Investigating the Role of Graphic Geometry in Enhancing the Spatial Ability of Engineering Students

    No full text
Graphical geometry is known as one of the basic subjects for improving spatial abilities of students at Kabul Polytechnic University and other engineering faculties. The main question is whether the methods of teaching graphic geometry with common methods at Kabul Polytechnic University meet all the demands that are included in the curriculum of various departments of this university? To answer this question, it is necessary to review and study basic studies on the factors of acquiring spatial abilities and the role of teaching the subject of graphic geometry as a main factor for learning and other inhibiting methods for increasing the spatial ability component. To verify the results of the research, two spatial ability tests were selected and, in these tests, pre-test and post-test were conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a control group in two disciplines with two different educational programs and the results of the tests were analysed. The results obtained from the tests on increasing spatial abilities show that the methods of teaching applied geometry have not significantly increased the spatial ability of students. In some cases, it has been tested with a significant reduction in both groups. One possible reason for these results can be attributed to the teaching of the subject of graphical geometry using conventional and classical methods at this university

Initiation and the construction of the masculine ethos in the negro-African novel: a comparative, psycho-sociological and anthropological study

    No full text
So marked is it by its roots in orality and ancestral traditions, Negro-African literature highlights acts of initiation, understanding them as vectors for the transmission of a socio-cultural heritage confronted with colonial and post-colonial realities and upheavals. Using a transdisciplinary approach combining the sociology of the text, anthropology, sociocriticism and postcolonial studies, this work examines how these rites - whether social (circumcision), religious (Koranic teaching) or educational (modern school) - shape a collective ethos while reflecting the existential and cultural tensions between traditionalism and modernity.                                                                                      By analysing two works from this literature: Camara Laye\u27s L\u27Enfant noir and Cheikh Hamidou Kane\u27s L\u27Aventure ambiguë, we show how initiation, far from being a simple rite of passage, embodies an identity, existential and political issue. In Laye\u27s case, the practices (circumcision, palavers) celebrate a cultural continuity that is transmissible and harmonious, nourished by both folk lyricism and residual orality. Kane, on the other hand, highlights the fractures of an initiation divided between mystical African spirituality and philosophical Western rationality. This initiation, embodied in the colonial school and the traditional school, a space for uprooting and identity metamorphosis, is intended as cultural resistance to post-colonial demands. The mechanisms governing this initiation reveal a dialectic between preservation and rupture: while Laye\u27s circumcision maintains the masculinity so deeply rooted in the Malinké community, Kane\u27s Samba Diallo dilemma demonstrates the alienation engendered by the oppositional hybridity between foreign educational models. Space emerges as a key initiatory actor, structuring power relations, post-colonial existential issues and gendered representations

    No full text
Writing is one of the most essential parts of a learner\u27s academic and professional journey. The clarity with writing skills can help a student to express themselves with ease. However, in the course of enhancing the flowability of English writing skills, there are several obstacles observed among students where the language is second in line after its native language. There is several literature found where the issue of recurring errors among students when developing writing skills has been pointed out. The study here has observed the lack of literature focusing on female students in India whose English writing skills consist of errors. In India, although English is highly spoken and written, its fluency in terms of academic requirements is subjected only to a few institutions. The late development of writing skills can lead to several difficulties that would cause an impact throughout a learner\u27s life. Further, in India, the female students, especially in rural areas, are often subjected to traditional norms that could affect their writing skills. To understand the perception of English writing skills among Indian female students and the factors that impact on their intention to learn, the study here has been conducted. With a structured questionnaire designed using secondary sources of literature, a total of 25 items measuring different aspects of writing skills have been provided to the students. Using purposive sampling, a total of 250 respondents are collected and analyzed using different statistical tools. The confidence level among the female students in their writing skills is found to be very low. The chi-square tests show significant association with demographics such as age group, area of residence, and marital status. It is interesting to note that the majority are not willing to add extra courses to evolve their current English writing skills. Going further into the understanding of the major factors contributing to this status, the PCA extracted six underlying factors, representing grammatical errors, peer influence, native impact, technical challenges, unwillingness, and intention. In the multiple linear regression conducted to estimate the impact of the five factors on intention to learn in a statistically significant model, an overall variance of 23.2% is reported. The most significant contributor being peer influence causing a positive impact. Native impact, technical challenges, and unwillingness have a negative impact, while grammatical errors interestingly have a positive impact. From this set of results, a number of implications for the future have been established.&nbsp

Capturing the Flow of Culture: A Case Study of the English Translations of Li Bai’s Changgan Xing

    No full text
Translation can be regarded as a communicative process involving three distinct objectives: the original author, the translator, and the reader of the translated text. Each objective situated in different times and spaces. In any communication process, the first and most essential step is to leave a strong impression on the target audience. In the process of translation, the best way to leave a good impression on the reader is by improving the “quality” of the translated text itself which is the core product of the process. Many translation theories are already presented in academic circles, including but clearly not limited to Pound’s theory of image poem translation, which regards translation with poems. The concept discussed in this paper also focuses but not limited to poems’ translation. Chinese traditional poetry in Tang dynasty is a gem of China’s rich and brilliant cultural legacy. Translating poetry in Tang dynasty into English helps foster a deeper understanding of China’s cultural traditions in the Western world and tell Chinese stories. Li Bai, one of the greatest poets of the Tang dynasty, authored “Changgan Xing”, one of his most representative works. A case study on the English translation of “Changgan Xing” illustrates the importance of “luminous details”, for not merely poems’ translation, but also other forms. This article proposes a practical approach to improving the “quality” of translations: emphasizing the translator’s subjectivity and adding “creative, luminous details” to the translated text. If these details demonstrate high-level translation skills, they can enhance the overall impression of the translation in the reader’s mind, contributing to more effective cultural interaction and communication

    No full text
The topic of divorce via modern communication methods has garnered significant attention from contemporary jurists. This refers to the dissolution of marriage through a phone call, an email, a text message, or other modern means. Such divorces have become common in today\u27s society, raising questions about their validity. This article aims to explore whether divorce can be effectively executed through these modern communication channels, relying on credible evidence. The study adopts an analytical approach, examining the legal rulings regarding this matter in juristic literature and the opinions of scholars, particularly contemporary ones. The research concludes with several key findings. 1- There is a disagreement among jurists regarding the necessity of witness testimony and documentation in divorce. The majority hold that it is not obligatory, although it is recommended, while some believe it is mandatory. The prevailing view supports the majority due to the strength of their evidence. 2- Jurists differ on the validity of divorce through these means, categorizing opinions into three main perspectives (a) Divorce is valid unconditionally, (b) Divorce through these methods is prohibited and (c) and Divorce through modern means is permissible under certain conditions, particularly when necessary. Upon examining the evidence for these perspectives, it appears that the third opinion is the most credible
