Comparing Writing Errors of English Compositions for Boy and Girl Students in the English Graders of Southern Taiwan
Get PDFThis study aims to investigate the comparison of the English writing errors for both boy and girl students in the eighth graders’ English writing performance. The researcher collected 26 copies of English writing pieces from 26 boy and girl students in the eighth graders at Affiliated Junior High School of National Kaohsiung Normal University. This study is conducted with both qualitative and quantitative analysis. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows:
The results show that the levels of boy and girl students’ English writing proficiency are mixed and most boy and girl students are less-experienced writers.
All of the errors committed by boy and girl students are mainly fall upon lexical errors and grammatical errors. In addition, subcategorization is made 11 subcategories are listed under the two major error types.
Among 26 copies of writing pieces, approximately about 65 % refers to grammatical errors and 26 % refers to lexical errors respectively.
Possible factors in the English writing errors may refer to interlingual interference, intralingual interference, induced errors, cultural differences, structural differences, and carelessness

The story is set in a small Indian but fictitious town called Shahkot. Sampath is the protagonist who belongs to a middle class family. After experiencing drastic boredom in his life, Sampath decides to spend his life in trees. And then after, the story reveals its real mood. At a deeper level, the novel displays the theme of alienation, magic realism, rebellion, etc. Desai is a masterful dialogue writer, and she uses this skill to great effect in Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard. She infuses the dialogue with local idioms and paints a vivid portrait of life in a small city in India. With a clear objective of writing a comic satire, she also makes a satirical attack against the creation of gurus in Indian society

No full textThe prism of female writing has expanded itself in the current scenario. Contemporary writers have broken all the shackles of the feudal society and have come forward to make people aware of the ubiquitous and distressing condition of women. The unapologetic and unabashedly realistic portrayal of women bound in the shackles of caste and gender in Tehmina Durrani’s Blasphemy and Nawal El Saadawi’s Woman at Point Zero brings to surface some of the major issues concerning women’s plight. The issues of captivity, matrimony, violence, subjugation and sexism are delineated with prowess. Blasphemy and Woman at Point Zero through the narratives of their protagonists Heer and Firdaus disclose religious and patriarchal norms as a tool to subjugate and oppress women in an orthodox society. Tehmina Durrani’s Blasphemy depicts how distorted Islamic family code of conduct is thrust upon women compelling them to cohere to fundamental values of wedlock, motherhood, servitude and domesticity. Heer becomes a prisoner in her own haveli after her marriage to Pir Sain. Whereas Nawal El Saadawi in Woman at Point Zero portrays the captive life of Firdaus who is a female prisoner, waiting for her execution. The female characters demonstrate how the social, cultural and political structures are responsible for their captivity, degradation and violation.
The present paper attempts to critically study and draw comparison between the two female protagonists. Heer and Firdaus turn captives in the haveli and prison respectively, but eventually they rip off the fake mask of the society which claims to protect women behind the veil of hypocrisy, strangulating even their basic right to be treated as a human

Nature and Romanticism are synonyms with each other that we can not talk about Romanticism without talking about nature. Al-Shabbi took from it a refuge during hard times where he finds himself in dire need for lap away from the social injustice particularly when his country, Tunisia, was under the French colonialism.
