Alienation and educational setting
Studied 1,000 students drawn from various fields of study in 3 universities, using random stratified sampling procedures. Each S was administered a 65-item inventory designed to measure 4 aspects of alienation: ego identity, powerlessness, normlessness, and disorganization. It is concluded that alienation in the educational system is all-pervasive and intense, but that there is a growing recognition of student power. Thus a strange situation exists in which alienation and the sense of belonging balance each other.

Birth-order and need for achievement in tribals and non-tribals
Studied a sample of 464 students, randomly selected from various colleges at Ranchi University, which included 195 nontribal males, 107 nontribal females, 107 tribal males, and 55 tribal females. Each S was administered the Personal Data Schedule (ordinal birth position, age, sex, education, cultural background, and socioeconomic status) and the Hindi version of the Sentence Completion Test. Female Ss differed significantly in their achievement levels more than did males when tribal Ss were compared with nontribal. Findings suggest that the relationship between birth order and need for achievement is not simple and direct.
