    Measurement of chromosomal instability and level of DNA damage in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of endometrial cancer patients

    Endometrial cancer is one of the most common invasive gynecologic malignancies in developed countries. The aim of this study was to evaluate chromosomal instability and level of DNA damage in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of newly diagnosed endometrial cancer patients in relation to health status (diagnosis), age, histological grade of cancer, residence, smoking, number of pregnancies, miscarriages, and abortions. The analyzed sample consisted of 60 individuals, 30 endometrial cancer patients with an average age of 64.37 ± 7.08, and 30 healthy control women with an average age of 60.23 ± 11.55. Chromosomal instability was evaluated by the cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay, and the level of DNA damage by the single-cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assay in PBMCs. The average frequencies of micronuclei (MNi), nucleoplasmic bridges (NPBs) as well as nuclear buds (NBUDs) were significantly higher in cancer patients compared to controls (P < .0005). There was no difference in the nuclear division index (NDI) among the analyzed samples. The comet assay showed that the patients had a significantly increased genetic damage index (GDI) compared with controls (P < .0005). Using linear regression analysis, we found that health status (diagnosis) had the strongest influence on the MN frequency as well as GDI (P < .0005). Our results indicated that there is a high level of genetic damage in both the level of DNA and the level of chromosomes in the PBMCs of newly diagnosed patients with endometrial cancer, where the frequency and level of damage were significantly affected by health status, grade of cancer, residence, number of pregnancies, miscarriages, and abortions.Publishe

    Overview and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the Improvement of Educational Process

    The application of Information Technology (IT) has facilitated the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) achievements in various aspects of modern life, including the field of education. This paper analyzes the aspects of AI application in education, focusing on its potential implementation in secondary schools. The research aims to improve the teaching process within high school education by applying the artificial intelligence model. This application of artificial intelligence improves both the efficiency and quality of teaching, leading to an enhancement in students’ competence levels. Schools that implement smart classrooms create a better image and greater competitiveness, thus becoming more attractive to a large number of quality students. Artificial intelligence can provide learning assistance, monitor student progress, and recommend learning models. It can be in the form of applications increasingly utilized on computers and smartphones, as well as learning materials available on the Internet. Based on the student’s profile, AI can assist teachers in performing routine tasks, such as grading tests, thus allowing the lecturer more time for interaction with the students. To gather the necessary data for analyzing the impact of AI on enhancing the teaching process, a survey was conducted among 400 students from various educational backgrounds in secondary vocational schools. Additionally, a number of articles and well-known leading journals, institutions, countries/regions were analyzed. The study identified works in which the authors explored the application of artificial intelligence. The analysis resulted in the development of a model for improving the teaching process using artificial intelligence and defining the specific steps that need to be taken in order to progress in achieving the priority goals.https://or.niscpr.res.in/index.php/JSI

    COMPARASION OF THE AROMA ACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN RAW SPIRITS OBTAINED FROM DIFFERENT APPLE VARIETIES

    Raw spirits were produced through distillation of apple wines obtained by fermentation of selected varieties of apples. Two types of apple wine were obtained using different apple varieties. In the first case, the wine was obtained from two types of apples: Red Elstar and Vilmuta. In the second case, the wine was obtained from mixture composed of four types of apples: Idared, Golden Delicious, Jonagold and Melrose. The aromatic profiles of obtained raw spirits were strongly influenced of desirable aromas of ethylesters which contribute to the flavour of the destillates with a pleasant fruity and flowery smell, indicative of the quality of the spirit. A headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) as the extraction technique and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was utilized for the determination of volatile compounds. It was shown that raw spirits obtained from mixed combination of Red Elstar and Vilmuta have more intense aroma than obtained from second mixture (Idared, Golden Delicious, Jonagold and Melrose). Ethyl nonanoate, ethyl 9-hexadecanoate, ethyl palmitate and 9,12-octadecanoic acid ethyl ester were detected only in raw spirits obtained from Red Elstar and Vilmuta. The aroma profile of the fractions obtained during the distillation was also investigated. The most intensive aroma was detected in the first fractions (heads). On the other side, the content of ethyl esters in middle fractions was lower than that in the first fractions.Publishe

