The Development of U.S. Immigration History: Historical Factors, Formation Mechanisms, and Migrant Groups
Regional economic integration has emerged as a significant focus for China in the post-pandemic era, as the nation seeks to establish mutually beneficial relationships with external economies and promote national development. In this study, the entropy method is employed to construct an index system tailored specifically to the four provinces within the Yangtze River Delta region. This research aims to explore the advantages and challenges of regional economic integration in China by conducting a comparative analysis of the Yangtze River Delta. The study also evaluates the merits and drawbacks of different integration models, drawing on examples from developed countries. The ultimate goal of the research is to provide insights and recommendations for China\u27s regional economic integration, thus contributing to the country\u27s overall prosperity. The results revealed that factors such as economic downturns caused by the pandemic have led the United States to experience a resurgence of racism and xenophobia, reminiscent of historical periods of American nativism, marked by economic insecurity and rapid demographic changes due to mass immigration. However, unlike previous eras with unrestricted immigration, the U.S. has tightened border policies and reduced the number of immigrants, using violent methods to expel unauthorized immigrants, such as Mexican migrant workers, along with their children born in the U.S., forcing them to move to a country where they may not speak the language or understand the culture

To Translate or Not to Translate: The Case of Arabic and Foreign Shop Names in Saudi Arabia
The translatability of shop names constitutes a problem for translation students. To find out the status of shop name translation in Saudi Arabia, a sample of 271 shop names (clothing, accessories, beauty products, restaurants, cafes… etc.) was collected and analyzed to find out which shop names are translated, which ones are not, and which ones should be translated and to set some guidelines for shop-name translation. Results showed that 24% of the shops have pure Arabic names, 25% have international brand names (Starbucks, Burger King, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Monsoon, Zara, Sony); 39% have local English names ( أوبريشن فلافل Operation Falafel, Brand Center براند سنتر, بيبي شوب Baby Shop); and 12% mixed names (Arabic + foreign). Only 6.7% of all shop names are fully translated (العربية للعود Arabian Oud; الركن السويسري Swiss Corner; الشمس والرمال للرياضة Sun & Sand Sports; Seven Degree Café مقهى ٧ درجات); 3,3% are partially translated (Cotton Home قطن هوم; ماما بطاطا Mama Batata; JORI COFFEE الجوري كوفي) and 90% are transliterated using Arabic letters (Bershka بيرشكا , MANGO مانجو, كامايو Camaieu). Many shop names are transliterated, although they are translatable, are difficult to decode as the grapheme sequence does not fit the Arabic graphological system (Dr Nutrition دكتور نيوتريشن & Natural Touch تاتش ناتشرال). It was recommended that Franchised International brand names such as Debenhams & Samsung cannot be translated but transliterated. Some foreign shop names can be fully or partially translated rather than transliterated (Dr Nutrition< دكتور التغذية; Natural Touch< اللمسة الطبيعية; Red Sea Mall< مول البحر الأحمر). The Arabic version is for Arab shoppers who do not know English and the English version is for foreigners. Shop names containing café, chocolate, garden and others can be partially translated (Caribou Café مقهى كاريبو; Atayf Garden حديقة أطياف). French and Italian shop names should be transliterated according to their pronunciation in the source language, not in English (Parfois بارفواه, not بارفويس). The word order in compounds should be correct, and the vowels, diphthongs and consonants should be transcribed accurately. The transliteration should be consistent for all shop branches. Further recommendations are given
The Representation of Pragmatic Knowledge in Moroccan High School English Language Teaching (ELT) Textbooks
Studies in the domain of English language teaching reveal a significant disparity between pragmatic findings and the approaches employed in English language instruction (Ishihara & Cohen, 2010). Investigations into the effectiveness of textbooks for teaching communicative skills, mirroring real-life conversations, show that English Language Teaching (ELT) textbooks often lack clear and thorough explanations of English conversational dynamics (Berry, 2000; Burns, 1998; Cane, 1998; Grant & Starks, 2001). According to the available literature on EFL/ESL textbooks, speech acts, and other pragmatic elements are largely neglected in both quality and quantity (e.g., Vellenga, 2004; Salazar Campillo, 2007; Neddar, 2010). Therefore, this study examines how textbooks cultivate pragmatic competence and evaluates the pragmatic content in EFL textbooks used in Moroccan high schools from 2006-2007. It aims to assess the depth and quality of pragmatic information covered in these textbooks. In addition to concentrating on metapragmatic details, the study discusses register, illocutionary force, politeness, appropriateness, and usage, as well as how textbook authors present speech acts. However, the study findings reveal that the selected textbooks provide insufficient pragmatic information. This underscores the necessity of supplementing EFL textbooks with more authentic materials and ample meta-pragmatic information. It is also essential to consider pragmatics during the textbook design process and enhance teachers\u27 abilities to incorporate them into their classrooms
The Impact of Mobile Applications on Quran Education: A Survey of Student Performance and Satisfaction.
