    No full text
This research aimed to develop a biomedical dynamometer capable of measuring the grip strength of the forepaws of laboratory mices to verify the posterior phase, the effect of modeled cerebral palsy in the animal. The equipment was developed using a stainless steel blade, two double strain gages, a signal conditioning circuit that was connected to a software for acquisition, processing and plotting of graphs and tables in Excel. The metal blade has a length of 18.5 cm, a width of 1.5 cm and a thickness of 2 mm and a double strain gage model pa-09-125ha-350-l8 from Excel Sensors (Brazil), was glued to each face. The two double strain gages were connected in a Wheatstone bridge, which produces an analog response due to mechanical deformation of the blade, with force applied by the mice. This response was submitted to a signal conditioning circuit developed with Arduino that modulated the input wave, generated 10000 times amplification and performed filtering 4th order using Butterworth filter. Finally, a software developed in Labview 2019 of National Instruments (USA) was used for acquisition, processing and plotting of graphs and tables in Excel of the measurements performed. In the next step, the dynamometer was calibrated for sequential loading of masses of 0, 15.48 g, 31.53 g, 46.88 g to 62.47 g and also for sequential unloading of the same masses. For this, the masses were hung on a nylon string that was attached to the free end of the metal sheet. The final test was to measure the response time of the dynamometer with a stopwatch, when hanging a mass of 62.47 g on the nylon thread that was cut abruptly with scissors. Some of the main results of the calibration were as follows: 15.48 g generated 3.70 V, 31.53 g generated 7.48 V and 62.47 g gene rated 14.80 V and the response time was 0.3 s. These answers show that the dynamometer can be used to measure the grip strength of mice and can be modified for use in humans

This article unpacks the concept of reverse innovation by exploring Tata motor’s version of the Nano, dubbed world’s cheapest car which was introduced in India. The paper explores the ideation process, product development and marketing strategies which were employed by the firm. The Nano was created with the Indian populace in mind thus it was a local production for local customers first before exporting to developed world, the product development of the Nano became known for its cost cutting features which influenced the promotion price at first but later increased due to the upgrading of the car .The car became famous for its cost cutting features such as three lug wheel nut, accessing the trunk from inside and one windscreen wiper among other features. The price was tagged at $2000, which was equivalent to a motorcycle. Some notable aspects which impelled the successes of Tata Nano include hiring competent and knowledgeable human resource, creating synergies with chain supply for easy distribution. However the firm faced challenges which range from compromised safety standards, causing the car to catch fire, extended waiting period for the vehicle and lastly the marketing strategy which was not sustainable and ultimately led to the sales reduction

    No full text
This research aimed to approach Plano Nacional de Formação de Professores da Educação Básica (PARFOR1) and the challenges faced by teacher-students in the Pedagogy Undergraduate Course, Class 3, Capitão Poço, Campus of Bragança - Federal University of Pará/Brazil. In synergy, the study evolves from the two main issues: what are the challenges faced by the teacher-student of the Pedagogy Undergraduate Course between the years 2015 and 2019? and, To what extent, did these challenges affect (or not) the academic education process? The research methodology was characterized by a qualitative approach involving observation and participatory research, with the application of a semi structured questionnaire, answered by six teacher-students from the studied class. Data analyses approached the content of the informants' narratives. Results revealed that the challenges faced, extended beyond the classroom context, methodological and evaluation processes handled by course professors, encompassing issues of family absence, financial limitations and political reverberations. The study evidenced situations involving employment bonds that greatly influenced academic and psychological performances of the teacher-students. As a conclusive evidence, we can affirm that challenges led to evasion of some teacher-students, but for the majority of the class, they became fuel for resilience and permanence until the end of the Course

Exploring University Students’ Perceptions of Plagiarism: A Focus Group Study

    No full text
Plagiarism is a matter of great concern to those who teach in higher education. The increase in technology has resulted in plagiarism becoming a source of anxiety for many students. Universities are continually being called upon to devote more time and resources to combating plagiarism. However, what of their understanding of students’ attitudes towards and understandings of plagiarism? It is critical to understand student perceptions towards plagiarism to develop approaches to combat plagiarism. This paper reports on a focus group study that generated qualitative data on students’ perceptions of plagiarism. Informal group discussions were held with first-year students to show how plagiarism appears from the undergraduate student's perspective. An interview schedule was developed to provide an overall direction for the discussion. The schedule followed a semi-structured, open-ended format to enable participants to set their agenda. The analysis revealed that students lack understanding of plagiarism, have certain assumptions about plagiarism, and have negative attitudes towards assigned tasks. This paper argues that there is merit in understanding students’ perspectives regarding plagiarism to develop successful strategies to promote academic integrity and prevent plagiarism. The paper concludes with a recommendation that lecturers at tertiary institutions need to teach explicitly plagiarism, how to avoid it, and referencing. &nbsp

