Powerline magnetic fields (MF) are ubiquitous in modern societies due to the generation, 
distribution, and use of domestic current. Thus, humans are exposed to them every day. MF can 
induce electric currents in our bodily tissues, and "activate" or "deactivate" some cells, like 
neurons. Neurons transmit sensory messages from our body to our brain, and motor messages 
from our brain to our muscles. For example, a MF can induce undesirable sensations or muscle 
contractions if sensory or motor neurons are activated.  
Therefore, to protect the general population and workers against adverse effects, several 
international organizations establish recommendations for MF exposures. Yet, to our 
knowledge, there is no experimental data about the impact and perception threshold of 
powerline MF on the peripheral nervous system (PNS). This research aims to explore the 
neurophysiological impacts of the human PNS stimulated by MF at powerline frequencies. It 
will contribute to refining international exposure recommendations.

My research oscillates between death education for health care professionals, educators, and 
students along the lifespan.  
 
Loss. Now what? 
When faced with a loss, people often wonder why they feel so much, even if no one has died. 
Similarly, when someone has died, they may struggle even after months. How do we make 
meaning out of loss and make sense of a disrupted life pathway? 
Loss is inevitable whether it happens on a sunny day or in the darkness of night. We can better 
understand and cope with grief by exploring various thanatological theories and how they apply 
to our own experiences. Finding language to describe the losses helps legitimize an effort to 
unstick ourselves to the spots we may be experiencing, feeling stuck in our grief.

Do We Understand Cultural Humility in Healthcare Delivery? 
Culturally humble healthcare providers reflect on their own personal values, 
acknowledge the lived experiences of their clients, and have an ongoing openness to continue to 
learn about their clients’ preferences and values in relation to their care-plan.  
My interest in this research is informed by my lived experiences as an immigrant patient 
and a care provider in the Canadian healthcare system. As a patient, I had observed that my 
values and preferences were overlooked, and care was delivered based on biomedical model 
without regard to how my lived experiences would affect my health outcomes. As a nurse, I 
noticed how colleagues struggle with establishing therapeutic relationships with clients from 
different cultures. I intend to conduct a qualitative descriptive study aimed at exploring how 
healthcare leaders understand the concept of cultural humility and how the concept is 
incorporated into strategic plans of healthcare organizations.

Patient satisfaction (PS) is a measure of how well (or not) healthcare service expectations are met. 
There are two sides (attributes) to PS. The “human” side, or patient-therapist relationship, and 
“system” side, or operational service delivery. Although PS is highly personal to individuals, it’s also a 
window into what’s needed to deliver good healthcare. 
Advanced physical-therapy practice (APP) spans 18 clinical areas across 14 countries worldwide, with 
practitioners undergoing specialist training and providing expert care to people with complex needs. 
Although APP is of international interest, we don’t fully understand how satisfied patients are with 
their care, and what drives (or inhibits) their satisfaction. Therefore, this research aims to investigate 
PS of APP internationally, exploring human and system attributes. 
This research will involve a systematic review of all relevant literature and hopes to present detailed 
information on how patients feel about APP services, to improve care, and shape future research.

Narrative production is the ability to describe a story or an event. Despite the seemingly 
simplicity of the task, narrative skills require complex language skills including organizing story 
elements in a coherent way (known as macrostructure) and using sophisticated linguistics 
devices to improve the clarity of the story (known as microstructure). Given that narrative skills 
support language development and academic success, improving the macrostructure and 
microstructure components in narrative would be beneficial for all children, especially children 
with Developmental Language Disorders and Learning disabilities. One promising approach – 
that could also be easily implemented in practice – is to use cues, namely in the form of 
questions to enhance oral narrative. Questions would serve as additional cues to highlight key 
aspects of the story. Therefore, in my study, I aim to investigate the effect of using tailored 
questions on the macrostructure and microstructure of narratives produced by children.

Title: The Grass Isn’t Always Greener: The Relationship Between Perspective-Taking 
and Attitudes Toward Dating Violence  
 
Once upon a time, the search for love involved long walks on the beach, chance 
encounters over lattes, and awkward blind dates - but in 2023, it’s all about swiping on 
dating apps faster than you can say “ghosted”. While social media has transformed the 
way we connect, it has also generated a disturbing trend: rising online forms of dating 
violence. In fact, a staggering 75% of individuals using dating apps have reported 
experiencing some form of abuse while searching for a physical or romantic connection. 
My research explores the sociocultural complexities that fuel the perpetuation of dating violence 
and is one of the first to investigate perspective-taking and its potential to prevent harmful 
behaviours. It’s time we shed light on the harsh realities of dating violence, especially in 
a world where catfishing is more common than catching feelings. Let's swipe right on 
safety and left on abusive behaviour.

Migraine is both common and costly in the general population, affecting over 2.7 million 
Canadians and costing individual patients over $23,000 annually. Migraine sufferers also 
experience impairments in quality of life, and brain structure and function compared to healthy 
people. While migraine medications exist, some patients experience insufficient relief or 
unpleasant side effects, fueling a need for alternative non-pharmaceutical interventions.  
Studies show meditation can reduce headache days in migraine patients; however, a comparison 
of treatment responders (patients experiencing ≥ 50% reduction in headache days) to non-
responders has not been done. Therefore, my research will use neuroimaging techniques to 
examine whether treatment response to meditation can reduce migraine symptoms and restore 
normal brain structure and function in migraine patients up to a year later. 
If successful, my research will uncover brain mechanisms underlying treatment response, thus 
identifying potential targets for new migraine treatments and improving outcomes for millions of 
migraine patients.
