Translation from Chinese to Arabic as a Cultural Bridge: A Comparative Exploratory Study of the Role of Translation in Enhancing the Objectives of Teaching Chinese in Saudi Arabia
This study aims to explore the relationship between teaching Chinese as an additional foreign language in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and enriching the translation movement from Chinese to Arabic. This exploration is based on the results of a field study that included a sample of parents of students learning Chinese. A mixed quantitative and qualitative research methodology was employed, where data were collected from students and their parents in two stages through questionnaires and statistical analysis using the SPSS program. The results indicated a very high level of interest among parents of students in the Chinese language and culture, with an arithmetic mean of 4.42 and a relative weight of 88.4%. Teaching Chinese significantly increased interest in Chinese literature and arts, supporting the Chinese-to-Arabic translation movement by 99.1% (simple linear regression: β = 0.991, p < 0.001). Additionally, translation from Chinese to Arabic was crucial in achieving the goals of Chinese language education in Saudi Arabia (mean = 4.44, relative weight = 88.8%). The results did not show statistically significant differences between participants\u27 responses based on gender, educational level, or age group, indicating equal interest among different segments of Saudi society in learning the Chinese language and culture and enhancing translation between the two languages. Based on these results, The study recommends increasing Chinese teaching hours, establishing specialized translation centers, encouraging publishers to translate Chinese works, organizing student exchange programs with Chinese schools, regularly hosting Chinese cultural events in Saudi Arabia, and providing additional educational materials on Chinese culture and history. These initiatives aim to improve Chinese language learning and deepen cultural and intellectual exchange between Saudi Arabia and China, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030’s goals of economic diversification and stronger international partnerships. The results of this study contribute valuable insights into the relationship between language learning and the enhancement of the translation movement, supporting the development of educational and cultural strategies that contribute to achieving sustainable cultural and economic exchange between Saudi Arabia and China
A Multimodal Analysis of The Movie Poster No more bets
The traditional single text format is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of the public. Nowadays, many industries gradually use multimodal advertisements, and short videos to attract viewers\u27 attention and to achieve commercial sales in order to promote new products. Posters are also one of the representatives of multimodal discourse to attract viewers’ attention to make the commercial sale. Multimodal analysis includes the analysis of text, images, video, audio, and other perspectives. The visual grammar proposed by Kress and Van Leeuwen has three major meanings: representational meaning, interpersonal meaning, and compositional meaning. Interpersonal meaning includes four aspects: contact, distance, modality, and perspective. This article takes the interpersonal meaning in visual grammar as the theoretical framework to make a detailed multimodal analysis of the poster of the recently popular movie No more bets
The Utility of Sight Translation Cognitive Teaching Methods in Its Teaching to B.A. Students: A Case Study in Qassim University - Saudi Arabia
The present study is an attempt to determine the effect of teaching sight translation to the students of the undergrade level at Qassim. The discussion and development of the phases and stages of teaching sight translation (ST) compared to other types of interpretation, such as simultaneous interpretation and consecutive interpretation, reveals its utility and effectiveness. The study claims the process of sight translation to be more effective than the other two types. The students call for the use of written material that they consider helpful and not distracting. This study used the descriptive method to fulfil its aims. There were about 14 male students in the 8th level of Qassim University in Saudi Arabia who participated in the study. The students were requested to answer questionnaire questions aimed at pointing out the difficulties and challenges they might face as students of the B.A. in English language and Translation while studying sight translation. After an examination, the students of Qassim University were asked to express their opinion on a sight translation text of 200 words. The results show that the Saudi dialect has an impact on the output. However, the majority conducted the test with high training skills. Some exercises proved that focusing on personal capabilities such as the tone, the speed of the speaker, and the emotions helps develop the teaching of sight translation. These exercises also emphasize that sight translation must be taught parallelly with the other modes and types of interpreting, as sight makes the obvious link between a written text and the oral aspect and feature of the other types
A Study of the Translators’ Gender Awareness in To the Lighthouse from the Perspective of Corpus-assisted Critical Translation Study
Critical translation study draws upon descriptive translation studies and critical discourse analysis. It tends to uncover the influence of the translator’s ideology on the target text through selecting the source text, making comparison with the target text, and examining the translation methods. Meanwhile, the addition of corpus expands the methodology of critical translation study from qualitative study to the new trend fusing qualitative and quantitative studies. Thus, the examination of ideology embedded in the linguistic features of target texts can be statistically evidenced with different types of data with significant difference, including typical sentence patterns and micro-linguistic features. To this end, this study establishes a parallel corpus featuring one source text (i.e., To the Lighthouse) with multiple target texts (i.e., two Chinese translations). Notably, the source text is selected due to its representative status in the feminist study authored by Virginia Woolf, and its two Chinese translations are selected due to their popularity in China, translated by Qu Shijing and Ma Ainong, respectively. Moreover, the personalized translations of gendered language in the source text are examined from both the macro and micro linguistic levels, thereby exploring the gender consciousness and its fluidity constructed by male and female translators in the two translations
Sociopragmatic and Pragmalinguistic Analysis of Speech Act of Apology by Saudi EFL Learners
