Embosi Semantic Roles: The Case of Direct and Indirect Objects
This analysis deals with the semantic roles of direct and indirect objects in Embosi, a Bantu language spoken in the northern part of the Republic of Congo. Downing and Locke\u27s (2006) integrated approach guides the work. The investigation, within Embosi grammar, reveals that direct objects attest the key thematic roles of affected, instrument, patient, phenomenon, and theme, while indirect objects systematically testify the roles of recipient and beneficiary. The work also proves the semantic ambiguity in direct objects within the roles of affected, patient and theme. The study looks at how syntax and semantics interact to show the double object construction using ditransitive verbs and the preposition object construction by moving the indirect object to the prepositional object. The analysis also proves the similarities between Embosi and Lingala languages within semantic roles. Finally, the work demonstrates how the context-dependent aspect plays a crucial role in interpreting and resolving the function of direct and indirect objects in Embosi
An Investigation into the Information-based Teaching Ability of English Teachers in Chinese Vocational Colleges from the Perspective of TPACK Theory
Grounded in the TPACK framework, this study examines the current state and influencing factors of information-based teaching ability among 176 English teachers from seven vocational colleges in Anhui Province through a questionnaire survey. Findings reveal that while teachers demonstrate strong content knowledge (CK) and pedagogical knowledge (PK), their instructional flexibility and exploration of diverse teaching styles remain limited. Although initial alignment between technological tools and instructional goals has been achieved, the deeper role of technology in reshaping teaching paradigms is underutilized. A lack of motivation for technological advancement is evident, with teachers having ≥16 years of experience lagging in technological knowledge (TK). Additionally, a significant gap exists in data-driven student learning analysis within pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). The weakest aspect is the reflective integration of TPACK, with a general trend of low-level homogeneity, indicating insufficient teacher collaboration and technology-sharing awareness. Notably, the enhancement of TPK significantly contributes to TPACK development, while self-efficacy emerges as a critical determinant. Based on these findings, the study proposes strategies to enhance information-based teaching ability, aiming to foster comprehensive improvement among vocational college English teachers
Beyond Orientalism? Evolving Political Correctness in Disney’s Live-Action Film Aladdin (2019)
Walt Disney’ animation film Aladdin (1992) has been beloved all over the world. However, the animated film has been harshly criticized by analysists for its cultural and racial prejudices and lack of consideration for gender equality. In 2019, the live-action version of Aladdin was released and Disney aimed to overcome the previous criticism based on some advice from the people who belong to a Middle East community. The purpose of this article is to conduct a comparative analysis of the 1992 animation version of Aladdin and the 2019 live-action version from the conceptual perspectives of Orientalism, feminism, and political correctness. This research argues that there exists a shift from Orientalist viewpoints and gender inequity embedded in the 1992 animated film to more politically correct perspectives that improved the storyline and empowered Princess Jasmine in the live-action version of Aladdin (2019). Finally, this article investigates to what extent the 2019 live-action version of Aladdin has overcome the cultural, racial, and gender stereotypes of the Middle East and the Middle Eastern people through the comparative examination of the two masterpieces produced by Walt Disney as a global media culture production
Between Persona and Shadow: A Feminist–Jungian Dissection of The Silence of the Lambs
By refracting modern anxieties through Jung’s Shadow and Persona archetypes and the process of individuation, this study reveals how The Silence of the Lambs fuses deep psychic fractures with rigid institutional constraints to conjure its unique form of monstrosity. A close reading of Buffalo Bill’s desperate pursuit of self, Hannibal Lecter’s cultivated menace, and Clarice Starling’s struggle for agency demonstrates that fragmented identity and eroded authenticity galvanize the film’s haunting power. Feminist critique further exposes how entrenched gender norms reshape traditional heroism and villainy under patriarchal pressures. Finally, formal analysis of lighting, framing, editing rhythms, and sound design shows how cinematic form externalizes internal collapse, opening fresh avenues for intersectional and media–technology studies of cinematic monstrosity
Adaptation Of First-Year Students And Possibilities For Ensuring It
