Decisive Leaders: A Paradigm for Overcoming Paralysis in Organizations
Get PDFThe purpose of this project was to identify and understand the dynamics of decisive leadership in teams. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the purpose, rationale, and goals of the project, as well as an overview of the organizational contexts examined in this study. Chapter 2 explores the biblical and theological arguments for Godly wisdom and its implications for decisive leadership. Chapter 3 establishes a working taxonomy of common decision-making traps and presents a paradigm for practicing decisive leadership in organizations. Chapter 4 reports the findings that emerged from the interviews conducted using the qualitative survey instrument “Assessing Decision-Making Practices.” Chapter 5 evaluates the project’s goals, weaknesses, strengths, and concludes with the author’s reflections

Establishing a Definition of and Defense for Expository Preaching in the Book of Hebrews
Get PDFThe thesis of this work is that a definition for expository preaching can be established directly from an examination of NT examples of preaching, which will serve to strengthen a commitment to expositional sermons.
Chapter 1 establishes a working definition for expository preaching by synthesizing elements that proponents claim must be present to constitute authentic expository preaching. This definition functions to test examples of various NT sermons.
Chapter 2 examines Luke 4:16-21 and Acts 2:14-36 to reveal their use of OT texts in light of the adopted definition of expository preaching.
Chapter 3 develops the argument that the book of Hebrews is a complete sermon and examines the author’s exposition of Psalm 95:7-1. It is a perfect model of expository preaching.
Chapter 4 analyzes the results and offers a significant modification of the working definition of expository preaching. The conclusion is made that a definition for expository preaching can be derived solely from an examination of NT sermons and a defense can be established that this model for preaching should be exclusively followed today
A Strategic Plan for Family Ministry As a Response of Socio-Cultural Changes in South Korea
Get PDFThis thesis researches the recent cultural transition in Korean society, and suggests a strategic plan for family ministry as a response to the change. Chapter 1 is an introduction that surveys the literature about the relationship of Christianity and culture to propose the responsibility for Christians as biblical culture-makers. Chapter 2 studies the tendency of recent Korean culture, familism, and encourages Korean-church leaders to transform their ministry philosophy into family ministry. Chapter 3 exposes the original discipleship design, which the cooperation of parents and ministers accomplishes through 2 Timothy 3:14–15. Chapter 4 recommends a strategy plan, which includes six steps, to create a family ministry culture. Chapter 5 proposes twenty-three family ministry programs to help ministers contextualize them into a church’s ministry context. Chapter 6 offers an example of developing a family ministry curriculum and summarizes this work

The purpose of this project was to design and implement a biblical counseling ministry support program for SonRise Baptist Church that equips and encourages small group mentors to offer basic biblical counsel to those in need. Chapter 1 outlined the rationale and context of the project. Chapter 2 discussed the theological foundations of the project by exegeting 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12-16, and Romans 15:14 to biblically support the biblical counseling ministry support program. Chapter 3 discussed the major views of Christian integrationist counseling, Christian psychology, and transformational psychology and contrasted them with the Scriptural principles of biblical counseling. Chapter 4 gave a detailed outline of the implementation process, from planning to post-implementation. Chapter 5 evaluated the data collected and discussed the strengths, weaknesses, and things learned through the course of the project. The ultimate goal of the project was to train individuals to practice biblically-based mentorship, equipping the mentors to effectively minister to one another
Scriptural Storytelling: Using the Homiletic Theory of Edmund Clowney for Christ-Centered Preaching of Old Testament Narratives
Get PDFThis thesis presents a model for Christ-centered expository preaching based on the preaching theology of Edmund Clowney. The first chapter presents a summation of Clowney’s biblical theology, his regard for the biblical text in both its historical context and scope of God’s total revelation, and preaching of Christ throughout all of Scripture. The second chapter provides an analysis of Clowney’s homiletical writings in order to develop a hermeneutic template for preaching Old Testament narrative. The third chapter presents the application of the hermeneutic template to five of Clowney’s OT narrative sermons. The fourth chapter contains an original expository sermon of an OT narrative passage using the homiletic model created from the second chapter. The fifth chapter presents an evaluation of the effectiveness of the model, and assessment of its implications for preachers, teachers, discipleship programs, and other biblical literary genres

First Baptist Church Mount Washington is a wonderful church with a long, rich history of giving to missions and producing influential leaders within The Southern Baptist Convention. Although FBCMW is large in membership and has had a dynamic past, it is on the verge of renewal and the influencing factors are leadership and expository preaching.
This project aimed to evaluate church members’ understanding of expository preaching and leadership while also developing a strategic plan to allow FBCMW to implement these tools toward church renewal. Chapter 1 introduces the ministry context of FBCMW along with the rationale, purpose, goals, research methodologies, definition, and delimitations of the project. Chapter 2 provides the biblical and theological basis for expository preaching and leadership for church renewal. The chapter focuses on three primary text of scripture: John 21:17, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, and 1 Corinthians 1:18. Chapter 3 focuses on preaching as the leading mode of communication for church renewal, strong leadership as crucial to see a dying church change to a living church, and church renewal is envisioned by the church through the leader communicating a plan. Chapter 4 details the week-by-week project and project night process. Chapter 5 concludes with an evaluation of the project and focuses on the strengths, weakness, and reflections of the project

among Old Testament scholars. Several scholars believe that there are some reasonable
arguments to support the possibility of its historicity, as related in Genesis 11:1–9, while
some other scholars disagree.
This thesis starts with the assumption that the narrative of the Tower of Babel
happened in the context of the time of Noah and his three generations of descendants.
With that assumption, this thesis tried to analyze the possibility of the argument of the
historicity of the Tower of Babel based on the archaeological discoveries, ancient
sources, and the biblical argument, in particular, the toledot argument
