“To the Memory of George Pennington Jones M.D., who died April 8, 1892. Erected by his Friends & Fellow Worshippers.” The words of Jesus “Suffer the little children and forbid them not to come unto me: for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven (May 10:14) are most appropriate for the beloved doctor, George Pennington Jones (1845 or 1847 - 1892) who cared for many children during his medical career, 1870-1892. The second light also testifies to his caring and compassion. Dr. Jones was from an English family whose home was in London Township. For a time he taught in London. He attended McGill University, Trinity College, and Harvard University. He was the chair of Sanitary Science (1883 - 1887) and of Obstetrics and Disease of Children (1887 - 1982) at Western. Dr. Jones was a staff member of London General Hospital. Dr. Jones was an organist at St. James Westminster, at the Chapter House’s chapel, and at St. John’s. He directed a mixed adult choir and boy’s choir at St. John’s.https://ir.lib.uwo.ca/anglican_stainedglass/1018/thumbnail.jp

“To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Francis Edgar Lawson, 1861-1911 and Lorena Hodgkins his wife, 1861-1933. Donated by the Family. The left window was inspired by William Holman Hunt’s The Light of the World (1854) and is an allegory of Christ with a glowing lantern knocking on the door of the human heart (Rev. 3, 20). The right window depicts a woman spinning, which is traditionally associated with women’s work and activity. This is a memorial for Mrs. Lawson, who was one of the early leaders of the St. John’s Women’s Auxiliary of the Missionary Society of the Anglican Church in Canada. During WWI, she with Mrs. Green produced hospital shirts for the Women’s Guild. Frank Lawson was involved with the Lawson Company (printing) and was one of the earliest members of the London and Middlesex Historical Society (1904 - 1908). Mr. And Mrs. Lawson were the parents of Hon. Ray Lawson, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario (1946 – 52) (see The Lord is Shepherd window). Information from Trumpeting Our Stained Glass Windows, Elizabeth Spicer’s catalogue of the windows from the Church of St. John the Evangelist.https://ir.lib.uwo.ca/anglican_stainedglass/1028/thumbnail.jp
