    How Sovereignty Travels

    No full text
This thesis explores how the Kickapoo nation challenges Western definitions of sovereignty and mobility by using settler-state legal frameworks to protect their indigenous nationhood. Their experience shows that indigenous sovereignty does not need validation by colonial standards but must be respected as sovereign equals. The Kickapoo offer a model for resisting the limitations of the international order and advancing indigenous rights on the world stage

Optimal U.S. Site Selection for Sodium-Ion Battery Manufacturing

    No full text
QuantumShield Technologies (QST) aims to identify the optimal U.S. location for its first large‑scale sodium‑ion battery manufacturing facility. Ten critical factors were selected based on literature reviews and stakeholder interviews including: raw materials and supply chain proximity, market proximity, labor and workforce, utilities and infrastructure, economic and policy incentives, regulatory and environmental constraints, safety and security, energy and sustainability metrics, competitor landscape, and land cost. Comprehensive secondary data was obtained from various authoritative sources and industry reports, then standardized using Z‑score transformations with directional adjustments. Stakeholders ranked each criterion by strategic importance, and these rankings were converted into quantitative weights that were applied to all fifty states. Michigan achieved the highest score which was driven by its established automotive manufacturing infrastructure and existing sodium‑ion battery presence. South Dakota ranked second because of its competitive labor costs, low land prices, and affordable utility rates. Tennessee placed third and benefited from robust economic and policy incentives and strategic market access within the “Battery Belt.” These findings guide QST’s site selection strategy and recommend follow‑up analyses to refine the final facility location

Donald Trump\u27s Digital Media Campaign: How Podcasts Shaped the Political Views of Young Men

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the increase in Donald Trump’s young male voters in the 2024 presidential election through his digital media campaign. Trump was a guest on over 15 podcasts and livestreams, almost exclusively hosted by men. This paper examines three podcasts to discover what techniques Trump used to appeal to male voters: Impaulsive with Logan Paul, This Past Weekend with Theo Von, and The Joe Rogan Experience. The demographic of young men has specific interests, fears, and challenges that affect the strategies politicians use to garner their support. The advents of social media and podcasting have allowed young men to find support online, but they have also created a dangerous far-right pipeline. The “manosphere” is a realm of the internet with rampant misogyny that may be driving the uptick in conservatism. Many of the podcasts Trump attended fall into or nearby the “manosphere,” which provides context for the anti-progressive nature of each podcast. In the interviews, Trump discusses common male interests such as sports, especially professional fighting, and digital media. He also had vulnerable conversations about addiction and his personal life, while showing genuine interest in the hosts’ lives. The hosts provided Trump with a large degree of freedom to direct the podcast and answer questions, which sometimes resulted in the spread of misinformation. Through a variety of tactics, Trump appealed to young men during podcasts that gathered tens of millions of views and provided a blueprint for future candidates to develop a relationship with young voters

A Republic Not Kept: The Administrative State as a Constitutional Break

    Get PDF
Conservatives often talk about the American people being governed by “unaccountable bureaucrats” who go against fundamental values of democracy and the Founding Fathers. While a common narrative, little evidence is given to reinforce these strong claims. This thesis works to investigate the accountability of the administrative state and its relationship to the philosophy of the Founding Fathers. Accountability is defined as administrative actions (regulations, notices, etc.) being in line with the original intent of the Congress that passed the action’s empowering statute. If the administrative state goes beyond the mere execution of these statutes and thereby the intent of the Congress, they are seen as unaccountable. Through their administrative overreach, this thesis will argue that the administrative state has co-opted the legislative power and combined it with its constitutionally granted executive powers. This consolidation of powers is explicitly contrary to the Founders’ vision and represents a breach of the constitutional order of separation of powers

Analyzing the medical discrimination against Haitians during the AIDS/HIV Crisis of the 1980s and 1990s

This thesis is looking at analyzing the discrimination that many of those of Haitian descent experienced during the 1980s and 1990s and how their lives were affected at this time. My thesis first provides an overview of the history of the AIDS crisis from the Caribbean, specifically Haiti to the United States, in New York. I then discuss the different support organizations and groups that followed up with those affected by the AIDS crisis who are of Haitian descent and how they were a crucial part of combating the entire disease and what that looked like. I explore how different groups were able to speak up for victims and families who didn’t have a voice. I further look at what some of the responses were by politicians and the public both about the crisis and the different support organizations. I found that although members of the LGTBQ community and those of Haitian descent within that group had both been targeted due to being seen as the cause of the spread of the AIDS epidemic, each had their own instances of discrimination that further affected their lifestyles. For the community of Haitian descent, they experienced more hardship due to racism and different stereotypes that were thrown around. Many of the support organizations that were able to help out the community were able to come to the consensus that they should still have a voice and have support and treatment options when dealing with the AIDS crisis. This thesis is able to help Afro-Latine groups understand different ways of survival through an impactful epidemic that affected many people

