ENG 140: Personal Perspective
I was assigned to teach an English language course to students in one of the science colleges. The designated book is:
Step Forward: Language for Everyday Life 4 by Barbara R. Denman.
The first half of the book is the part required to be taught to first-level students. The book contains twelve units; the second half will be taught as a second English course to students in that college. Students have only two English courses in their program and this book is taught in both. This article will address some personal points I wrote while teaching the course in order to share them with my colleagues in the profession
Influencing Factors of Boredom Generation in Foreign Language Learning and Measures to Relieve It: A Perspective Paper
Learners\u27 emotions profoundly affect foreign language acquisition. According to the control value theory, foreign language learning boredom is a kind of negative emotion. Foreign language learning boredom can dampen learners\u27 interest in foreign language learning, reduce the efficiency of foreign language acquisition, and have a negative impact on foreign language learning. In view of this, the article aims to outline the influencing factors affecting the emergence of foreign language learning boredom and propose corresponding measures to alleviate it. It is hoped that this will reduce the negative impact of boredom on foreign language learning, improve the efficiency of foreign language learning, and reduce the resistance to foreign language learning. It is also used to refine foreign language classroom teaching, alleviate the negative impact of boredom in foreign language classrooms, and improve classroom efficiency
Translating Ayahs Aleudul in the Quranic Contexts: An Interdisciplinary Jurisprudential Linguistic Study
The current research paper aims to critically study translating Ayahs Aleudul العدول in the Quranic contexts from an interdisciplinary jurisprudential linguistic perspective. The findings of the study showed that Aleudul العدول in the Qur’anic context is a phenomenon that reoccurs in many ayahs. The researcher selected one of the many: the Quranic Arabic Aleudul العدول in Ayah 33 of Surat al-Ahzab to explain the phenomenon and discuss it in detail. The study also showed that the Quranic Arabic Aleudul العدول came in the Qur’anic context to reveal the importance of the meaning to be explained in the context to which it is assigned. The foremost of the problems encountered by translators of the Holy Quran was the dearth of most exegesis relating to this recurring phenomenon in the Holy Qur’an. This is because exegesis is founded on the segmentation of the ayahs rather than a single ayah to determine their denotations and memorize the rulings from them only once
Social Media Filtered Images as Carnivalesque Resistance
A great many may perceive social media filters or lenses as ridiculous and filtering selfies as an act of sheer vanity or blind imitation of glamorous social media influencers. However, from within this pervasive contemporary digital phenomenon, resistance to dominant representations or subversion of societal expectations can be discerned. In other words, filters and filtered self-images are by no means simply and exclusively reproductions of socially idealized beauty standards and pre-existing cultural norms. Some filtered representations often disrupt the effect of the bandwagon from within, using the very digital resources provided by social media and filter applications. In this article, we approach this rather unexplored kind of filtered images from Mikhail Bakhtin’s perspective, precisely employing his conception of the carnivalesque. Using this framework, the aim is to explore the potential subversiveness of certain playful social media filtered representations. Some social media filtered images while satiric and playful also constitute powerful statements with regards to identity politics and the current status quo
Statistical Analysis of Speaking Strategies among Non-Native English Speaking Graduate Students in the Masters Legal and Judicial Governance and Banking, Finance, and Insurance Programs: A Comparative Study within the Faculty of Legal, Social, and Economic Studies of Mohammedia
This study aims to investigate the speaking strategies used by non-native English-speaking Master\u27s students enrolled in the programs of Legal and Judicial Governance (L.J.G.) and Banking, Finance, and Insurance (B.F.I.) at the Faculty of Legal, Social, and Economic Studies of Mohammedia, Hassan II University of Casablanca, Morocco. The research employs an extensive questionnaire to analyze various aspects of speaking strategies employed by Master\u27s students, including language translation, communication priorities, error correction mechanisms, and sources of language input. Descriptive statistics are applied to analyze responses and provide insights into the prevalence and effectiveness of these speaking strategies. Additionally, a comparative analysis is conducted to juxtapose the strategies employed by both Master\u27s students. The findings underscore the diverse approaches adopted by Master\u27s students via a Likert scale to enhance their speaking proficiency within the specific academic disciplines of Legal and Judicial Governance (L.J.G.) and Banking, Finance, and Insurance (B.F.I.). Furthermore, the research illuminates the factors influencing the selection of speaking strategies among Master\u27s students. This study highlights the significance of its findings for language teaching and learning at the Master\u27s level within the Faculty of Legal, Social, and Economic Studies of Mohammedia. It discusses implications for professors aiming to facilitate language development among Master\u27s students and provides suggestions for future research in this field
Literary-social Interpretations of the ‘Stagnation’ Period in 20th Century Uzbek Literature
