Internalization of the Structural Properties of WH-Questions: A Remedial Programme through Curricular Intervention
Teaching of a second or foreign language has always had grammar at its controversial core and the numerable issues arising out of it usually dominate theory, research and practice. Still, teaching of second language grammar evades the triangular network of theory-researchpractice. This paper singles out one hard spot for beginners (may be of primary level, but found in advanced learners, as well), namely the presence/absence of the auxiliary verb do in its past and present tense forms in WH-questions. The paper identifies the source and nature of the hard spot, presents it in terms of metalinguistic (grammatical) competence for teachers and communicative competence for learners. The paper has its theoretical basis on the fusion of three pedagogic constructs namely, curricular intervention, instructed learning and learner autonomy. It has also tried to establish the author’s conviction, though indirectly, that instead of waiting for a new method to come or trying any single method of the past, a judicious selection and fusion of elements from the practised methods of the past may work better in terms of learning outcomes
Ismat Chugtai’s “Lihaaf”: A Non-Normative Love Affair Between Two Women
Ismat Chughtai’s short story “Lihaaf” (The Quilt) created controversy as soon as it was published in 1942 in an Urdu journal “Adaab-E-Latif”. Although the story does not make any direct mention of same-sex relationships, it gained much notoriety for the depiction of the erotic relationship between Begum Jaan and her maid, Rabbu with sexual overtones. The hidden space of the zenana becomes the place on which homosexual relationship is practiced. The “lihaaf” or the quilt becomes a wrapping to hide the forbidden desires of the womenfolk. The story was considered obscene for writing about forbidden desire and narrated by a six-year-old girl who is an eye witness of the whole incident of lesbian desire, and the writer was summoned to the Lahore High court. Begum Jaan is married to a Nawab who is much older than her a no interest in her. She is uncared for and spends sleepless nights; she tries to attract the attention of her husband but in vain. It is hinted in the story that the Nawab is interested in slim and fair boys and it can be assumed that he is engaged in homosexual relationship with them. The story depicts the objectification of Begum Jaan in the domestic sphere and her desperate attempt to satisfy her sexual desire by engaging in a homoerotic desire with her masseur Rabbu. In this paper I will analyze the newly found lesbian identity of Begum and her sexual liberation as an attempt to defy the patriarchal norms and assertion of her self-identity

Towards a Heterotopic Turn: A Selected Analysis of Glück's A Village Life
“Heterotopia” is a minor concept within Foucault’s oeuvre, but one that has caught the attention of writers across a number of disciplines, particularly within Fine Arts and Geography. The concept appears three times within Foucault’s works: in the preface to The Order of Things ([1966] 2002); in Different Spaces ([1967] 1998); and in a radio recording Le Corps Utopique, Les Hétérotopies ([1966] 2009). “According to Foucault, heterotopias are spaces that operate to make existing orders legible. By doing so they unsettle received knowledge that is common sense – both revealing and destabilizing the foundations of knowledge. This destabilization renders knowledge opens to critique, introducing contingency into the present and demonstrating that if the order of things is socially produced, then it can be made differently” (Beckett et al. 2016, 4).
Though the poetry of Louise Glück (1943- ) is an exploration of the nuanced relationation between subject and context, there is little doubt on the fact that her texts have earned a spate of critical responses. Drawing from a theoretical apparatus, the Foucauldian concept of heterotopia, this paper focuses on the spatial analysis of Glück's poetry in her collection A Village Life (2009) which is replete with fields, thresholds, windows, with a major focus on her imaginative repertoire of heterotopic spaces including riverside, darkness, lonely fields, cemeteries

Climate Changes and its Psychological Impacts on African Americans: An Ecocritical Reading of “Floodtide” by Askia M.Toure
Natural disasters, climate changes and reminiscences of past collective memories often triggered tensions and rifts between the African Americans and the natural world. The natural hazards and severe climate changes cause psychological impacts and disrupt the mental health of African Americans. The mental health of a person is vulnerable and susceptible to sudden shocks and uncertainties. There is a high chance of risk in the disruption of mental equilibrium of a person who got impacted by the natural disaster and severe changes in the climate. It induces acute and chronic psychological impacts including trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, tensions in social affairs, depression, aggression and feelings of helplessness, fear, fatalism etc. The natural catastrophes induced by climate change have a high potential for sudden and severe psychological traumatic experiences raised due to the demise of a loved one, destruction to or loss of personal possession or physical injuries. But this did not result in a complete break away from nature. They own a deeper dynamic connection with nature. From nature, they experienced both its nectar and the thorns. The paper aspires to analyse the numerous ways in which nature constitutes and defines the lives of African Americans through the ecocritical reading of the African American nature poem “Floodtide” by Askia M. Toure
Myth Revisionism and the Reclamation of Lost Voices: A Critique of Recontextualization of Stereotypes in Selected Literary Texts
In the present scenario characterized by highly evolved postmodern advancements, myths and mythology astonishingly continue to replenish the aesthetic fundamentals of Indian culture. Indian Mythology, whose wide panorama spreads over the mighty epics The Ramayana and The Mahabharata, still moulds the base upon which human psyche is constructed. Myth Revisionism, the most influential trend in the postmodern literature, aims at foregrounding the concealed elements of the mythical literary artefacts, casting them the shades of contemporary relevance. This paper titled “Myth Revisionism and the Reclamation of Lost Voices- A Critique of Recontextualization of Stereotypes in Select Literary Texts”, embarks upon the analysis of the various approaches adopted by the stream of myth revisionism to centralize the marginalized characters in the epics so as to salvage their muted voices, with reference to The Palace of Illusions and The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Karna’s Wife: The Outcast’s Queen by Kavita Kane and The Liberation of Sita by P.Lalitha Kumari. The Palace of Illusions revolutionizes the character of Draupadi attributing her a chivalric self to explore the unexplored. The Forest of Enchantments offers a feministic reinterpretation of the epic The Ramayana, from the point of view of Sita. Karna’s Wife: The Outcast’s Queen creates a fictional character Uruvi (Karna’s wife) who retells the story of Karna with her adamant voice and The Liberation of Sita is a sojourn through the life of Sita who attains the lessons of self-reliance, self-realization and independence through her meetings with Shurpanaka, Ahalya, Renuka and her sister Urmila
