Nomina ignota: Dinosaurios, dinosauroides y otros animales del pasado que nunca existieron
Aunque desaparecieron hace 66 millones de años, los dinosaurios no avianos y otros grandes reptiles con los que convivieron son un reclamo habitual en las historias de ficción del cómic, cine, literatura u otros medios de expresión artística y/o entretenimiento. A menudo, sirven también de inspiración para introducir criaturas inexistentes cuya imagen y denominación parten de referentes conocidos. En el presente trabajo se analizan los diferentes métodos utilizados para bautizar a estas criaturas, así como las características y funciones que sus nombres pueden tener en los mundos de ficción, acuñando una nueva categoría para la nomenclatura científica, aplicable exclusivamente en el ámbito fantástico: nomen ignotum

The Dark Side of Synchrony: Investigating Affective Valence as a Moderator of the Relationship between Physiological Synchrony and Team Performance
Team processes are severely understudied, likely given their dynamic nature. Physiological synchrony (PS) may provide a solution, as PS provides a proximal, objective measure of team processes. PS is believed to develop through affect contagion, such that team members who catch each other’s emotions are more likely to physiologically synchronize. Extant research has found relationships between PS and performance; however, many questions remain regarding the nature, scope, and directionality of this relationship. I proposed that PS in the context of a positively valenced emotion would be beneficial to team performance, while PS characterized by a negatively valenced emotion would be detrimental.Longitudinal data were collected from 151 dyadic teams across three tasks in a bomb defusal simulation. Two types of PS – concurrent synchrony (CS) and max lagged synchrony (MLS) – were calculated using inter-beat interval data. Positive valence predicted CS, but not MLS, suggesting that while affect contagion indeed acts as a mechanism for the development of CS, different mechanisms may explain how MLS develops. Performance did not predict synchrony, but both CS and MLS predicted performance. Specifically, teams with higher CS were less likely to succeed and more likely to commit errors. Lastly, a significant interaction was found such that MLS in the context of a positively valenced state was beneficial for team success, indicating the importance of context when interpreting MLS. Practically, this research demonstrates the potential for PS as an efficient, predictive index of team performance that may unveil ideal timing for just-in-time interventions to meaningfully change the trajectory of team performance in high-stakes environments
Cross-linked Cellulose Ester/Linseed Oil Composites for Controlled Release Fertilizers
Food scarcity is an ever-present concern for a growing population but can be mitigated through innovations in agriculture. Fertilizers are required to produce a sufficient amount of food, and while they contain key nutrients for crop growth, these nutrients can leech into the surrounding environment. Controlled release fertilizers slow the release of nutrients, encasing the prills in a semi permeable coating. Current coatings are non-biodegradable, causing microplastic soil contamination, which is very difficult to remove. Cellulose esters offer a compelling alternative, with an ability to cross-link into thin films that can be applied as coatings. The cellulose esterification was completed using a polar substitution method, allowing much of the reaction to be done at room temperature, eliminating thermal degradation that occurs when using heat activation. Linseed oil serves as a solvent, with its characteristic of polymerizing through auto oxidation. These two components can create a completely biodegradable film that allows for controlled nutrient release without environmental contamination
Recruitment, Retention, and Attrition of Special Education Teachers at Title 1 Schools: How Administrators Perceive Their Role
The United States needs more special education teachers. Although this shortage affects many schools nationwide, the effects can be particularly harmful at Title 1 schools. Although there is a large body of literature on teacher attrition and retention, enlarging it focuses on teachers\u27 viewpoints. Through semi-structured interviews, this research examines the perceptions of school administrators at Title 1 schools about their role in the recruitment, attrition, and retention of special education teachers. The Relationship between Physical Activity and Cognitive Performance in African American Older Adults
The number of older adults in the United States is expected to increase in the years to come. As we age, cognitive performance is noted to decline. African American older adults are more likely than non-Hispanic Whites to experience cognitive impairment and dementia. It is known that physical activity is a modifiable risk factor for dementia. It is not known the extent to which physical activity engagement is related to cognitive performance in African American older adults, and which variables, if any, moderate this association. To answer this question, the authors examined the association between three intensities of physical activity (mild, moderate, and vigorous) at two levels per intensity (between-person and within-person) and four domains of cognitive performance (episodic memory, working memory, total mental status, and total cognition). Data was analyzed at five time points using ten years of data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). Results indicated that greater engagement in physical activity was associated with greater cognitive performance across a variety of domains. Younger age, higher years of education, and female gender moderated this association. Implications from this study indicate the effectiveness of engaging in a contextual factor of cognitive decline with regard to higher cognitive performance in minority older adults. Of note, an increase in physical activity engagement at different time points was associated with higher cognitive performance, indicating that the positive association between physical activity and cognition can be observed for individuals who initially do not engage in physical activity
