Impressions of Professional Women as a Function of Clothing Style and Job Title
The piirpose of the present study was to examine the relationship of Job Title (Sales Manager, Salesperson) with Clothing Style (Short Skirt, Long Skirt, Pants) on perceptions of power. Seventy-eight participants completed the Perception of Power scale. The Perception of Power scale is a questionnaire that contains six measures of interpersonal power. The subscales were also added for an overall measure of power. Included with the questionnaire was a picture of a female model in one of three styles of business suit, applying for one of two jobs, for a total of six conditions. Results of 2x3 ANOVAs revealed no significant main effects due to Style of Clothing, Job Title, or an interaction of the two for any measure of power. Men and older participants were significantly more likely than women or younger participants to attribute power to the stimulus model. Results support previous studies that the jacket of the businesswoman’s suit is the indicator of power
A Sampling of Athletes Attitudes Toward Alcohol and Drug Use in College and Professional Athletes
Athletes of today are looking for every advantage over the competition, often subjecting themselves to harmful drugs. The purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes of athletes concerning drug use. Subjects for the study were 71 athletes acquired from the local college, university and professional hockey team. A Modified Tricker/Cook Drug Attitude Survey was used to compare each athlete’s response to the other respondents by looking at each of the following categories, sport, country, ethnicity, age, gender, level of education and level of activity. The survey was administered and results were calculated. Results showed that athletes sport, country, ethnicity, age and level of activity were not good indicators of athlete’s attitudes towards drug use in this small of a sampling. In the current study results showed that females had a better attitude toward drugs than males. Furthermore, college athletes had a better attitude towards drug use than professional athletes did

Affective Development of Battered Women Subsequent to Leaving Abusive Partner
The present study consisted of semi-structured interviews of formerly battered women who have been out of the relationship for at least one year. The interviews focused on the women’s narratives concerning their experience leaving the relationship and were coded for affect using an Emotional Adjective Checklist. A total of 10 women were recruited from the campus of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. While each story was unique, a pattern did emerge whereby the women expressed feelings of fear and relief, followed by depression, numbness, and resolve to survive. Long term emotional consequences of the abuse that persisted included fear/anxiety, anger, and loneliness, most often associated with joint parenting after leaving a spouse. While the process was tumultuous at times, the women also described recuperative emotional moments which lead to healing
Through the eyes of parents, children, and a coach : a fourteen-year participant-observer investigation of youth soccer
The interactions taking place between parents, children and coaches are recounted in this participant-observer investigation of American youth soccer. The study forming the basis of this book took place in the context of the recreational and competitive club soccer settings over a fourteen-year period in which the author served as a head coach-observer for twelve years and as a parent-observer for two. Questions and comments are provided for parents and coaches that will assist them in understanding the dynamics existing in the youth sport setting and in dealing with the inevitable conflict that will confront them. Enhancement of the Three-Dimensional Seismic Method Through the use of Well Control and Seismic-Modeling Techniques in the Resolution of Fourth-Order Depositional Sequences within the Grayburg Reservoir, Foster Field, Ector County, Texas; Part 1
The study area is located in sections 31 and 32 of T&PRR block 42, Township 2S, and sections 35,36,37 and 38 of T&PRR block 43, which is about 3 miles southwest of downtown Odessa. Pre-existing well data shows the Grayburg Formation can be divided into fourth-order shallowing upward sequences, that are 60 to 130 ft (18.3 to 39.6 m) thick. Previous work has also shown the Grayburg dips very gently to the east. The spatial distribution of flow parameters important in reservoir characterization is controlled, in part, by fourth-order depositional sequences or sets of sequences forming the reservoir. Within the study area, the Grayburg Formation occurs at a depth of roughly 4000 feet, and is composed of dolomitic limestones with a sonic velocity of roughly 17,000 feet/second. Seismic modeling was used to investigate the conventional frequency band near (50 Hz) and bandwidth (20 to 75 Hz) necessary to image fourth-order sequences within the Grayburg Formation. The thickness resolution of the model is roughly 85 feet, which is within the range of thicknesses of the fourth-order sequences. The modeling indicates that thickening and thinning of thin bed sequences cause tuning effects that need to be understood when picking sequence boundaries. For thin beds, geometrical considerations appear to predominate, making acoustic differences in lithology of secondary importance. Conclusions from the modeling are: 1) 3-D seismic data need to be wavelet processed to zero phase, and relative amplitudes preserved, before comparison with modeling results to make interpretive stratigraphic decisions. 2) Modeling algorithms may not include real-earth effects, such as dispersion, source-generated noise, attenuation, etc. These differences provide an element of uncertainty in the comparison of a modeled response to real data
