Dance Capstone
The purpose of this presentation is to show the culmination of different performances, choreographic works, teaching experiences, and dance training we have been a part of during our time at Central Washington University. Through our respective websites, we are hoping to highlight specific elements that can be used in future professional dance endeavors. As we all have different goals for our futures in dance, we are able to demonstrate the different possibilities for what can come from our experiences and skills gained from the CWU Dance Program.

Does an Increased Intake of Eating Out at Restaurants Increase a College Student’s Knowledge on Food Origins?
Eating out is a popular activity for college students, it provides an opportunity for them to socialize and enjoy their meals. Students eating away from home has increased from an average of 2.1 times per week in the 1990s to an average of 6-8 times per week. College students are more likely to eat out than other groups. Having a better understanding about the origins of food may help to inform and affect a student’s knowledge. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if an increased rate of eating out affects college students’ knowledge of food origins. A survey instrument titled “Around the World in Eight Plates,” originally developed by researchers from the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative (MCURC) was used. This survey, plus an additional question measuring how many times per month students ate out was administered at Central Washington University (CWU) in the Winter 2022. The survey was originally used as an educational tool among university students, but the goal of this study was to compare eating out frequency with successful matching of food origin. The survey asked a sample of participants (n=155) to match 8 different foods to their country of origin. Participants were also asked how many times a month they eat at a restaurant. Eating out was not correlated with a student’s ability to match food to their country of origin. The results from this survey warrant further research into food origin knowledge and how eating out influences students’ knowledge on food origin
Construction Industry - Overlap of Safety and Project Management Sectors Regarding Tower Cranes
A number of locations in the US are increasing in population growth, resulting in new living developments across the board. With an increase in mid-rise or high-rise projects, the demand for construction services involving mobilized tower cranes has peaked. It is evident that maintaining a successful construction project can rely heavily on topics based around the tower crane. Therefore, it is important to focus on the safety, and project management components to a much higher degree when involving a tower crane to the project phase. In this study, it was identified that the construction industry is experiencing a lack of depth involving tower crane topics and knowledge. It was identified in specific, that there are many factors to consider from both project management and safety management perspective’s when implementing a tower crane to a project, resulting in an existing knowledge gap between the two overlapping sectors. These various factors were further developed and analyzed via qualitative interviews with current construction professionals in order to conduct findings and come to conclusions. Construction managers and safety professionals will benefit greatly from reviewing the listed strategies and factors, as this will help them think outside the box. The study will allow current construction professionals to review what others have endured negatively. The goal is to enhance the industries tower crane capabilities and create a more cohesive system between safety and project management divisions. With the erection of tower cranes increasing nationwide, it is vital to increase industry standards and management-based knowledge
Associations between Atherogenic Markers and Hearing Loss: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey: 2011-2012, 2015-2016
Hearing loss (HL) is a major public health problem affecting an estimated 1.5 billion of the global population that can lead to cognitive impairment, isolation and economic burden. Dyslipidemia, a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis, has been recently shown to be associated with hearing impairment. This study aimed to investigate the associations between such atherogenic markers and the degree of hearing loss using continuous NHANES data from cycle years 2011-2012 and 2015-2016. Utilizing Pure Tone Air Conduction Audiometry, laboratory and anthropometric data to analyze prevalence and odds ratios, this study included 8,955 adult participants ages 20-69. Results indicated that there were significant associations between gender, age, BMI and race/ethnicity and substantial hearing loss (
