Open Data Infrastructures in Africa
This presentation discusses the need for an open data infrastructure for research in the Arfican context. The typical fate of data as opposed to the fate of other scholarly output such as journal articles is considered as the problem at hand. Some discussion on various definitions of Open Data and initiatives of relevance in Africa follows, and we touch on the FAIR principles of FORCE11. We then discuss the services needed improve the fate of data and propose how the Sci-GaIA project is delivering these. Finally, the role of the NREN is discussed in developing sustainable approaches to the development of these open scientific data infrastructures in Africa
