Sunday school as a conflict resolution mechanism in churches of the Nigerian Baptist convention
The world is full of conflicts of many kinds. The churches of the Nigerian Baptist Convention are not exempted as many of the churches are confronted with many of these conflicts. These conflicts have to be resolved. This paper identifies some of the types of conflicts common in the churches of the Nigerian Baptist Convention. The paper presents Sunday School as a mechanism to resolve these conflicts and prevent and deescalate them. These are done by giving a brief definition of Sunday School, tracing its history to its origin in the eighteenth century, and then explaining how Sunday School can be used as a conflict resolution mechanism. The paper concludes with some recommendations. Amongst these recommendations are: stakeholders in the church should pay more attention to Sunday School activities in order to use the activities to prevent, deescalate, and resolve conflicts consciously; church leaders should, as much as possible, live exemplary lives devoid of conflicts; and the society in general and governments, in particular, should explore how to adapt Sunday School in resolving conflicts
The eNaira - Opportunities and challenges
Emerging technology activities are evolving and turning our world into a digital world. The digital world offers many digital inventions such as digital currency, smart devices, social media, digital devices, and the list continues. Digital or electronic currency initiatives such as eNaira are fast becoming a norm across countries as means of payment for goods and services. But many are concerned and worried about eNaira, lack of understanding of the opportunities and challenges of eNaira, and limited academic literature. eNaira is a digital currency or electronic currency which is accessible through the Internet without physical print. The introduced eNaira was rolled out on 25 October 2021, and the announcement gained a mixed reaction from the public as a result of the opportunities and challenges that come with it. This paper deployed a literature review approach to provide a comprehensive analysis of eNaira, the opportunities and challenges of eNaira for Nigerians and businesses (individuals and organizations). The paper found that eNaira presents some opportunities for the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) (apex bank) and Nigerians (customers). It assists Nigerians (customers) to access their money quickly, and CBN can monitor and control transactions and many more. Also, the study discovered that eNaira faces trust and many other challenges, but the existing challenges must be addressed for the opportunities to be derived. This paper contributes to academic knowledge by providing comprehensive information on eNaira, and discovering the opportunities and challenges of eNaira

When management and political business diverge: Surface eccentricity and the conceptual linkages
The general objective of this article is to locate a nexus between management and political business. An apparent eccentricity is noticeable in the placement of the research variables. The paper studies this scenario as surface eccentricity and attempts to provide the conceptual linkages. Political business is positioned in the paper as the important matters and affairs of civil administration or government which actually diverges from the notions of profit and loss accounts, tardy receivables and diminishing stock holdings usually associated with business and business management. The theme of inseparability of management theory and practice is further deeply explored in the article. In contextualizing this notion of inseparableness and then locating an empirical trajectory for the embedded analyses, the study became located within the setting of a specific political economy and the nation-state of Nigeria. The thesis of the paper is that management theory and practice are obligatory in the purposeful and effective political business, which borders on consummate decision-making
Ethnicity, identity and the search for a new social order: A study of Zakes Mda’s The Madonna of Excelsior and Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things
This research paper examines ethnicity and identity as represented in Zakes Mda’s The Madonna of Excelsior and Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things. In the reading of these novels one realises that the South African and Indian societies still face ethnic rivalry which has been a perennial problem from time immemorial. The bone of contention underlying this research is the fact that Zakes Mda and Arundhati Roy in their texts present societies fragmented by ethnic rivalry and identity crises which have hindered the effective evolution of these societies. This paper thus, seeks to answer the following questions: How is the fragmented nature of South Africa and India presented by Mda and Roy and what strategies are adopted by characters in these novels to remedy this situation? As a follow-up to these questions, this paper hypothesised that Zakes Mda and Arundhati Roy in similar ways highlight the predicaments of their societies and propose reconciliatory strategies through which these societies can evolve. To proceed with this study, we have chosen the postcolonial theory which aims at scrutinising the inter-human relationships in these societies as presented in these novels. Throughout the analysis, we realised that in societies with many ethnic groups, relationships are developed based on colour or tribal lines, or upon the binaries of the Manichean Allegory, which have a great impact on the relationship between characters. This led to the conclusion that a future space of peace, harmony and fraternity can only be achieved if characters express tolerance, respect each other, and above all reconcile their differences
Linguistic roles of surrogate language in the select literary texts
