    No full text
The amount of available information in the media grows continuously and, frequently, it does not have a basis in the scientific literature. In the area of food and nutrition, the contents are available on social media profiles, websites and blogs, which usually appoint some foods as “superfoods” – able of curing diseases or inhibiting their development –  or, on the other hand, classifying other foods as the cause of damage to health. Kefir-based products can be classified in the first category, being considered a “superfood” by the media. Thus, the aim of this study is to search for information about kefir in digital media and to evaluate such information based on scientific articles. The contents were collected from 50 websites or blogs, using Google as a search tool. The data obtained were divided into 25 positive categories and 5 negative categories. One made a comparison with the scientific literature. Analyzing the information about kefir, the majority has a scientific basis, however, digital media put the research data in a superficial way, without clear information to readers

Data Mining Generating Decision Trees to Alert System Against Death and Losses in Egg Production

    No full text
Climatic changes and high temperatures have been affecting animal production and the well-being of laying birds, with heat stress and high mortality rates, generating economic losses. Legacy databases can contain information to help model thermal comfort at climatic extremes. They can enable decision trees to be created through the use of data mining to prevent mortality and production losses. Thus, the objective of this study is to seek to develop decision trees, for application as an alert system, for the incidence of caloric stress in the production of layers. We used a database of three aviaries located in the city of Bastos-SP, collected in 2013. The data were organized in Excel® spreadsheets, and processed with the Weka® software with the J48 (C4.5) algorithm for mining of the data. The technique allowed the construction of decision trees that in the chosen sheds were classified with respectively 99.73%, 99.61%, and 98.71% of correct answers and with Kappa indexes equal to 0.9958, 0.9907 and 0.9663, which indicate that the three classifiers built are excellent. Thus, the proposed system, with the decision trees built, can serve as a basis for the construction of an alert system to be applied to the three warehouses simultaneously

The Influence of Globalization on National Education Policies in Nigeria

    No full text
Globalization is one of the most widely contested phenomena by scholars because of its complexity, elusive nature and attribution for its positive and negative outcomes. Historically, globalization and education are very interrelated. This paper will look at the influence of globalization on National Education Policies in Nigeria. The process of globalization began as early as the fourteenth century or at least with emergence of capitalism in the sixteenth century which resulted in the creation in Europe and USA of national education systems. This process continued and resulted in the transfer of these national education systems by colonial powers on other nations, and eventually to the establishment of the globalization institutions and instruments (WB, IMF, UNESCO, UNICEF). The paper will argue that Nigeria since the introduction of national system of education under colonialism, has always been a recipient of her education policies. The country has not been able to articulate/formulate an endogenous education policy. All opportunities (military to civilian, civilian to military) had always ended in the reproduction (expanding or contracting) of the existing policy. Nigerian education policy makers should try to domesticate globalization and related processes by purposefully interacting with globalization demands as policies are being formulated and implemented. The paper will be presented according to the following themes/sections. One will be conceptualizing globalization and coming up with explanations/definitions for a shared understanding of this complex concept. Two, will be the examination of all the education policies against adequacies and relevance to Nigeria’s needs. Three, will be recommendations on how to indigenize modern education policies

    No full text
The struggle for a fair distribution of land consolidated social movements and put pressure on the Brazilian government to carry out agrarian reform. The government allocated rural workers to the settlements and created programs to strengthen family farming. The global concern with the sustainability of the planet has led scholars to think that family farming is an alternative for the reduction of poverty and for the preservation of the environment. Based on this principle, the objective of this study was to analyze whether family farming used in the family units of the Joana Darc III settlement in Rondônia contributes to sustainable development. Materials and methods: The research is characterized as descriptive and a case study. We use an instrument developed by Anjos17, semi-structured, divided into 6 blocks: Identification of the profile of farmers; Characterization of the production unit; Characterization of crop production; Production commercialization; Financing and infrastructure and, Life conditions. The sample granted for accessibility was a group formed by 30 (26.3%) rural farmers from the Joana Darc III settlement who cultivate different crops, harvested from a population of 114 farmers. For the sample size, the systematic sampling formula presented by Barbetta26 was used. The research project considers the ethical aspect and is in accordance with CNS Resolution 196/96. Results: The results showed that the settlers received financing from Pronaf for investments in increasing production and technical assistance from EMATER. However, the production system adopted is traditional, with the use of pesticides in crops and the use of pesticides in animals and they practice burning to clean the land. This practice goes against the principles of clean agriculture, which aims to preserve the environment. It was also found that the settled farmers sell their products below the market price, reducing their profit margin. However, all were unanimous in ensuring that they would have better living conditions compared to the life before the settlement and believe in improvements in the future. Conclusions: It was rejected the hypothesis that family farming used in the family units of the Joana Darc III settlement in Rondônia contributes to sustainable development

    No full text
In a context marked by mandatory social distancing as a measure of fighting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA) library had to intensify offering their services remotely. Therefore, we analyzed how these services are disseminated through the website for the users with sensorial disabilities. We performed a documental analysis, evaluated the library’s website through the “Web for all movement” organization, and through direct observation of the services made available by the library’s website. Accessibility and communication problems for users with sensory disabilities included the inexistence of audio description for blind users and the interpretation of the Brazilian Sign Language by the avatar, which does not meet the informational necessities of deaf users. Given the observed facts, we found that UFMA’s library has to articulate improvements regarding the rules of communication accessibility aiming for information democratization, autonomy and promotion of social and educational inclusion of the disabled person

Entrepreneurship is an issue that has positioned itself as a key element for decision-making by governments, in their aspiration to generate new alternatives for progress. Its involvement in education has led international organizations to consider it within their action plans. In the case of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, its incorporation is in sight, especially in high school. Law 1014 of 2006 in Colombia supports the entrepreneurship class at schools in the country, intending to motivate processes that increase job opportunities and improve the quality of life of the society. However, according to this law, the responsibility of leading concrete actions in the classrooms falls on the teachers who, despite the lack of training in entrepreneurship at the university degrees, courageously assume this challenge. Considering  this situation, it is important to generate a discussion from the teachers' point of view in the framework of a qualitative investigation, through interviews and documentary analysis, configures an inquiry resulting from the approach to their experiences, concerns and needs for a quality teacher training, that assumes entrepreneurship based on the demands of the new millennium. Hence, this reflection article is inclined to present the tasks aimed at the implementation of entrepreneurship in high school, from the experience of the teachers and instructors of the National Learning Service, through an approach to the reality of some schools in the city of Bogota. As a result, it was possible to demonstrate their efforts, learn about their implementation style and uncover this immense field to explore within the lack of training offered by universities and institutions in charge of providing training to teachers and those who are being prepared to become ones

Proposal for Modular Precast Bulk Warehouse for Brazilian Agricultural Frontier Farms

    No full text
Brazil is one of the largest agribusiness producers in the world, however, Brazilian competitiveness is impaired when the agricultural product, at lower costs, reaches its destination at higher costs than global competitors due to the deficiency of the grain storage system and transport infrastructure. A viable alternative is the construction of a storage silo on the rural property, with low-cost prefabricated parts that can be transferred to other locations, with easy demobilization and assembly, if necessary. This paper has the objective to design a precast concrete silo with low weight, modular, structurally analyzed by the SAP 2000 V20 software, and presented the cost estimated at 15.6% of the cost of a conventional precast bulk silo, with the same storage capacity