    GRAMMATICALIZATION OF THE SUBORDINATOR UKOLIKO DURING THE 19TH CENTURY IN THE 19th CENTURY SERBIAN LEGAL TEXTS

    Рад је представљен на конференцији Језик, књижевност, процес 2023, одржаној на Филозофском факултету Универзитета у Нишу.According to the views on the grammaticalization of subordinators and dependent clauses in historical syntax, we follow the grammaticalization of conditional clauses introduced by the conjunction ukoliko during the 19th century in the 19th century Serbian legal texts. Modern grammar literature treats the conjunction ukoliko as a subordinator of conditional sentences that occurs in all functional styles, in three positions in the sentence. Relevant grammars of the 19th and early 20th centuries do not record this conjunction. The initial hypothesis is that the conditional clause with the conjunction ukoliko was grammaticalized during the 19th century. To verify this, we consulted administrative-legal texts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. We found that the original structure of this construction is a quantitative and proportional sentence introduced by the conjunction ukoliko (sometimes with the correlative utoliko). The resulting construction was related to the postposition. The process of grammaticalization, which lasted during the 19th century, included a reanalysis of conjunctions (ukoliko – utoliko), a change in the semantics of the entire clause, which eventually led to its free distribution. The theoretical implications of the work refer to the fact that the process of grammaticalization in historical syntax is not only observed at the level of grammaticalization of conjunctions, but the clause as a whole is taken into account, which also refers to the change in its semantics and its distribution.http://www.philologiamediana.com/index.php/phm/article/view/984Publishe

    THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS: DORIAN GRAY VERSUS THE PORTRAIT - A PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE OF A NARCISSISTIC KILLER

    Even though the theme of narcissism in The Picture of Dorian Gray is not foreign to literary criticism, the substantial part of that research focuses on the intertwining of it with other aspects of the novel. In such light, the criminal undertone of Dorian’s character can get lost and thus be in danger of being justified. This paper aims toward shedding some light on the dark side of a literary criminal, with an important accent on disregarding the eponymous hero’s sexuality, since it plays no significance in the analysis and, in such a manner, removes itself from the hyperproduction of papers centered around it. The methodological basis for this research is primarily found in J. Lacan and his Mirror Stage, as well as in forensic psychology and psychiatry. Taking into account contemporary scientific findings as well as the specific time and place the novel was created, this paper’s goal is to outline a psychological profile of a narcissistic criminal. In that way, the paper explores aspects of psychology and psychiatry in the novel that have been somewhat neglected in the main current of research.Publishe

    Relaxed Model Predictive Control of T-S Fuzzy Systems Via a New Switching-Type Homogeneous Polynomial Technique

    This paper proposes a novel approach to model predictive control (MPC) for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems by combining the homogeneous polynomial technique and a switching mechanism. Aiming at improving the overall system performance by dynamically switching between different controllers according to system dynamics changing, the proposed switching MPC (SMPC) scheme formulates a group of optimization problems to determine the optimal switching strategy and corresponding control actions. To be specific, the optimization problem is solved at each moment to generate a control sequence that optimizes the gain matrices to achieve the minimized performance index. Building upon the traditional MPC structure, the proposed SMPC method forms a new framework by reducing the conservatism of controller design in the solving process based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions via introducing the homogeneous polynomial method. As a result, the proposed SMPC method enhances the feasibility of controller solving, improves control performance and expands the domain of attraction by utilizing the switching mechanism to handle the system dynamics more freely. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are validated through different examples.Publishe

    The apse of St. Demetrios Church in Markova Sušica stands as a profound testament to the intricate interplay of symbolism within the 14th century Serbian architecture. The analysis delves into the specific brickwork patterns, decoding their symbolic meaning. Drawing from the Christian symbolism and theological insights from St. Gregory of Nyssa and St. Basil the Great, the article explores the use of geometric patterns to elevate the mind toward divine contemplation. The article also integrates these symbols into the broader theological context, referencing the Еconomy of Salvation and iconographic representations within the apse. Thus, it is concluded that the apse of St. Demetrios Church emerges as a powerful embodiment of the divine principle, intricately connected to the sacred landscape of Matka. Its rounded form, reminiscent of a womb, symbolizes the nurturing embrace of the Mother of God. The interplay of colors and symbols invites the faithful on a spiritual journey guided by the divine feminine principle, providing a comprehensive exploration of the architectural and symbolic aspects of this medieval Serbian masterpiece.Publishe

