Fostering Mutual Interest: Exploring the Dynamics of Regional Government Relations with the Regional People's Legislative Assembly in North Central Timor Regency
Get PDFPurpose: This study aims to determine the Mutual Interest Pattern in the Relationship between the Regional Government and the Regional People's Representative Council.
Approach/Methodology/Design: This study uses a qualitative method. Descriptive research is a type of research that aims to analyze in depth a phenomenon. This study describes more about a phenomenon and does not carry out calculations using statistical figures.
Findings: The results show that the dimension of mutual interest is influenced by weak respect, trust between the two institutions, strong domination by political parties by ignoring the interests of society. As a result, the final result in the form of an outcome, namely increasing the welfare of the community, is considered to have not been successful
Strategy for Improving Environmental Quality through Waste Management in the Bajoe Coastal Area Community, Bone Regency
Get PDFThis study aims to discuss the evaluation of waste management in the coastal area of Bajoe, Kab. Bone. The approach used is a qualitative and quantitative approach from a methodological aspect, and an environmental, economic, religious approach from a scientific aspect. The research design used is an evaluative research design. The required data were collected by observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data that has been collected was analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that First, the results of the assessment of waste observers really want to make a change to the people in the Bajoe coastal area by providing assistance in waste management. The Bajo people are said to have minimal attention to waste management even if they are given counseling on waste management. Second, the participation of the Bajoe coastal community in waste management based on Community-Based Resource Management (CBRM) theory. Third, the making of the module through the input-process-output stage through several stages in terms of revising the adjustment of environmental conditions in the Bajoe coastal area which must be harmonized because during the observation and distribution of questionnaires the researcher only focused on identifying types of waste and knowing how they manage waste. Revolutionizing Nursing Education: A Concept-Based Approach for Enhanced Learning
Get PDFNursing education is constantly evolving to meet the demands of an ever-changing healthcare environment. One current approach that has gained popularity is the Concept-Based Approach (CBA). This paper aims to explore the development of an innovative CBA for teaching and learning in nursing. It will further outline the CBA curriculum development process and provide examples of how this approach can be effectively incorporated into the classroom. The research significance of the study lies in its focus on exploring the potential benefits that may gain by shifting from the traditional approach of teaching and learning in nursing to the CBA. The study will demonstrate the positive impact that a CBA can have on student learning outcomes, teaching effectiveness, and overall satisfaction with the nursing education experience.

Breaking the Borders: Elizabeth Gaskell’s Travel, ‘French Life’ and its Spatial Intertextuality
Get PDFAccording to the nineteenth-century ideology of separate spheres, women were supposed to avoid the public sphere and to stay at home, as depicted in most artistic and literary representations. Even though much content in her travel writing represented by letters and the journal article ‘French Life’ is about daily living in ordinary foreign societies, I argue that Elizabeth Gaskell is treating some basic questions of human and social values such as class differences and gender distinctions. This paper emphasizes the significance of travel and travel-writing in Gaskell's personal and professional life, examining how her exposure to other cultures shapes her novels and positions her as a cross-cultural literary figure. Combining ESRI technology, I apply the old map (1864, Paris) to it and draw a GIS picture. The route is based on the journal article ‘French Life’ by Gaskell: by comparing it with the locations and landscapes mentioned in Charles Dickens’s The Tale of the Two Cities, I find there is only one overlapping place: Faubourg Saint-Germain. However, the narratives of the two writers about this same place are so different. Multiple layers of mobility are uncovered in ‘French Life’: starting with Gaskell's physical mobility in Paris and the Mohls' residence, followed by an exploration of her social activities within the salon setting as a British writer, and culminating in an analysis of Gaskell's professional development exemplified through her creation during her time with the French families
Language Assessment of the Literacy Level of Ethiopian EFL Instructors: A Focus on South West Ethiopian Public Universities
Get PDFPurpose: This study aimed to investigate Language Assessment literacy (LAL) level of EFL instructors who are teaching communicative English language courses in three South West Ethiopian public higher educational institutions.
