A Review in Spoken Language Teaching
This paper aims to describe the types of spoken language for English Language teaching. Spoken language’ types considered to be varied and complex particularly to the country which its first language is not English. To implement the spoken language type in the subject, such speaking class, it is crucial to comprehend these types of spoken language. It is found that adjacency, turn-taking, and exchange were the most implemented types during the presenting speaking in the class. It is resolved that the vary the types applied in the class, the more the knowledge and classroom’s situation would be delighted
A Study on EFL Higher Education Student’s Ability to Analyze Grammatical Simple-Past and Past-Perfect Tenses
This study attempts to determine the students` Ability to Analyze the Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses. The authors used the descriptive method in this study. The population of the research were the fifth semester students of Faculty of Literature UMI Makassar in academic year 2018/2019. The sample of the study consisted of 20 students and were chosen through random sampling method. The istruments used were two kinds of instrument namely objective test and questionnaire to acquire data on their analytical capability of the simple past and past perfect tenses. Findings revealed that the ability of the fifth semester students was deemed as fair. This depicts that the students` ability to analyze Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses is 59, 20 which was condidered as fair. The problems found faced by the students ability to Analyze the Simple Past and Past Perfect Tenses were; (1) sometimes students were confused in analyzing simple past and past perfect tenses due to the lack of basic knowledge, (2) there were many students who did not have rich vocabularies after they graduated from high school, (3) they had forgotten the pattern of the tenses, and (4) students were still having difficulties to differentiate between simple past and past perfect tenses. The implication of this study is that fresh graduates of senior high school are still lacking the necessary requirements to fullfil the standard English language competency which leads to poor language outcome of the Indonesian high schools today. Hence, the study srongly suggests that it is essential to pay special attention on senior high school students’ second language acquisition before continuing their study in Higher Education
An Analysis of EFL Students’ Difficulties in Writing At The Second Grade of SMAN 1 Wundulako
This research was conducted to investigate the most difficult aspect faced by students in writing. The research question addressed in this research was: “what is the most difficult aspect faced by the students in writing?”.The design of this research was a case study. In conducting this research, the researcher took class XI IPA 1 of SMAN 1 Wundulako as a subject of the research with considerable that the class have the low est score in writing. The researcher used two kinds of data collection. They were questionnaire and interview. The sample of the research was class IX IPA 1 which consisted of 28 students. While in analyzing the data, the researcher analyzed the data of questionnaire by using the formula which proposed by Nazir and for the data of interview the researcher used technique of data analysis proposed Ngabut such as data reduction, data display and verifying and conclusion.
In representing the analysis, it was found out that the students of SMAN 1 Wundulako especially in the second grade class XI IPA 1 got four difficulties in writing. They were content organization vocabulary and grammar. From four aspects of three components, the vocabulary mastery aspect was considered as the difficult aspects that faced by the students in writing. The third statement of vocabulary aspect in the questionnaire was a difficulties that often faced by the students. It was shown by the result of questionnaire and interview with the percentage 3,53 mean and writng test also to support its students lack vocabulary, its concluded students of SMAN 1 Wundulako difficulties in writing
A Politeness Language Study of Karampuang Culture in Sinjai, South Sulawesi
The aims of this research is to explore and to represent the form and the characteristics of linguistic politeness, in buginese Karampuang Sinjai, South Sulawesi society. The method employed was descriptive method. The source of data divided into two categories, primary data will be collected and analyzed as an object of the people in Karampuang Sinjai. Secondary data that was some literature related to the object analyzed. The result of this research show the characteristics and the forms of linguistic politeness in Karampuang Sinjai, South Sulawesi.
 
Authentic Assessment: Portfolio-Based Assessment in Literacy Learning in Indonesian Schools
Comprehensive evaluation and emphasis on the student activity process as well as providing broad wiggle room for students is needed in learning assessment. Literacy assessment with such a model is necessary to improve students' literacy skills. One assessment model that puts pressure on student activity and provides ample space for everyone to respond to an assignment in its own way is the assessment of portfolio. This paper aims to explore portfolio assessments as part of an authentic assessment for use in literacy assessments. This research uses literart research study method to provide an overview of the use of portfolios in literacy assessments in Indonesian schools. Portfolio assessment on students’ literacy skills is carried out through Indonesian language learning, especially on the efficacy of writing. The portfolio assessment adopted uses models offered by Hamp-Lyons and Condon (2000) consisting of collection, selection, and reflection. Assessments are carried out by combining formative and summative assessments. To balance the summative aspects of portfolio assessment, several formative strategies can be adopted (Lee & Lam, 2009), including (1) ongoing teacher feedback, (2) conferences, and (3) peer reviews.  
An Analysis Ma’rimpa Salo As A Traditional Culture In Sinjai Regency (A Cultural Approach)
The purpose of this study is to know the local culture in Sinjai. As we see today is the technology and foreign cultures that keep us from the life and culture of our ancestors gradually been worn. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method that given images or facts. The writer needed library research, field research, observation, interview, and documentation to support the data. Marimpa Salo is dispels activities from upstream to the mouth of the fish is done in two villages namely Sanjai Village and Bua Village, both of which are mediated by Appareng River. This tradition has been carried out in the time of Bulo Bulo kingdom are still preserved Sinjai district until now. The results of this study are expected to be fruitful thought "let 's preserve our culture for posterity and for Indonesia”