The current study aims to examine the nature of apology strategies by Saudi EFL learners. The strategies are discussed in response to the social external factors of power and distance. The sample of the study consists of 100 Saudi male EFL learners from Onaizah Colleges, Qassim province. Samples responded to discourse completion task (DCT) which consists of six structured scenarios. Results shows that learners are influenced by the factors of social power and distance power. IFIDs were the most utilized strategies by participants who have low social power followed by explanation or Account, while the least used strategies were concern for the hearer. Explanation and account were the most utilized strategies by participants with high social power. Pragmatic transfer is spotted in the findings in which respondents used culture specific terms which are not understandable by English native speakers ENSs
Moroccan Youth Between Protest and Repression: Thematic Analysis of the Film “Raise Your Voice” by Nabil Ayouch
Hip-hop and rap music are frequently associated with youth culture. Nobody can deny that many people, particularly the youth, prefer Moroccan hip-hop and rap because they appeal to and represent their anger and dissatisfaction over their country. Nevertheless, some believe this music and culture genre lacks moral values as it uses street language (slang and vulgar terms) and sometimes addresses taboo subjects such as politics. Therefore, this article attempts to examine how hip-hop and rap genres of music are depicted as the outlet or a voice for the oppressed young generation living under severe and harsh socioeconomic situations via using a thematic film analysis of the Moroccan movie Raise Your Voice (2021) to recognise the dominant thematic patterns utilised to reveal the disappointment and the anger of Moroccan young generation over their country. The major interrelated themes generated by the film are gender inequality, religion, terrorism, and tyrannical society
Collaborative Governance in Prevention of Village Fund Corruption Crimes in Indonesia: A Case Study in Bandung Regency West Java Province
The phenomenon of village fund corruption in Indonesia, including in Bandung Regency, has become a serious issue that hampers development and community welfare. Even though there have been various efforts to overcome this problem, corrupt practices still occur in the management of village funds. This research aims to analyze the collaborative governance process and the supporting and inhibiting factors of collaborative governance in preventing village fund corruption in Bandung Regency, to further formulate a collaborative governance model for preventing village fund corruption. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, where primary and secondary research data were obtained through interviews, observation and documentation studies. The analysis techniques used through descriptive techniques include data reduction, data presentation. The research results are: 1) collaborative governance in preventing corruption in Bandung Regency involves various actors, but there is still minimal involvement from NGOs, the community and academics. Trust between actors is built through coordination, communication and information transparency. Actors\u27 commitment is built through information disclosure and independent monitoring. Shared understanding is built in line with consensus which emphasizes the importance of dialogue to reach agreement even if there are differences in interests. Short-term achievements in preventing corruption in village funds in Bandung Regency show positive achievements in the short term; 2) Supporting factors for collaborative governance to prevent corruption in village funds, namely in the initial condition aspect which includes the active role of all related parties, in the institutional design aspect which includes coordination between institutions, in the facilitative leadership aspect which is shown by the same vision between actors which is the foundation for strong collaboration. effective in preventing corruption. Inhibiting factors, namely the initial condition aspect, include an imbalance in the quality of human resources, low public understanding and participation in preventing corruption; aspects of institutional design include ineffective communication between related parties, sectoral egos, and lack of coordination between stakeholders; the facilitative leadership aspect includes a culture of corruption, personal interests, and lack of commitment and trust between parties; 3) Researchers formulated a collaborative governance model for preventing corruption in village funds which was developed from the Ansell and Gash (2007) model with the name "Quad-helix collective prevention of corruption," which is believed to be able to improve the collaboration process optimally thereby encouraging the realization of effectiveness, efficiency and transparency. and accountability in managing village funds, because it involves many sub-actors in the quad-helix. The novelty in the model is the need for involvement of academic actors and mass media in collaboration to prevent corruption in village funds.

Enhancing Patient Outcomes with AI: Early Detection of Esophageal Cancer in the USA
Esophageal cancer is deemed one of the most aggressive malignancies, with only a 20% five-year survival rate for patients diagnosed in advanced stages. It is approximated that more than 20,000 new cases are diagnosed each year in the United States, accounting for over 16,000 deaths annually. The main goal of this study was to develop and validate AI algorithms for the early detection of esophageal cancer using advanced machine learning techniques, and analyzing data from medical imaging, EHRs, and genomic profiles. The dataset used in this work on esophageal cancer is an aggregate of patient records from various reliable repositories, including but not limited to hospital EHRs, publicly available cancer registries, and specialized medical databases such as SEER. It included key variables of the demographic information: age, sex, and race; clinical history such as comorbidities, symptoms, and risk factors like GERD and Barrett\u27s esophagus; diagnostic data, which includes imaging results, histopathology, and biomarkers; and treatment outcome data, including surgical procedures, chemotherapy regimens, and survival rate. Among the selected algorithms are Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and XG-Boost. Random Forest and XG-Boost classifiers did extremely well, achieving high accuracy, perfect precision, recall, and an F1-score for each class, which ascertains how much better these models classify instances perfectly without mistakes. The integration of AI-driven early detection technologies has deep implications for the US healthcare system, especially in improving patient outcomes. Early detection of diseases through predictive modeling can lead to timely interventions that are often crucial in improving prognosis and treatment efficacy
Extra Luminal Migration of Fishbone to the Spleen: A Complication of Foreign Body Ingestion
The ingestion of foreign bodies, either accidentally or intentionally, is a common complaint in the emergency department. Most patients may present with symptoms of upper airway obstruction if ingested into the trachea, while others may present with abdominal pain due to a gastrointestinal obstruction. Although relatively uncommon, some patients may be completely asymptomatic and complain of complications of ingestion. In rare instances, the foreign body may migrate and get encapsulated within other organs such as the spleen, lung, and liver. This case follows a 74-year-old male complaining of abdominal pain with a computed tomography (CT) finding showing encapsulated fish bone within the spleen.
