Despite all these, documentary filmmakers in Nigeria have kept the documentary film genre alive. In recent times, however, some committed documentary filmmakers in Nigeria have established a platform where they are advancing the cause of the documentary film genre. The iRepresent (iREP) International Documentary Film Festival provides a stage for filmmakers to engage in constant conversations to improve the art and practice of documentary filmmaking. Film festivals have become vital avenues for networking among industry players, scholars, tourists and cinema audiences worldwide. This study examines the concept and activities of the iREP International Documentary Film Festival, intending to establish how it has provided a platform for the growth and sustainability of the documentary film culture in Nigeria. Using the Documentary (Film) theory and qualitative research method via in-depth (structured and unstructured) interviews, the study articulates the views of documentary film practitioners, film scholars and organisers of the film festival to interrogate the impact of iREP on the Nigerian documentary film landscape. The study concludes that in the last 12 years, the first international documentary film festival in Nigeria has not only engendered progressive conversation about the documentary film genre in Nigeria, but has created the enabling environment for the documentary film culture to thrive, survive and become a sustainable cinematic practice like the fiction film genre

African tech development: The ideal and summit of contemporary African philosophy and literary studies

    Get PDF
This treatise is a qualitative research in philosophy and literary studies aimed to assert the pertinence of African contemporary philosophy and ideologies to African technological development. The purpose of this study is to interrogate the significance of contemporary African philosophy and literary discourses for the stimulation of technological development in Africa and to assert that no society can develop or advance without thinkers, as science has no basis without philosophy. The expository and prescriptive methods were adopted in this study. Through the expository analysis, the discourse reveals that African philosophy and thinkers are most (generally) abstract and abstract and baseless philosophy is a liability rather than an asset; therefore inimical to tech development. Against this backdrop, it behooves to ask, as far as the global race for tech advancement is concerned, where does Africa stand? Of what relevance is African philosophy to African\u27s quest for tech development? How may mother Africa liberate her offspring from tech stagnation and subsequently assert herself in the global village driven by science and technology through her sons and daughters’ intellectual ingenuity? Based on the findings of this critical analysis, the treatise concludes that the ideal object and teleology of the contemporary African philosophy ought to be the postulation of pragmatic ideologies that are germane for advancing Africa’s sustainable development of science and technology. The study therefore recommends that contemporary African philosophy has no business with abstract, ossified and baseless speculations for the latter is a liability not an asset

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools have adopted more online courses, raising questions about the quality of education and student\u27s ability to adapt to changing learning environments. To gauge the readiness of 70 students for online learning, the researchers in this study performed an online survey. The results of the study demonstrated that pre-service teachers are well-prepared for the last online learning. It is possible to give students the option to select their own pace, task management, and course materials while considering the nature of emergency online learning. Students should be encouraged by their teachers to join online forums, ask questions, voice their views and opinions, and look for assistance when they encounter problems

Body adornment among the Krobo in Ghana: Hair, a crowning glory

    Get PDF
Since ancient times, body adornment has been a tradition in many cultures around the world and people still deck themselves out for a number of reasons. In Ghana, the phenomenon is pervasive among community members in almost all sixteen regions, including the Krobo of the Eastern Region, thereby projecting body adornment as part of the country’s national culture. Despite the case that any part of the human body can be adorned, the adornment of the hair on the human head has not been in focus among the Krobo of Ghana. Employing a qualitative approach and engaging multiple instruments (a semi-structured interview guide, non-participant observation, and document study), the study explored the adornment of the hair among the Krobo. Anchored on symbolic interaction theory, the findings of the study revealed that adornment of hair among the Krobo permeates three main thrusts: varying dimensions of hair plaiting or braiding, the wearing of scarves, and finally, the wearing of hats. In addition, the study revealed that the need for cultural symbolism is the main driver for adorning hair among the Krobo. Ultimately, the study broadens the existing literature base of the indigenous Ghanaian hair culture with reference to the Krobo people, at a time when such rich traditional ideals are rapidly declining. This tends to promote and preserve indigenous Krobo hair identity for posterity

Ethanomedically, cleome species have used to treat a variety of diseases such as fever, flu, headaches, coughs, snakebites, nephritis, inflammation, bronchitis, diarrhoea, skin conditions, liver disorders and malarial fever symptoms. This study reviewed the previous phytochemical analysis of this plant species, its bioactive flavonoids and terpenoids, tannins, alkaloids, anthraquinones and saponins which showed to be found in the various extracts of the plant. These bioactive compounds and extracts all showed antioxidant, anti-malarial, anti-cancer, antibacterial, and hepatoprotective effect. The enormous range of medicinal applications described thus far cannot be exaggerated, despite the fact that just a few species in this genus have been studied. Given their pharmacological properties, this plant species shows potential for further analytical studies and subsequent clinical trials to advance the plants\u27 therapeutic potential

The purpose of this study is to determine the level of satisfaction of pre-service teachers on the Thesis Right Webinar Research Writing Boot Camp and the link among their research skills, attitudes, and anxiety. This study employed a correlational research design. The respondents of this study are all 136 pre-service teachers enrolled in the CPE108 Research Methods course during the Second Semester of the Academic Year 2021-2022 who were determined through purposive sampling. They answered an adapted survey questionnaire which the data gathered were analyzed using frequency count, percentage rate, weighted mean, Pearson Products-Moment Correlational Coefficient, and Multiple Regression. The results showed that the pre-service teachers have a very high level of satisfaction on the Thesis Right Webinar. Also, pre-service teachers have very high level in terms of perceived research skills, research attitudes, and research anxiety. It is also revealed that there is no significant difference between the mean scores in the pre and post evaluation on their research skills and research attitudes. However, there is a significant difference in the research anxiety and over-all results. The results further revealed that research skills of pre-service teachers significantly influence their research attitudes but not their research anxiety. Whereas, their research attitudes significantly influence their research anxiety. However, there is a significant relationship on the impact in the level of their research skills and attitudes to their anxiety. Hence, the research advisers should promote a human-centered pedagogy.
