Stubbi: an Interactive Device for Enhancing Remote Text and Voice Communication in Small Intimate Groups through Simple Physical Movements
The remote communication within intimate groups can be challenging due to lack of or excessive of non-verbal messages, which lack physicality. In this paper, we introduce Stubbi, a device designed to enhance remote text and voice communication in small intimate groups by enabling the exchange of simple physical movements. Each group member is equipped with Stubbi, which consists of three stubs that represent each person and enable the expression of physical movements through height changes and rotation. Our in-lab study involving six groups of three friends revealed that Stubbi effectively maintained the flow of IM conversations by increasing attentiveness and responsiveness. Additionally, in group voice calls, the exchange of personified messages through physical movements of the stubs assisted group interactions, such as turn-taking. Our findings suggest faurther implications for designing interactive systems that can support improved remote communication by seamlessly connecting IM and voice call conversations for small intimate groups
Nitrogen-Doped Titanium Carbide (Ti3C2Tx) MXene Nanosheet Stack For Long-Term Stability and Efficacy in Au and Ag Recovery
The development of efficient adsorbents for the practical recovery of precious metals from electronic waste is vital to advanced energy/environment industries. Ti3C2Tx MXene-based materials are promising adsorbents for aqueous environments; however, the highly defective and super hydrophilic nature of the MXene surface hinders its practical applications. Here, we report that nitrogen-doped MXene (N-MXene) nanosheet stacks, prepared via high-energy planetary ball milling under N-2 purging, exhibited a long-term stable and excellent recovery capability for Au and Ag ions via the nitrogenation of defective vacancies. Notably, these microscale nanosheets could facilitate the sustainable production of Au and Ag from secondary sources, exhibiting a high recovery rate and capability (1198 mg g(-1) for Au and 1528 mg g(-1) for Ag), long-term stable storability (21 d), and high selectivity (K-d of 1.67 x 10(6) for Au and 2.07 x 10(7) for Ag). Furthermore, the reversible redox chemistry of N-MXene facilitated its repeated use in adsorption/desorption cycles
The motivational effect of perceived failure stigma for re-starting entrepreneurs
The current study challenges the prevailing perspective that failure stigma is uniformly detrimental to entrepreneurs. Drawing on social identity theory and stereotype reactance theory, we develop a model that portrays perceived failure stigma as a source of motivation for entrepreneurs??? restarting endeavors. We predict that perceiving failure stigma may increase restarting entrepreneurs??? desire to defy the negative stigma, which in turn leads to more opportunity recognition activities and improved new venture performance. We further consider entrepreneurs??? external attribution of failure as a boundary condition in the relationship between perceived stigma and desire to defy stigma. We tested our hypotheses by collecting three waves of survey data from 348 Korean entrepreneurs who had entrepreneurial failure experience and restarted new venture after failure. Our findings provide support for the positive effect of perceived stigma on restarting entrepreneurs??? opportunity recognition activities and new venture performance through their desire to defy stigma. We also find that entrepreneurs??? external attribution of failure accentuated the effect of perceived failure stigma on desire to defy stigma. The research and practical implications of these findings are discussed

Privacy concern and its consequences: A meta-analysis
Concern about information privacy (???privacy concern???) and its consequences has been a frequent topic of research that spans privacy theories (e.g., privacy calculus theory) and non-privacy theories (e.g., organizational justice theory) alike. In empirical research, drawing from various theories and research designs, studies have produced widely divergent findings yet to be fully explained. Such conflicting results can misinform researchers, organizations, and policymakers about privacy concerns and what type of privacy policies and regulations should be enacted. To provide meaningful and conclusive implications, a meta-analysis of 181 independent studies (N = 99,092) was conducted to consolidate the current literature on privacy concern. The meta-analysis revealed that privacy concern exhibited significant relationships with selected consequences (e.g., trust, disclosure intentions, protection behavior). Even so, moderator analyses demonstrated that theoretical (e.g., culture) and methodological (e.g., measurement instrument) factors influence certain privacy concern relationships. Supplementary analyses revealed that the ???privacy paradox??? phenomenon is generalizable in that privacy concern exhibited a larger impact on behavioral intentions than on actual behavior. The theoretical and practical implications of the research findings are discussed and future research topics proposed
Self-Oxidation Resistance of the Curved Surface of Achromatic Copper
Copper surfaces that exhibit a wide range of achromatic colors while still metallic have not been studied, despite advancements in antireflection coatings. A series of achromatic copper films grown with [111] preferred orientation by depositing 3D porous nanostructures is introduced via coherent/incoherent atomic sputtering epitaxy. The porous copper nanostructures self-regulate the giant oxidation resistance by constructing a curved surface that generates a series of monoatomic steps, followed by shrinkage of the lattice spacing of one or two surface layers. First-principles calculations confirm that these structural components cooperatively increase the energy barrier against oxygen penetration. The achromaticity of the single-crystalline porous copper films is systematically tuned by geometrical parameters such as pore size distribution and 3D linkage. The optimized achromatic copper films with high oxidation resistance show an unusual switching effect between superhydrophilicity and superhydrophobicity. The tailored 3D porous nanostructures can be a candidate material for numerous applications, such as antireflection coatings, microfluidic devices, droplet tweezers, and reversible wettability switches
Learning Decentralized Power Control in Cell-Free Massive MIMO Networks
This paper studies learning-based decentralized power control methods for cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems where a central processor (CP) controls access points (APs) through fronthaul coordination. To determine the transmission policy of distributed APs, it is essential to develop a network-wide collaborative optimization mechanism. To address this challenge, we design a cooperative learning (CL) framework which manages computation and coordination strategies of the CP and APs using dedicated deep neural network (DNN) modules. To build a versatile learning structure, the proposed CL is carefully designed such that its forward pass calculations are independent of the number of APs. To this end, we adopt a parameter reuse concept which installs an identical DNN module at all APs. Consequently, the proposed CL trained at a particular configuration can be readily applied to arbitrary AP populations. Numerical results validate the advantages of the proposed CL over conventional non-cooperative approaches