In the field of Quranic education, mobile applications have become cutting edge instruments that offer chances to improve instruction and successfully involve learners. With a thorough survey-based analysis, this study seeks to evaluate how mobile applications affect Quranic teaching. The research methodology comprised creating a structured questionnaire to collect information on a range of topics, such as application usage trends, efficacy evaluations, contributions to bettering education, perceived effects on students\u27 comprehension and retention of Quranic knowledge, improvement of student performance, and contrasts between traditional and mobile application-based learning approaches. Students enrolled in online university programs with an emphasis on Quranic education made up the population for this study. A sample size of 60 respondents provided insightful information. Descriptive statistics and inferential techniques were included in quantitative data analysis, which allowed for a detailed investigation of survey responses and the correlations between variables. The results show that respondents place a high value on mobile applications for improving Quranic education, and the usage patterns of these applications vary widely. Participants generally held favorable opinions about the usefulness of mobile applications in raising student achievement and comprehension of Quranic knowledge. Furthermore, it became evident that mobile application-based learning was preferred over conventional techniques. The study identifies opportunities for further research in this area and emphasizes the significance of using mobile technology to enhance Quranic instruction. In general, the study advances our understanding of how mobile applications fit into Quranic education and influences pedagogical strategies used in online learning environments
Determinants of Employee Performance: A Case of Indonesia\u27s Islamic Bank Merger
This study aims to determine the influence of change management, organizational culture, and transformational leadership on the performance of Bank Syariah Indonesia employees. This study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory research type. The data collection method uses questionnaire dissemination. The population used in this study was employees of Bank Syariah Indonesia, amounting to 100 people. Still, in the dissemination process, questionnaires were obtained again and then reduced to 78 questionnaires. The method to process data is SEM (Structural Equation Model), which uses AMOS software version 24.0 as a tool. Based on the results of the goodness of fit criteria analysis, after modification, indices obtained χ2: 334.059 with P≥0.05, CMIN / DF: 1.114 (≤2.00), RMSE: 0.038 (≤0.08), GFI: 0.805 (≥0.90), NFI: 0.874 (≥0.90), TLI: 0.978 (≥0.90), IFI: 0.985 (≥0.90). The goodness of fit criterion is in good condition, where after modification, indices can see a decrease in the value of chi-square offset by an increase in other criteria. This explains that modifying indices improves the goodness of fit criteria in good condition. The results of this research analysis include (1) change management has a significant influence on transformational leadership; (2) organizational culture has no influence on transformational leadership; (3) change management has a significant influence on employee performance; (4) organizational culture has a significant influence on employee performance; (5) Transformational leadership has no significant effect on employee performance; (6) transformational leadership has no mediating influence on change management and employee performance; (7) Transformational leadership has no mediating influence on organizational culture and employee performance
Communication Catalysts: How Personal Ties Enhance Supply Chain Efficiency
The role of communication is crucial for the longevity of businesses and contributes to the integration of the supply chain. While the significance of inter-organizational communication within this chain is widely acknowledged in the literature, there are still gaps in understanding the impact of personal ties among employees on these communications. This study specifically addresses a gap concerning the insufficient exploration of the role of personal ties outside the professional environment, with a particular focus on friendships among employees of partner companies within the supply chain and their influence on company-related communication processes. Through semi-structured interviews and employing the grounded theory method, this research identifies four emerging aspects of the processes, highlighting the facilitating role of personal ties in professional exchanges. The findings allow for the development of a preliminary theory on the interaction between personal social networks and inter-organizational communication within the supply chain, thereby paving the way for significant implications for future research
Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Cases During Pandemic: Experiences of Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) Officers in Cebu City
This study aimed to explore the life experiences of the Women and Children Desk (WCPD) handling Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) cases during the pandemic in Cebu City. Specifically, sought to address the following specific problems: the experiences of the informants in handling VAWC cases during the Covid-19 pandemic, addressing the problems encountered by the informants, and aspirations of the informants to improve the quality of service to the victims of VAWC. The phenomenological and qualitative approach in this study was utilized through interviews as the key process in the gathering of data. There were ten (10) selected police officers handling Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) during the Covid-19 pandemic in Cebu City. Five (5) of them were individually interviewed, while the other five (5) were included in the Focused Group Discussion (FGD). They were selected randomly but met the qualifications and have broad experience in the subject matter. The research locations are the top five (5) police stations in Cebu City with a high number of VAWC cases is Cebu City namely: Police Station (PS) 4- Mabolo; PS5- Carbon; PS7- Pardo; PS9- Guadalupe and PS10- Punta. A validated interview guide was aided by the voice recorder for the basis of transcribing the responses of the informants. Utilization of Colaizzi\u27s method, a phenomenological analysis procedure, was used to analyze the responses of the informants during the interview. For the experiences of the informants in handling VAWC cases in Cebu City during a pandemic, themes created were Satisfaction with Desired Result, Attained Productivity, and Embracing Limitations of Official Functions in addressing the problems encountered in handling (VAWC) cases during pandemic, the following themes created were: Intensified Implementation of Restrictions, Established Online Presence, and Maintaining Effective Collaboration and for the aspirations of the informants to improve the quality of service to the victims of VAWC, the following theme were created: New Normal Retooling and Equipment for Stabilization. The Philippine National Police (PNP)- Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) officers, as a specialized unit in enforcing laws related to the protection of women and children and regarded as the “quick-response-unit,” must maintain dynamic and standardized public service. It is suggested that the Performance Standards and Assessment Tool for police service addressing cases of violence against women be amended where the assessment tool should not be done as “Self-administered” to identify committed officers who are working diligently to end violence against women and children. The retooling of PNP-WCPD should not only cover policy-related attitudes, habits, and work ethics but should also investigate an array of services that can be extended during a crisis. The provision of additional facilities and personnel to attend VAWC cases will expedite the acquisition of relevant documents for filing legal actions and will be timely in the recent health crisis. This will enable the Department of Health to provide prompt intervention on the outbreak of mental health problems aggravated by the pandemic. PNP-WCPD and other linkages should develop process-based alternatives and act on the research of shared resources from the Covid-19 experiences because health protocols altered policing strategies and are not conducive to problem-oriented crime prevention and innovation
