontent, and economic stagnation are all consequences of this escalating crisis for both people and society. Following this, this study aims to evaluate unemployment among active population and poverty level in Nigeria. The participants in this study were residents of Ogun State's Ilaro metropolis. The sample size was calculated using the population figure, from which a total of 128 responders were chosen. The research selected for this study was survey research design and Taro Yamane's formula was utilized. The results based on respondents' responses show that Nigerian government should implement comprehensive educational reforms that focus on equipping students with practical skills relevant to the job market. Additionally, 13 of the respondents strongly disagreed that initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship among the youth should be prioritized. The study recommends development of initiatives to lower youth unemployment and poverty, the government should work with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and foreign organizations. These collaborations can guarantee the successful execution of projects and improve resource mobilization
Qur'anic Critique of Exploitative Anthropocentrism: Exegesis of Verses on Land and Nature in the Context of Raja Ampat Mining
This article explores the ethical foundations of the Qur'an in addressing ecological degradation resulting from mining activities in protected areas, with particular attention to the case of nickel extraction in Raja Ampat. Employing a thematic and contextual hermeneutical approach, this library-based study analyzes four key Qur'anic verses (Hūd [11]: 61, Al-Baqarah [2]: 30, Ar-Rūm [30]: 41, and Ar-Raḥmān [55]: 7–9) which articulate the notions of land, human trusteeship (khalīfah), corruption (fasād), and ecological balance (mīzān). The analysis finds that classical anthropocentric interpretations often overlook ecological responsibility and fail to confront systemic exploitation. By integrating perspectives from contemporary Islamic eco-theology and the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah), the study reinterprets these verses as a theological critique of extractive capitalism and as a foundation for an ethical framework centered on environmental justice. It concludes that the Qur'an offers a critical discourse against ecological destruction and calls for a prophetic shift in tafsir towards sustainability, justice, and the preservation of creation. This research contributes to the development of an interdisciplinary ecological hermeneutics within Islamic scholarship, offering timely relevance to the climate and ecological crises of the 21st century

Halal Certification of Cryptocurrency: A Framework for Strengthening Trust in Shariah-Compliant Digital Finance
Cryptocurrency has emerged as a significant global innovation that continues to stimulate debates regarding its permissibility within the framework of Islamic finance. This study examines Islamic legal perspectives on cryptocurrency by analyzing contemporary fatwas, academic discussions, and authoritative literature in the fields of ushul fiqh and Islamic economics. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research identifies key legal considerations such as the presence of gharar, maysir, and riba, which determine the Shariah status of digital assets. The findings reveal that, in principle, cryptocurrency may be considered halal as a digital asset when it has straightforward utility, is transparent, and used for lawful economic activities. Several scholars view cryptocurrency as permissible when supported by reliable technology, adequate regulatory structures, and mechanisms that prevent fraud and speculation. Conversely, other scholars classify it as haram due to its extreme price volatility, speculative trading practices, lack of tangible underlying value, and inadequate regulatory oversight in many jurisdictions. To bridge these differing views, the study proposes developing Shariah-based assessment frameworks and halal certification mechanisms to provide greater legal clarity for Muslim investors. Furthermore, it underscores the urgent need for stronger regulatory policies and the advancement of Shariah-compliant blockchain systems that ensure ethical, transparent, and stable digital financial transactions