Sejak munculnya Agama Islam perhatian terhadap bahasa sangat besar artinya ini disebabkan karena tak satupun pembahasan dalam kajian keislaman baik itu fiqih, tafsir, hadits yang tidak menggunakan bahasa sebagai acuan pertama dan utama. Seiring dengan munculnya ilmu filsafat kedalam kajian Islam maka bahasa mengalami perkembangan yang luar biasa sebagaimana kita saksikan pada abad kedua dan ketiga hijriah, lahirnya para pakar ilmu bahasa yang membahas bahasa dari segala aspek, bukan hanya aspek nahwu, saraf semata tapi sudah masuk ke pembahasan filsafat bahasa bahkan akhirnya munculah macam-macam kajian bahasa seperti sosiolinguistik, psikolinguistik, dll. Hal ini membuat para pengkaji baik bahasa baik di timur tengah maupun di Barat terjadi saling melengkapi.
 
The Role of ESP in Fostering EFL Students' English Competence

Language coverage in ESP in certain cases is different from general English. ESP programs and materials are goal-oriented, therefore it needs to be understood that English has function and role as a tool of communication in conveying thoughts and feelings to others. The well-designed and developed ESP programs and materials are expected to have a role to improve their English competence specifically. The Performance Of English Speaking Skill Used By The Receptionist of Purna Wisata Tour And Travel
The reseach objectives are to know whats ymbols are performed in Lariangi dance and what meaning are conveyed in the symbols performed in Lariangi dance. The research used descriptive qualitative method to take information. The writer obsereved the house in Liya village and took some informations from them and interviewed and documented by using recorded and camera. This research also took the datum from some books, articles, internet which associat with the symbols in Lariangi dance in Wakatobi Southeast Sulawesi. The research resulted in the part of symbols in Lariangi dance start from dress, accessories, movement of the dance and the songs of Lariangi dance. The result of the research was consisted in four part. First, the symbols found in dress there are six namely Kombo Monihi, Kombo Meha, Punto/Wuray Nibelo Biru, Laka/Wuray Meha, Kambero, and Lenso/Saputangan symbolyzes sweat rag of King Buton. The second, there are eight symbols and their meaning found in accessories, namely Panto and Pintoru, Hepupu/Konde, Kamba Konde, Toboy Kamba, Hebindu/Sangi-Sangi, Kalo, Naga, Sekori Keponto Posusu symbolyzes degrees nobility. The third, there are four symbols found in movement of Lariangi dance namely, Hematu kepooli le..le, Pajogi/Nyibing/Ngifi, Nabu/Tau, and Lariangi symbolyzes Lighting. The last is symbols found in song of Lariangi dance there are nine songs namely Mangu-Mangu, Ole-Ole, Doumaraia, Denda Aule, Sailila, Waindi-Indi, Rongande, Jojongana, and Salatu symbolyzes as thankful to Allah SWT
Improve Students’ Skills in Listening Comprehension by Using Song Based on Multimedia
In order to improve the quality of learning English, especially listening skills, students of the English Literature Study Program and the English Language Education Study Program submitted the research title "Improving the Skill of Student Multimedia Comprehension Listening Through Multimedia-Based Song Media." The specific objectives of this study were to: 1) improve listening skills in English-speaking students of the English Language and Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Letters of UMI; 2) developing listening learning models with multimedia-based song media. This research was conducted in the UMI English Literature and English Language Education Study Program at the Faculty of Letters with targeted results as follows: 1) in one year this was a valid draft model for learning listening with multimedia-based song media. The method used in this study is action research with a population of 156 students. This study produced a draft listening comprehension model, the results of the study showed that the learning process of Listening comprehension used multimedia-based songs with subtitles of positive student responses. From the questionnaire / questionnaire / close questionnaire shows ≥ 75% of students respond more easily and prefer the learning process to understand meaning and understand what is heard from native speakers in learning listening comprehension. This study recommends for listening lecturers to use songs as one of the media in learning that will improve student skills
