Le Morte d’Arthur as Literary Remediation Process to RPG Game
Get PDFThis article presents a proposal for the elaboration of an RPG game with board support based on the remediation of literary narratives and which is thought both for use in the classroom, as a didactic tool, but understood essentially as a playful activity. For that, we first start an observation about the act of playing and what it means in society and in linguistic terms. Subsequently, we are concerned with defining what a game is so that we can effectively present the proposal. To better exemplify it, we present as an example the remediation of Arthurian legends from Le Morte d’Arthur, by Thomas Malory, a project that we have previously tested. The discussion about the behaviour of games then runs through authors such as Johan Huizinga (1980) and Jesper Juul (2005)

Get PDFThis paper close reads the short story collection Intriguing Women by Laxmi Raj Sharma to explicate upon the theme of ideological subversion within it. Sharma deploys his female characters as agents of destabilisation that assert their own identity and thus question the dominant social constructs. In doing this, these characters raise questions about the ruling ideology and its established norms of behavior, selfhood and performance. While Sharma’s usage of motifs and structural forms makes the stories works of art, the actions of his characters make them didactic and pushes the readers towards questioning some of their fundamental assumptions

The new emerging tendency of people to appear like a supermodel in social media and to draw the interest of others by adding beauty filters not only sends an ambiguous message about beauty, but also produces a false claim of appearance where teenagers like to \u27fake it.\u27 Beauty has always been the contentious subject in most fictional works and specially in fairy tales. Classic fairy tales portray their heroine as a beautiful being, a picture-perfect substance. They are celebrated not for their confidence or bravery, but for their outward appearance, clothing and jewels. Thus, every girl child has a fantasy of finding a Fairy God Mother who can turn her into a stunning, attractive princess and only then, they can meet their prince charming and happily ever after. But things are not the same, they don’t have God Mother or they don’t want to remain as a beautiful angel, rather, they want to be ordinary with full of courage and confidence to fight back to any evil. They don’t need any prince charming to fight for her rather they want to fight for their own. This paper will study the contrast between the classical and modern story of Cinderella in Children Literature and also explore how the concept of beauty is changing in the modern books and fairy tales

Sea levels are rising like anything and oceans are becoming warmer. The Wind From Nowhere is one of the insightful novels in the contemporary age where Ballard prophesizes the vision of an eco-catastrophe triggered by human induced global warming leaving earth totally unfit for human survival which can turn into reality anytime. The aim of this paper is to explore how Ballard portrays that vision of eco-catastrophe using the metaphor of cyclonic winds which create havoc all over the world. It also illustrates the creepy imageries and undertones of the catastrophic setting presented in the novel, in which people are reduced to beastly mode of survival. Particular emphasis is given on the psychological effects of the altered environment on the characters in the novel. It was a break away from the patriarchal system, and women emerging as independent being and moving towards achieving gender equality. The ‘New Woman’ is considered as a precursor to the feminist movement and thus the legacy of New Woman lives on to this day. Jhumpa Lahiri, the significant writer of the Indian diaspora has emerged on the global literary scene with her remarkable writings. The novel has a compelling plot of family relations. It delineates the tender fraternal bond between Subhash and Udayan and how it gets affected by the various paths they chose in their lives. This intensely emotional tale unfolds diverse dimensions of the woman caught in the predicament of conservative cultural practices at home, political unrest in society and the life of an exile in the immigrant land. It also explores Gauri’s expression of identity, her struggle with love, Bela’s choice for individuality and pragmatism in life has turned the novel into a unique narrative. In her second novel, ‘The Lowland’ Jhumpa portrays her women characters devaluing the patriarchal setup. They break the myths of womanhood and motherhood.