Consolidating the Carbon Trade: Policy Recommendations to Promote Standard Convergence Among the VCM, Article 6, and Regional Pricing Instruments

    Get PDF
Efforts to construct robust international carbon markets have repeatedly fallen short of their climate and sustainable development objectives. From the Clean Development Mechanism’s collapse under the weight of non-additional credits to the Voluntary Carbon Market’s recent legitimacy crisis, structural flaws and fragmented standards have undermined offsetting systems for more than two decades. Today, the emergence of the Paris Agreement\u27s Article 6 mechanisms, alongside initiatives like the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), offer a critical but fragile opportunity to rebuild market credibility. The proliferation of diverging standards across Article 6, voluntary markets, and regional carbon pricing instruments risks repeating past mistakes, threatening the environmental integrity of global emissions trading. This thesis argues that targeted policies promoting standard convergence are essential to safeguard the effectiveness of carbon markets and support climate finance at the scale required to meet international goals. It proposes the adoption of a methodology pipeline policy wherein the Article 6.4 Supervisory Body would prioritize ICVCM-approved methodologies for accreditation. Through a historical analysis of past regulatory failures, a review of emerging governance frameworks, and a critical evaluation of current proposals, this thesis demonstrates how strategic coordination across institutions could help overcome political and structural barriers, preventing a future race to the bottom and reinforcing the legitimacy of carbon markets as a tool for global climate mitigation

    Systematic Review of Immunohistochemistry Protocols

    Get PDF
Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is an essential technique in biological research that allows for the visualization and localization of proteins within tissue samples. This systematic review analyzes the most effective, efficient and reproducible protocols for IHC. It focuses on three critical steps: freezing, cryosectioning, and staining of skeletal muscle tissues in mice models. A total of 41, 44, and 48 articles on freezing, cryosectioning, and staining techniques, respectively, were analyzed, from reputable sources in biology like PubMed and Web of Science. Results showed the following. For freezing, the use of isopentane combined with liquid nitrogen appeared to be the best method, minimizing ice crystal formation and preserving tissue integrity. Cryosectioning results highlighted the importance of maintaining an ideal section thickness of 7-8 microns and using temperatures between -20°C and -25°C to ensure structural preservation and prevent tissue damage. Staining protocols revealed that primary antibodies such as SC-71 and BF-F3 were highly effective for visualizing myosin heavy chains, while Alexa Fluor 488 stood out as the optimal secondary antibody due to its high signal intensity and photostability. By synthesizing these findings, this review provides a comprehensive guide for researchers aiming to optimize IHC procedures for skeletal muscle studies where there has been no general consensus in the field. The insights gained from this analysis contribute to improving the reliability and reproducibility of IHC experiments, allowing for a deeper understanding of muscle function, disease mechanisms, and adaptive processes

Gender Disparities in Film Financing: An Analysis of Producer Gender Composition and Budget Allocation in Hollywood, 1960-2020

    No full text
In this paper, I examine gender disparities in Hollywood film financing between 1960-2020 using comprehensive regression analysis of production team’s gender composition and budget allocation. Through my analysis of over 5,600 films, I investigate how a production team\u27s gender composition affects access to financial resources, major studio partnerships, and overall financial performance in an industry that significantly influences cultural narratives and social values. Using econometric models, I analyze budget allocation patterns, studio relationships, and revenue generation across different team compositions while controlling for factors such as genre, time period, and studio status. The analysis considers multiple dimensions of film financing, from initial resource allocation to final financial performance, providing insight into both direct and indirect barriers faced by female producers. The findings reveal that female-led productions receive approximately 74.9% lower budgets than all-male production teams, or mixed-gender and they also demonstrate 72.9% lower revenue-to-budget ratios, suggesting that despite growing industry awareness of gender inequality through 2020, fundamental barriers remained in how Hollywood distributed its financial resources. This research contributes to our understanding of gender-based disparities in Hollywood and highlights the need for structural changes in how the industry allocates resources to those in behind-the-scenes roles

Russia’s Involvement in Mali: Strategic Opportunism

    Get PDF
This paper examines the motivations behind Russia’s involvement in Mali, focusing on the interests of both the Russian and Malian states. This analysis is complicated by the presence of Wagner Group, a semi-state security force whose ties to the Russian government have been officially denied until recently. The paper situates Russia’s engagement within a broader geopolitical context, highlighting pivotal events such as the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. It argues that Russia’s engagement in Mali is part of a strategic effort to counter international isolation, expand geopolitical influence, and promote a multipolar world order. Notably, this analysis seeks to avoid characterizing or implying that the future of the United States’ engagement in Africa should be viewed through the lens of great power competition, as this characterization risks oversimplifying the complexities on the ground and disregards the agency of local actors
