Terrane and core complex architecture of the Otago Schist in the Dunstan and Cairnmuir Mountains, New Zealand, from U-Pb and (U-Th)/He zircon dating
We report ten new zircon (U-Th)/He ages from psammitic greyschists collected in a southwest-northeast profile in the Otago Schist across the Dunstan and Cairnmuir Mountains, New Zealand. Six of the samples have accompanying new detrital zircon U-Pb ages. In this part of the Otago Schist, a broad antiformal core of garnet-biotite-albite zone schist defines a range-scale footwall block to the gently northeast-dipping Thomsons Gorge Fault and the gently southwest-dipping Cromwell Gorge faults. Hanging wall blocks above the faults comprise lower-grade chlorite zone schists. Nine schist samples from footwall and hanging wall blocks close to the low-angle faults exhibit a weighted mean (U-Th)/He age of 82 ± 3 Ma. We interpret that both low-angle fault systems were active prior to c. 82 Ma and confirm that they were extensional. We interpret the antiformal schist core as the late Early Cretaceous (c. \u3c 122–109 Ma) ductile extensional lower plate of a metamorphic core complex. The lower plate (footwall) core was juxtaposed against the upper plate (hanging wall) schists by the low-angle normal decollement faults. Detrital zircon U-Pb ages indicate Carboniferous, Permo-Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous maximum depositional ages of schist protoliths which demand more complex terrane and metamorphic interpretations for the Otago Schist than previously recognised

THE IMPACT OF UNIVERSAL FREE MEALS DURING COVID-19 ON FAMILY LIFE AND PERSPECTIVE OF SCHOOL MEALS IN CENTRAL WASHINGTON STATE
This study explored the impact of the USDA COVID-19 Universal Free Meal (UFM) waivers on family life, school meal participation, and child eating habits from parents with children in Central Washington state (WA) schools. n = 119 parents/caregivers with students who were in K-12th grade in Central WA from August 2019-February 2023 completed a 10 question electronic, and descriptive survey. The survey measured changes in participation in school lunch/breakfast pre to post COVID-19 waiver, which provided free meals for all children, and whether UFM were beneficial to families, impacted perception of school food, child’s sense of community at school and/or child’s willingness to try new foods. Results suggested that students were more likely to participate more frequently in school lunch and school breakfast when meals were free compared to when they were not free (χ2 2, N=238= 18.433, p = 2, N=238 = 19.032, p
A Comparison Between Naïve Bayes and Random Forest to Predict Breast Cancer
Accurate diagnosis of breast cancer is very beneficial as breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer in the US. This study compares two machine learning approaches to diagnose breast cancer using a publicly available dataset, which comprises of features computed from a digitized image of a fine needle aspirate (FNA). We employ two different machine learning techniques, namely Naïve Bayes and Random Forest to measure the accuracy of the diagnosis. Using 569 patient\u27s information and 31 features, the above three machine learning classifiers are implemented. According to the findings, the Random Forest classifier performed better than the Naïve Bayes method by reaching a 97.82% of accuracy. Furthermore, classification accuracy can be improved with the appropriate selection of the feature selection technique. Furthermore, this section explains the feature selection technique used in the study. The analysis procedure is discussed, and the dataset and the performance indicators are described
Personal Identity and Particles: The Relativity of Time, Internal Fluidity, and Social Progress in Orlando
This essay examines the structural choices Virginia Woolf makes in Orlando to mirror her prose with the relative models of time the protagonist experiences throughout the story. Comparing the leading theories in particle physics at the time Woolf wrote to her work shows that she was aware of these developments and incorporated this knowledge into her writing. Specifically, the relativity of time is used to mirror the relative nature of Orlando’s identity, as they change from man to woman throughout the course of the novel
An Alternative Strategy for Fabrication of Robust and Flexible Digital Microfluidic Devices
We present a new strategy for the fabrication of digital microfluidic (DMF) devices by research groups without access to well-equipped facilities. Compared to previously developed methods, it increases considerably device yield, and yet simplifies fabrication and enables flexible operation.To this end, we use large (260 and 400 μm) interelectrode gaps to optimize substrate fabrication, breaking the established constraint that gap dimensions must be small (usually \u3c 150 μm) for digital microfluidics. In fact, we show that interelectrode gaps are not limiting features for DMF performance, and may be quite large (\u3e 1 mm). Smooth droplet actuation is ensured by films of perfluoroalkoxy (PFA), which do not require additional coatings; films can be instantly replaced, without the necessity of annealing. Finally, our tests indicate that DMF devices can operate with large distances between plates and droplet volumes (up to 2 mm and 60 μL, respectively), which implies in a flexibility in device operation not observed before.Devices can move, split, and dispense from a reservoir, including droplets containing cells (the ciliated protozoa Tetrahymena thermophila). Altogether, we believe that the new strategy presented here will help expand the breadth of DMF applications