Language has verbal and nonverbal components and both of them complement each other in our daily communication. The former exists in spoken form and the latter uses body movement, musical instruments and sign language to convey meaning. Surrogate language is synonymous with nonverbal communication. This paper investigates the linguistic roles of surrogate language in the select literary texts. The study explores different media of surrogate language and states the roles of surrogate language in literary texts. This study adopts Katz, Blumler and Gurevitch’s Uses and Gratifications Theory. This theory states that audience use the mass media for their own purposes such as information, entertainment, messages, announcements and advertisements. The researcher selected seven literary texts using non-probability sampling method with particular reference to purposive sampling. The researcher made use of both primary and secondary sources such as textbooks, journal articles, theses and dictionaries. The author read, selected and jotted down surrogate language for easy presentation and analysis. It has been found out that in surrogate language, blind people can hear the sounds of the musical instruments and understand, deaf people can see the eye contacts of the speakers without bothering about the speech
Analysis of Tiv clitics
Tiv language has both major and minor word-formation processes, and cliticization belongs to the minor process. This study debunks an erroneous assertion by researchers of Tiv extraction that Tiv morphology is devoid of clitics. The non-inclusion of cliticization as a word-formation in Tiv is long overdue. Though clitics are infinitesimally small in the Tiv grammar, their minuteness should not be ignored. This paper argues that the Tiv language has enclitic m, which is added after its hosts, usually verbs, it performs pronominal functions. This paper classifies Tiv clitics, discusses the formation of clitics in Tiv, and states the functions of Tiv clitics. The researcher made use of observation as a primary source of data elicitation, and documentary sources were equally used in the review. It has been discovered that researchers on the Tiv language have not given any attention to clitics in the language. It has been found out that nam (give me) and wuhem (my co-wife) were considered as objects in the previous studies. Researchers mistook clitics for affixes. Finally, the Tiv language only has enclitics
Climatic variation and food security implications in sub-Sahara Africa
The changing temperature has been identified as a major factor militating against food and nutrition security in sub-Sahara Africa (SSA). The food production index and undernourished population growth index are used as a proxy for food and nutritional security. The study controlled climatic change responses on some agricultural characteristics and factors like the share of arable land, irrigation, population, and labor. The dynamic panel of the generalized method of moments (GMM) was applied to the global water balance empirical framework. The scope of the study is sub-Sahara Africa, drawn from 29 countries from 2000 to 2016. Findings from the study reveal that the short-run effect of temperature degrees increase poses at least -3.1% negative and significant impact on the food production while the long-run elasticity hits -7.5%. The controlled effect on arable land shows a positive impact on food production to the tune of 3.9%. Contrarily, arable land expansion reduces the undernourished population by -8.55%. Population increase, on the other hand, increases the undernourished population in the region to the tune of 11.95%. The study recommends the reservation of more arable land for agricultural practice. At the same time, the population control policy is encouraged to jointly negate the undesired effects of temperature on food and nutritional security timely now that food and nutritional security is the panacea for a standard of living
Affixation as a derivational process in Tiv
The study of morphology is of the essence in every language in order to understand the processes involved in word creation and inflection. Affixation in Tiv has been studied by many researchers, however, more attention is given to the inflectional aspect of Affixation in the language. Although, a well-cited book in Tiv treats both inflectional and derivational morphology in the language, this book does not study Affixation with a theoretical back up. In addition to that, the book features a misrepresentation about the derivational processes in Tiv, hence, the paper set to examine Affixation as a word-derivation process in Tiv using Hockett’s theory of Item-and–Arrangement and Item-and-Process. The researchers collected data for the study through primary and secondary sources. The study presents the following findings: nouns are derived from verbs by attaching the prefix {m-} to roots, formation of diminutive nouns is by adding the prefix {an-} to roots, and the derivation of nouns from adjectives is done through prefixation and suffixation of roots with {m-} and {-n} respectively. The study contributes to the existing literature on Tiv morphology by discovering the derivational processes in Tiv and removing the formation of agentive nouns from the derivational processes in the language in order to correct the misrepresentation of the agentive formation process as part of derivational Affixation
Youth engagement in internet begging and national development in Nigeria
The study is on youth engagement in Internet begging and national development. It was designed to examine how internet begging by youths influences the development of our nation Nigeria. The rationale for the study stemmed out of the high rate of youths engagement in internet begging and the fear of the detrimental effect it might have in the development of the nation. The study adopted the survey design. The study was guided by three research questions. Sample was 150 respondents drawn from Jos metropolis. Data were collected by means of a researcher made questionnaire titled Internet Begging and National Development Questionnaire (INBENDEQ) with reliability index of 0.78. Personal contact method was adopted in data collection. Simple percentage was used for data analysis with 50% as bench mark for all the research questions. Results revealed that poverty, displacement from homes and loss of jobs are the main reasons for internet begging by youths. Also it was gathered that internet begging makes youths lazy, and less responsible. The study found that internet begging affects national development due to propensity of leading to poverty and indebtedness among others. The author recommended that the government should empower youths to reduce poverty. Also situations that cause displacement and unemployment like crises, wars should be addressed so that people can go about their businesses well and earn their living