Discourse Analysis On Physical Activity For People With Disabilities

    No full text
The subject discussed refers to the importance of physical activity for people with disabilities, both in physical and psychological aspects. The general objective of this work is to identify the relationship of the person with disability to the sport, as guaranteed by the Federal Constitution, giving the person with disability the right to the sport. As a specific objective, to analyze through journalistic texts what is the perception of the person with disability in face of his/her limitations. The methodology used will be an analytical approach, together with bibliographic and documentary research. The relevance for the study of this theme is the look at the person with disability, which is often forgotten by the public power, or pre-judged by the society that most of the times does not know the concept of disability, or when they come across it, they do not know how to act or how to treat a person with disability. Maybe because they don't even know how they think according to their current life condition, as to the difficulties, as to the accessibility, as to the expectations, as to the way they are seen or treated by society. This raises a question: How are people with disabilities treated by society and public authorities? Are their rights being respected? This answer can be traced back to a critical analysis of a person with disability's discourse

Bibliographic prospecting for dryeration process system evaluation in the face of the conventional grain drying

    No full text
The increase in grain production causes a significant increase in the demand for suitable places to receive and store these products for a more extended time and preserve the harvested grains' properties. The drying system in the storage units has become the bottleneck for grain reception. One solution to reduce bottlenecks in the reception of grain storage units is adopting the dry-aeration operation. This work aims to present a bibliographic review of grain drying and the drying system called dryeration, based on prospecting in textual and referential databases of good factors and impact. The use of the dryeration system allows to increase the flow in the reception of the storage units, which, compared with conventional drying methods, generates an increase of over 50% in the capacity of the dryer, reduces energy consumption by up to 30%, removing up to 2% additional grain moisture and provides grains less susceptible to cracking and breaking

    L. S. Vygotsky and His Theory as an Inspiration for Innovations in Education

    No full text
In recent years, preschool education has become an important topic in the Czech Republic. Since 1990, the system of preschool education has undergone a number of qualitative changes. A modern preschool curriculum has been created and is constantly being reviewed in line with the needs of society and educational policy objectives. One of the problems of the past decade concerns the high number of pupils with postponed compulsory attendance. This has become a challenge for both teachers and researchers. One of the steps that could help was the enactment of compulsory preschool education in 2017. More attention should therefore be given to systematic preparation of children for starting compulsory education on the basis of individualization in education. However, this requires teachers to use high-quality educational diagnostics in order to ensure children’s development with respect to their capabilities, interests and needs. A team of experts at the Faculty of Education at Palacký University is currently developing and validating an online application as an educational diagnostic instrument that should systematically monitor children’s progress as well as highlight potential problems and eliminate them in time. In the development of the instrument, the team builds on the current trends in preschool education, a number of educational theories and the work of renowned authors (Rogers, Piaget, Bandura, etc.) An interesting and inspiring view of the development and education of preschool children is presented by social constructivism and its main proponent Lev Semyonovich Vygotsky, whose ideas and legacy are outlined in the present study

High Brachial Artery Bifurcation Clinical finding in Cadaveric Specimen by Medical Students During Internship

    No full text
The high brachial artery bifurcation is an anatomical variation found in the arm segment. Although it does not present any alteration in the arterial blood functionality, it is considered a common spot for vascular lesions during surgical interventions that consist of the absence of anatomical knowledge. The research objective was to describe the high brachial artery bifurcation found in a cadaveric specimen from the anatomy laboratory as well as its main anatomoclinical aspects. Twenty-six upper limbs were investigated and dissected from the Universidade Brasil's Human Anatomy Laboratory, SP. These were formolized cadaveric specimens from both sexes. During upper limb dissection, arterial anatomical variations were observed in a single-arm segment. The variation was unilateral in the left hemisphere. The clinical findings were high brachial artery bifurcation and a rare case of the radial artery in the medial path, as well as an ulnar artery with a lateral path in the arm median third. It is clear that the understanding of anatomy and anatomical variations patterns is of utmost importance and a requirement for surgery, so surgeons need to be aware of clinical, anatomical, and arterial variations data, avoiding vascular lesions during the surgical interventions. Dissection is an important learning tool for students and resident doctors. It is suggested the use of dissection as a pedagogical resource to acquire skills in surgeries during internship and also to improve the anatomical variation cognition of upper limbs