The article analyses the factors influencing adaptation in the study process from a theoretical point of view and justifies the prerequisites for ensuring successful adaptation. The aim of the research is to investigate the problem areas of adaptation of first-year students in the study process and to provide ways of solving them. Analytical descriptive, quantitative and statistical research methods were applied. Using a quantitative research strategy (questionnaire survey), the researcher found out the factors influencing the adaptation of the first-year students of Lithuanian higher education institutions (n=144) in the study process, identified the causes of adaptation difficulties and, on the basis of the research participants\u27 assessments, envisaged the possibilities of management of the processes of ensuring the successful adaptation of first-year students. As the results of the study showed, almost a third of the participants had difficulties adapting to the study arrangements at the beginning of their studies. The highest mean scores indicate that the lack of precise instructions for assignments, the large number of assignments, studying too intensively in a modular system, and the excessive study load in lectures and preparation for exams are some of the external difficulties that first-year students encountered at the beginning of their studies. Meanwhile, the lack of the ability to rationalise the allocation of time for lectures, homework and leisure, as well as the inability to concentrate during lectures and the lack of motivation to study, were identified as some of the most important personal difficulties that first-year students encountered at the start of their higher education studies. According to the research participants, providing precise and clear instructions and consistent requirements for tasks, implementing and ensuring feedback on the tasks completed, organising reports with precise deadlines and proper workload distribution are some of the possible ways to ensure the successful adaptation of first year students to the study process. The results of the study will have a lasting value in the scientific debate in providing guidelines for the management of the successful adaptation of students in the first year of study at higher education institutions

Triboelectric Nanogenerators for Sustainable Environmental Remediation: A Comprehensive Review
This review highlights the extensive applications of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in environmental remediation, such as water treatment, air purification, soil remediation, and waste management. TENGs harvest mechanical energy from ambient sources and convert it into electrical energy through the triboelectric effect, offering a sustainable solution to self-powered environmental systems. Recent advances in materials, particularly biopolymers and nanocomposites, have significantly enhanced energy conversion efficiency and eco-friendliness. Despite their promise, challenges such as material limitations, efficiency issues, and scalability remain. This review emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in overcoming these challenges and realizing the full potential of TENGs in addressing critical global environmental issues
Constructing Desire: Beauty, Love of Blackness and Black Constellations in The Bluest Eye
This paper examines The Bluest Eye as a critique of the ideological mechanisms that enforce white beauty standards and lead to the self-denial of Black identity. Through the experiences of Pecola Breedlove, Claudia MacTeer, and Pauline Breedlove, Morrison illustrates how dominant cultural narratives, particularly through mass media and literature, shape self-perception and enforce racialized hierarchies. The paper explores how Morrison historicizes the Black experience, analyzing the impact of Jim Crow laws, migration, and systemic exclusion on the construction of beauty and self-worth. Drawing on psychoanalytic and ideological critiques, this study argues that Morrison exposes the destructive effects of internalized racism and presents The Bluest Eye as an urgent call for Black solidarity and love of blackness. By engaging with theoretical perspectives on subject formation, ideology, and trauma, the paper discusses Morrison’s work within broader literary and cultural discourses on racial representation and self-identity
Unpacking Cultural and Linguistic Refusal Strategies in Jordanian EFL Discourse: A Conceptual Paper
Refusal strategies are ubiquitous linguistic tools employed in everyday communication. Understanding the application of these strategies is crucial for interpreting the reactions of those receiving the refusals. This study investigates the diverse refusal strategies Jordanian students utilize to explore the cultural and linguistic factors influencing their choices. Data will be collected through interviews and observations and analyzed using Beebe et al.’s (1990) framework. The anticipated results include the identification of the significant influence of linguistic and cultural factors on the forms of refusal strategies employed by the students. The study also expects to identify direct and indirect refusal strategies. Ultimately, this research will provide a foundation for future investigations into the syntactic and morphological processes underlying Jordanian students\u27 construction of refusal strategies in their interactions. A deeper understanding of these processes will contribute to a more nuanced comprehension of pragmatic communication within this cultural context