    BENEFICIAL PROPERTIES OF TRAMETES VERSICOLOR HETEROPOLYSACCHARIDES IN A RAT MODEL OF METABOLIC SYNDROME

    We aimed to examine the potentially beneficial effects of Trametes versicolor heteropolysaccharides (TVH) on redox balance in a rats with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Total of 40 Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: CTRL-healthy non-treated rats; MetS-non-treated rats; H-TV (high dose of TV), M-TV (medium dose of TV) and L-TV (low dose of TV)-rats with MetS treated with either 300, 200 or 100 mg/kg TVH per os for 4 weeks. Prooxidative parameters and parameters of the antioxidative defense system were determined spectrophotometrically. H-TV and M-TV significantly reduced the level of prooxidants and increased antioxidants activity. The obtained results demonstrated that the TVH may be considered a potentially useful agent for redox balance in MetS conditions.Publishe

    Intelligent Controllers Based on Adaptive Dynamic Programming

    Određivanje tačnog modela je veoma izazovan i dugotrajan posao u većini praktičnih slučajeva, što algoritme upravljanja koji su zasnovani na modelu čini neizvodljivim. Čak i ako se može dobiti aproksimirani model sistema, dinamička neodređenost, prouzrokovana neslaganjem aproksimacije i realnog sistema, će degradirati performanse upravljanja klasično projektovanih regulatora. Stoga je projektovanje inteligentnih regulatora vođenih podacima, koji su robusni, adaptivni i pouzdani u prisustvu razčičitih neodređenosti i nepoznate dinamike, od primarnog značaja. U ovoj tezi se najpre predlažu inteligentni regulatori zasnovani na ADP-u linearnih sistema. Kod klasičnih algoritama upravljanja zasnovanih na ADP-u, uobičajeno se pretpostavlja da su promenljive veličine stanja merljive. Međutim, ova pretpostavka je generalno restriktivna, jer u mnogim inženjerskim primenama često nedostaje potpuna informacija o stanju, i samo je izlaz dostupan za merenje. U uslovima nepoznate dinamike sistema i nemerljivih stanja, od velikog interesa je korišćenje tehnika upravljanja zasnovanih na ulazno/izlaznim merenjima, koje se još nazivaju i tehnike sa povratnom spregom po izlazu. Takođe, stabilnost dinamičkih sistema se postiže putem povratne sprege po izlazu, pri čemu se za rekonstrukciju nepoznatih veličina stanja koriste ulazna i izlazna merenja. Da bi se ispunili zahtevi perzistente pobude, potrebno je dodati neki istraživački šum upravljačkom ulazu. Primenom teorije planiranja eksperimenta, u tezi se primenjuje optimalni istraživački šum u vidu sume sinusoida, koji će omogućiti da izlaz sistema nosi maksimum informacije o sistemu. Time će biti skraćeno vreme učenja, odnosno ubrzan proces projektovanja inteligentnih regulatora. Implementacijom strategije upravljanja koji su pokrenuti događajima smanjuje se broj uključivanja predloženih inteligentnih regulatora, čime se štede energetski, računski i komunikacioni resursi. Predložena strategija upravljanja će unaprediti algoritme upravljanja tolerantne na otkaze, čime su poboljšane performanse sistema upravljanja u slučaju pojave otkaza. Praktična primenljivost predloženih inteligentnih regulatora je povećana činjenicom da se nelinearni sistemi mogu verno predstaviti linearnim modelima sa estimacijom dinamike u realnom vremenu. Projektovani regulatori su sposobni da upravljaju linearnim i nelinearnim sistemima sa potpuno nepoznatim matricama sistema, a eksponencijalna konvergencija se postiže dok je uslov perzistentne pobude zadovoljen. Pored teorijskih okvira, praktični aspekt dobijenih rezultata je verifikovan na komleksnim inženjerskim problemima, kao što je upravljanje hidrauličkog servo aktuatora i samobalansirajućeg robota. Validnost i efektivnost predloženih inteligentih regulatora zasnovanih na ADP-u se evaluira kroz intenzivne simulacije.Publishe
