Perception of CRS 2024 board takers on the factors of their licensure exam performance: a descriptive study
This study aims to describe and determine the perception scores of Batch 2024 De La Salle Medical Health and Sciences Institute CRS board takers under perceived factors on their November- December 2024 Licensure Examination performance. These factors include Review Factor, Candidate Factor, School Factor, and Examination Factor, based on a study by Kuhutan et al. (2024). A quantitative descriptive research design was used, and convenience sampling was employed to gather 28 Physical Therapy, 8 Occupational Therapy, and 4 Speech-Language Pathology respondents out of 243 board takers. A survey was conducted using a questionnaire adapted from Butcon et al. (2021) and Kuhutan et al. (2024). It employed a 5-point Likert scale and was administered via Google Forms to gather insights into graduates\u27 perceptions of factors influencing their licensure examination. The study found that all four factors were perceived as having a “High” or “Very High” influence on the licensure examination performance of Batch 2024 College of Rehabilitation Sciences Board Takers. However, these findings may not be generalizable to the entire population, as the 40 participants represent only 16.46% of the total 243 board takers. Amont the factors assessed, the Review Factor was perceived as a “Very High Influencing Factor,” while the rest were interpreted as “High Influencing Factors.” These results may serve as a valuable reference for future CRS board takers preparing for the licensure examination. It may be suggested that CRS review mentors, faculty, and staff focus on enhancing the Candidate, School, and Examination Factors to ensure a well-rounded approach to licensure examination preparation
The knowledge, attitude, and perception of Filipino physical therapists towards the universal health care act in the Philippines
The Universal Health Care (UHC) Act aims to promote equitable access to affordable health services for all Filipinos. Despite its promising framework, challenges remain in translating UHC policies into effective practice, particularly within the rehabilitation sector. Given the essential role of physical therapists (PTs) in rehabilitation, it is crucial to examine their knowledge, attitude, and perception of the UHC Act and its implications for physical therapy practice. This study employed a quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional design and gathered data through an online survey of 54 licensed PTs in the Philippines with at least one year of clinical experience. Findings revealed that participants demonstrated a moderate level of knowledge, a favorable attitude, and a generally positive perception of the UHC Act. However, notable differences emerged based on practice setting (public vs. private), location (urban vs. rural), and years of professional experience. Despite overall support for the Act\u27s goals, most respondents reported that the UHC Act has had little to no direct impact on their practice. This highlights significant gaps in implementation, a lack of prioritization of rehabilitation services within national health initiatives, and the need for more inclusive strategies. The results underscore the importance of targeted educational programs to address knowledge gaps among PTs, as well as the development of more effective implementation frameworks. Strengthening these areas could enhance the role of physical therapists within the healthcare system and ensure that both practitioners and patients fully benefit from the UHC Act
Antifungal efficacy and phytochemical composition of propolis extract from stingless bees (Tetragonula biroi) against targeted fungal species
In light of the escalating global concerns regarding antifungal resistance and the limited availability of effective treatments for fungal pathogens, this study rigorously examines the antifungal efficacy and phytochemical composition of propolis extract. Sourced from Tetragonula biroi, a highly abundant and native stingless bee species to the Philippines, this research systematically investigates how the rich array of bioactive secondary metabolites within its propolis contributes to its potential as a novel natural antifungal agent. The ethanolic propolis extract, obtained via rotary evaporation, underwent comprehensive qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis to identify and quantify its bioactive secondary metabolites, specifically flavanonoids, phenolic compounds, and terpenoids. Quantitative analysis revealed a high content of bioactive secondary metabolites, with phenolics being the most abundant (243.92 mg GAE/g), followed by flavonoids (22.91 mg QE/g) and terpenoids (8.50 LE/g), all known for their potent antimicrobial properties. The extract demonstrated significant antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 250 mg/mL (90.21% inhibition) over 72 hours, and substantial inhibition against Candida albicans (MIC 250 mg/mL, 93.01% inhibition) and Candida tropicalis (MIC 750 mg/mL, 90.23% inhibition), supporting T. biroi propolis as a promising natural source for fungal infections