Approach/Methodology/Design: The study employed a descriptive research design, which involves quantitative data gathering tool. Accordingly, a questionnaire was used to collect the appropriate data. The target population of the study was 42 Male and 9 female totally 51 instructors who were teaching Communicative English Language Skills courses in Jimma university, Wollega university and Mizan Tepi universities, and all of these instructors were chosen as samples of the study through comprehensive sampling technique
Results: For measuring the instructors’ Language assessment literacy level, an Assessment Literacy Test (ALT) consisting of 59 items with eight components was given for all 51 instructors. There score in assessment literacy test rests between minimum of 26 and maximum of 44.
Conclusions: Though their performance is average and low in some of the components of assessment literacy their overall performance is above average
Capecitabine, Oxaliplatin, and Irinotecan (XELOXIRI) as Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
Get PDFPurpose: This study describes the efficacy and safety of irinotecan and oxaliplatin in combination with capecitabine (XELOXIRI) as a neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) regimen for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC).
Methods: From January 2019 through December 2022, 68 LARC patients treated with XELOXIRI were enrolled in the study. XELOXIRI is administered in a three-week cycle consisting of oxaliplatin 70-110 mg/m2 IV for >120 min on day 1; irinotecan 120-160 mg/m2 IV for 90 min on day 1; and capecitabine 700-1100 mg/m2 orally twice daily for 14 days followed by 7 days off. Sixteen cases were treated with combined radiotherapy, including 8 with long-course radiotherapy and 8 with short-course radiotherapy. The efficacy was evaluated based on pelvic MRI (including TNM stage, CRM, and EMVI status), tumor downstaging rate (to ypT0-2N0M0), pCR rate, R0 resection rate, DFS, and OS, and the safety was assessed according to the incidence of adverse events.
Results: Sixty-six people had surgery; the R0 resection rate was 100%, and the rate of anal preservation was 97%. The tumor downstaging rate (to ypT0-2N0M0) in the entire group was 53.0%, and the pCR rate was 12.1%. In the XELOXIRI alone group (N = 47), the tumor downstaging rate was 55.3%, and the pCR rate was 12.8%. In the group receiving radiotherapy (N = 16), the tumor downstaging rate was 56.3%, and the pCR rate was 12.5%. In the whole group, the 3-year DFS was 89.0%, and the 3-year survival rate was 98.5%. The 3-year DFS of the XELOXIRI and XELOXIRI + RT groups was 89.9% and 87.2%, respectively. The most frequent grade 3–4 preoperative toxic reactions were neutropenia (8.8%), diarrhea (4.4%), and anemia (2.9%). All adverse events were tolerable.
Conclusions: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with XELOXIRI appears to be feasible and efficacious for patients with LARC. Although neoadjuvant XELOXIRI alone did not yield our expected pCR rate as NAC for LARC, tumor downstaging, R0 resection, sphincter preservation, local recurrence rate, 3-year DFS, OS, and safety were all satisfactory
The Rise of Korean Sci-Fi: A Critique of the Development of Films and Web Series in South Korea and America
Get PDFThis study delves into the unique qualities that make Korean SF stand out and explores the shortcomings of American productions. By examining the complex themes, stunning visuals, and intricate narratives of selected Korean SF films and web series, this study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the genre’s current state. My study also highlights the need for a re-evaluation of the traditional formulaic approach to American science fiction and a renewed focus on creative storytelling and thought-provoking concepts. Therefore, through this paper I tried to critically analyze Korean Science Fiction (SF) films and web series from the last decade like Hellbound (2021), Monstrous (2022), Kingdom (2019), Train to Busan (2016), The Host (2006) to keep the study specifically contemporary and relevant, examining their superior plots and how they differ from Western SF films and Web Series. A comparative study is conducted between films and web series in South Korea and America, while trying to answer certain questions linked with the success of South Korean SF films and web series regarding their declining stage of American SF. Moreover, the analysis offers insights into gender and sexuality issues and the influence of neoliberalism in Korean SF. The importance of cultural specificity and originality in SF storytelling is also taken into consideration, adding valuable contribution to the field of SF studies. I’ve based my paper on theories like the reception theory, which allows me to analyze how the audience interprets and engages with literary and media texts which eventually leads me to study reasons behind the success of Korean SF. I’ve also considered the Narrative theory, the Genre theory along with certain generic understandings of cultural studies and postmodernism. The paper uses thematic and cultural analytical processes as its methodology for which the focus throughout, remains highly ideological and at the same time, tries to consider how a story relates to the society and culture from where it originates
Experiencing the ‘Other’: An Ethical and Ontological Inquiry into the Characterization of Yeong-hye in Han Kang’s The Vegetarian
Get PDFAny discussion on the concept of ‘difference’ entails within itself the understanding of the subject’s existence in the world through his experience of the ‘other’. What branches out as a result of this encounter is a myriad of possible experiences through which one tries to apprehend the world in which they live. Han Kang’s The Vegetarian, published in Korea in 2007, is in her own words, an attempt to contemplate the ‘spectrum’ that is humanity. To do so, the author delves into a deeper inquiry into the ontology of human existence as validated by the perspective of the other. The three-part novel, narrating the perspectives of three different people in their attempts to understand its principal character, Yeong-hye, provides a broader methodological framework for the author’s exegesis. This paper seeks to engage closely with these narratives to probe a further inquiry into the ethics of subjective expression and its consequent effect on the ‘other’.
