India’s Role as a Determinant in Pakistan-US Relations (2005-2015)
The United States adopted a policy of de-hyphenation in its relations with India and Pakistan in the post-09/11 period which continued to be operational in the period 2005-2015. This policy apparently meant that the United States would deal each of the two South Asian adversaries, India and Pakistan. The main reason for this phenomenon was that the policy-makers in the US saw India as a heavy-weight to counter the rising economic, political and military power of China in Asia. Pakistan could not be fitted in this strategic calculus. The United States changed its previous position on Kashmir and instead of calling for resolving this issue according to the United Nations resolutions, it stressed on bilateral negotiations. Similarly, the United States endorsed Indian stance that Pakistan was backing terrorist outfits that perpetrated acts of terrorism in India. Strategic partnership between The US and India extended cooperation in civil nuclear technology, missile defense, space technology and defense production. No such cooperation could be extended to Pakistan. Permanent membership in the UN Security Council for India was endorsed despite Pakistan’s objections
Economic Growth, Environmental Efficiency, and Industrial Transfer Demonstration Zones of China: A Way Forward for CPEC
Environmental efficiency, industrial transfer demonstration zones, and carbon transfer networks can impact the quality of the environment. This paper examines the relationship between environmental efficiency, carbon transfer networks, and national industrial transfer demonstration zones tested by utilizing some prefectural-level Chinese cities’ panel data from 2003 to 2017 through the Different-in-Difference method as way forward for China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The results show that environmental efficiency improved with industrial transfer demonstration zones by boosting the ability to innovate, government’s expenditure on the environment, and regulatory frameworks for the environment. The findings reflect a significant increase in the GDP of the triennial industry while an insignificant decrease. Hence, to promote all-inclusive first-rate development, regional collaborative must be ensured during industrial transformation demonstration
Press-Government Relationship during War on Terror: A Comparative Analysis of the Editorials of Nawa-e-Waqt and Dawn (2001-2019)
This study is mainly an appraisal of print media of Pakistan on the subject of War on Terror. It is a retrospective analysis led by conducting content analysis of editorials of “Nawa-e-Waqt and Dawn”. The results vibrantly disclose that “Nawa-e-Waqt” contributed additional reportage to “War on terror” in relation to Dawn. As Nawa-e-Waqt more criticized the Government of Pakistan in its editorials regarding its policies in WoT as compare to Dawn. This retrospective analysis acquires its theoretical framework from Robert Entman’s theory of framing that argues the aspects of salient and Selection. He pronounces framing practice as to choice some observed reality and brand it further salient. He says more that media framing in a way they can be appraise, deduce, expresses, and kind something central and the approvals towards a certain objects subscribed. The foundation of Framing Theory is that the mass media emphases consideration on specific happenings and then spaces them within a particular meaning
Indo-Pak Media Approach towards Peace and War Journalism during the Policy Crisis: Analyzing the Coverage of Pulwama Attack and Balakot Air-Strike in daily Dawn and The Hindu
This study contently examines the media coverage of Pulwama attack and Balakot air strike in daily Dawn and The Hindu, wherein the total 162 news stories on both the selected issues were thoroughly analyzed in the broader perspective of peace journalism. Supporting the core theoretical assumptions of indexing theory [media follow the guidelines of elites] and policy-media interaction model [media tow the government’s policy line], the Indo-Pak media employ, to some extent, peace journalism, especially at the time of policy crisis. However, the study shows mixed results as the Indian newspaper, owing to prevailing political environment in India, was more inclined towards war journalism 38.8% as compare to the war-oriented 12.2% coverage in daily Dawn. On other hand, the findings indicate high level of tendency in daily Dawn i.e. 53.7% towards peace journalism, comparing with 23.8% peace-oriented coverage in daily The Hindu

Exploring Ideological Construction through COVID-19 Related Headlines in Selected Pakistani Newspapers
The present study explores ideological construction related to corona pandemic with the application of critical discourse analysis and socio-cognitive approach to depict the domination of political authorities through COVID-19 related headlines in selected Pakistani newspapers. This study investigates news discourse critically to observe how this particular type of discourse unveils implicit beliefs, achieve the power and practice hegemony in the society. The researchers have followed the qualitative approach and the news headlines of two English-language Pakistani newspapers; ‘Dawn’ and ‘The News’ have collected through purposive sampling technique. Critical Discourse Analysis (1998) and Triangular Socio-Cognitive approach of Van Dijk(2009) are applied to this study. The findings revealed that ideological construction through COVID-19 related headlines (de)emphasize our/their performance over corona crisis. Use of active constructions and instances with absence of nominalization imply that speakers of news headlines try to represent themselves the sovereign and supreme to manipulate the readers’ ideology and actions over corona pandemic as the biological issue of corona has been made politicized by the selected world leaders. Moreover, Ideology regarding COVID-19 is propagated by authorities to practice societal oppression and power abuse to manipulate the beliefs of the innocent masses. Upcoming researchers can use the data through COVID-19 related headlines in different time frame or can conduct the research as an extension of the present study. Furthermore, comparative study of newspapers and electronic media discourse through COVID-19 related headlines, speeches and interviews can be under taken for the application of the present framework in future
Investigating the Role of Energy Prices in Enhancing Inflation in Pakistan: Fresh Insight from Asymmetric ARDL Model
Inflation is a serious problem of poor countries in this modern world because the majority of people live below the poverty line. It becomes difficult for poor people to fulfill their basic needs with higher inflation rate. The main objective of this study to analyze the impact of energy prices on the inflation rate in Pakistan. For analysis purpose the study uses time series data for the period 1990-2020. Consumer Price Index (CPI) is used as the dependent variable while independent variables include pump diesel domestic prices, pump gasoline domestic prices, GDP per capita, real effective exchange rate, government expenditure and imports of goods and services. The study uses non-linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag model (NARDL) econometric technique for estimation purpose. The results show that pump diesel and gasoline prices have U-shaped Kuznets curve, while economic growth, real exchange rate and government expenditures have emerged as important contributors of inflation in Pakistan. This study suggests that government should take effective measures to decrease dependence on imported energy resources and should rely on renewable energy resources to tackle the rising deficit in balance of payments (BOP)
Effect of Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol [SIOP] Model on Eighth-Grade Students’ Academic Achievement in English
School education in Pakistan has allocated resources to upsurge English language learners (ELLs) academic achievement. But in spite of concerted efforts, students of English language specifically at elementary level continue to lag behind in their academic achievement. Additionally, English language teachers feel themselves unequipped to fulfill the linguistics and academic needs of these learners without relevant professional development training. The main objective of this quasi experimental pre-test post-test design study, therefore, was to analyze the effect of SIOP model on students’ achievement in English in comparison with students who were not taught using this model. All the students enrolled in grade 8th in elementary schools of district Lodhran served as study population. Two intact/pre-existing sections of grade 8th in two elementary schools were taken as study sample. One section with 32 students (experimental group) was taught using SIOP model while the other section with 40 students (control group) received instruction with conventional methods. The inferential analysis of pre-test post-test data exhibited statistically significant differences in experimental group students’ English achievement level who received instruction with SIOP. Findings of this study suggest that the use of SIOP model has positive effect on English language learners (ELLs) academic achievement as well as closing the English achievement gap. Finally, this study provides valuable implications for teachers, school administrators and policy makers to improve academic performance of English language learners
How Subjective Career Success of Public Sector Universities’ Teachers Is Affected by Protean Career Orientation?
The study explored the mediating effect of Perceived Employability (PE) on faculty members’ protean career orientation (PCO) and Career Success (CS). The study is exploratory in nature which aimed to ascertain the mediating relationship of perceived employability between protean career orientation and career success of faculty members working in public sector institutions of higher learning. The researchers tried to test protean career theory by developing a conceptual framework. Data were gained through self-administrated questionnaires from the faculty members working in Punjab’s Public Sector Universities. For the purpose of sampling: stratified sampling technique was applied for data collection. Data were obtained from 269 respondents’ for testing the theoretical model. Measurement model was analyzed by applying Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) for testing the hypothesis. For this purposed we used SMART-PLS Licensed version 3. The researchers detected a statistically significant mediating role of perceived employability between protean career orientation and subjective career success. Due to the scarcity of financial and time constraints we have collected data from only 12 universities of Punjab, Pakistan. However, the results can be generalized as all the public sector universities are governed by same governing body; named Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC)