Effect of Visceral Fat Index on Perioperative Efficacy of Laparoscopic Radical Resection for Colorectal Cancer
Get PDFPurpose: To investigate the effect of visceral fat index (VAI) on perioperative period after radical resection of colorectal cancer, and analyze the relationship between VAI and postoperative complications. At the same time, we also discussed whether the correlation between VAI and complications is superior to body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and other common body fat indicators.
Methods: From October 2021 to June 2022, 178 colorectal cancer patients in the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were collected. Various indexes of patients were obtained through preoperative physical examination and blood examination. VAI value was calculated by formula, because of the high triglyceride-waist-circumference phenotype (increased waist circumference and hypertriglyceridemia) and visceral fat index (Vai, assessed according to waist circumference, body mass index, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) , it is considered a cheap and effective marker for visceral (intra-abdominal) obesity and metabolic disorders. and then divided into groups according to dichotomy. Because the visceral index grade was divided into a total of 30 grades, according to grade, into the high VAI value group (VAI grade more than 15 grades) and the low VAI group (no more than 4 grades), with 89 patients in the high VAI group; There were 89 patients in the low VAI group. The relationship between VAI value and postoperative complications of patients was discussed by using statistical methods, and whether it was better than other body fat indexes was further analyzed.
Results: 178 patients met the inclusion criteria and were divided into 89 patients in the high VAI group and 89 patients in the low VAI group according to the dichotomy. In patients with high VAI value, the operation time was significantly prolonged (213.01 ± 63.67 vs 190.34 ± 68.69 p=0.02), and the tumor N stage was higher (p=0.04). The results of ROC curve revealed that the area under the curve of VAI value was larger than that of BMI, waist circumference, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein, suggesting that the value of VAI value was higher in diagnosis.
Conclusions: The increase of VAI can prolong the operation time of colorectal cancer patients undergoing radical surgery, affect the recovery of the body after surgery, and increase the risk of complications. At the same time, compared with BMI, waist circumference, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein, VAI has a better prediction effect on complications, which can be popularized in clinical work
The Identification of Gender Based Discriminations in the Post-Colonial Novels of the Representative Indian English Novelists : A Study of the Selected Indian English Novelists
No full textThe idea of gender based inequalities implies that in India, a gap in health, education, economy and political participation occurs between men and women. In India, gender based discrimination is a part and parcel of people’s life. Perhaps, due to this reason, The Global Gender Gap Report of 2013 ranks India high, on the inequality indices. Women have equal rights under the law to own property and receive equal inheritance rights, but in practice, women are at a disadvantage. However, this research paper aims to explore the issue with reference to the chronology of the Indian English Novels, authored by the Indian writers, who preferred English language as the medium of their literary creation. This paper tends to identify the gender based discriminations and their manner of execution in the novels of the prominent novelists of the post-independence era, from mid twentieth century to the present times. The most important reason to consider the post-independent Indian English novelists is that the case studies related to the issues began to intensify after the few decades of the independence. Recently, in the literary, social and electronic media realms the issues, like subjugation and exploitation of women are being openly discussed. Moreover, the present book too has given the place to these gender based issues among the other titles. Though, due to spatial constraints it was not possible to discuss all the writers, but the novels of the prominent Indian English novelist of international repute have been included in this paper.