The period from the 1960s to the 1980s under Brezhnev is stamped in history, both Soviet and Uzbek, as “stagnation.” Particularly for Uzbekistan, this period is known for such stigmatized events as the “cotton” or “Uzbek” scandal – the investigation into Uzbek First Party Secretary Sharaf Rashidov (1917-1983) for misrepresenting cotton harvest results during his twenty-four-year tenure – and the Afghan war (1979-1989). The experience of striving to save the nation from the aggressive system and stereotypes of society, from the "values" of slavery and subordination, is reflected in some examples of 20th-century Uzbek literature. The most prominent figures in XX Century’s Uzbek literary history, Said Ahmad (1920-2007) in his novel Silence (Jimjitlik, 1988) and O‘tkir Hoshimov (1941-2013) in Lives Passed in Dream (Tushda kechgan umrlar, 1992) fell apart from the literature written as the Soviet Union describes the events of this period through a prism of moral monikers. Their understanding of their place in the world has always been through their connection to the nation. Social anxiety for them is inextricably linked to artistic anxiety and vice versa. Writers took it upon themselves to unmask the sins associated with this period, such as “two-facedness” (qiyofasizlik), bribery, fraud, cruelty, and bloodthirstiness (in reference to the Afghan war). The novels focusing on the “stagnation” period played an important role in transforming these moral criticisms of Soviet rule into criticisms of Soviet rule as colonial exploitation and serve as an attempt to unmask the horrors and misdeeds behind Soviet officialdom that have long gone unnoticed. In this paper, I will examine some of those moral constructions and how they framed the period in the minds of post-Soviet Uzbeks. The literary interpretations of the problems in stagnation will be analyzed in the historical, cultural, political and literary context. I hope this paper contributes to the research carried out on Central Asian studies, including Uzbek Literature Literary history, which is known very little worldwide
The Impact of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy in enhancing Psychological Resilience among basic education teachers in Oman: Longitudinal Study
The current study aimed to investigate the impact of Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy counseling program in enhancing the psychological resilience of basic education teachers in the Dhofar Region, south of the Sultanate of Oman. The experimental study sample consisted of (60) male teachers in cycle two of basic education in Dhofar Governorate with low psychological resilience scores. This sample was randomly divided into two equivalence groups: one experimental group and the other control group. Each group consisted of (30) male teachers. The counseling program was applied for the male teachers in the experimental group rather than the control group to develop psychological resilience with them. The researchers have used the psychological resilience scale (prepared by the researchers) and a counseling program based on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (prepared by the researchers). The results of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences at level (0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental and the control group in the post-test on the psychological resilience scale in favor of the experimental group. There are also statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental group in both the pre-test and post-test on the psychological resilience scale in favor of the post-test. This revealed the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in increasing the level of psychological resilience among male teachers as the scores of teachers rose significantly on the pre-test. In addition, the study has also concluded with finding non-statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group in both pre-test and follow-up tests on the psychological resilience scale. The results emphasise continuing mindfulness-based cognitive therapy\u27s effectiveness in increasing psychological resilience among male teachers. In the light of the results, it can be recommended by: Organizing workshops and open discussion forums between teachers, as this approach will significantly motivate social relations, reinforce confidence among teachers, and enhance occupational performance
Tala Tepe Jawzjan is the Forgotten Ancient Site of Afghanistan
The Golden Treasure of Bakhtar is the most valuable historical treasure of Afghanistan and one of the souvenirs of the era of Western Greece. In 1978, Victor Sarianidi, the famous Soviet archaeologist, and his team started their excavations on top of Talatepe, Jawzjan province. As a result of this research, they found the world\u27s biggest treasure after 2000 years of obscurity. The findings of this research show that this ancient and historical area is the legacy of the Western Greek and Kushan eras. Analyzes show that Afghanistan\u27s security situation was in a very critical state during the Soviet archaeologists\u27 research; Victor Sarianidi was able to, with this emergency, continue his research, which shows the commitment and good sense of an archaeologist. The purpose of this research is to investigate the current situation of the ancient and historical area of Talatpe, Jawzjan. The findings of this research show that atmospheric and climatic changes have caused the collapse of this historical area and if serious attention is not paid to it, we will witness the complete destruction of this historical area in the earliest time. It should be mentioned that the Tala Tepe area is located near the irrigated agricultural lands, and besides other problems of this area, it is also under the threat of flooding. In the research of this article, the methods of comparison, logical historical analysis, copying and field have been done
An Analysis of Legal Duty of Care for Social Platforms in Telecom Froud Matching Recommendations: A Perspective Paper
Based on the traditional four-element theory and the discussion of social platform duty, this paper analyzes the source of the obligation of recommending matching social platforms involved in telecommunication network fraud. Through case analysis, this paper analyzes whether the subjective fault and objective measures of social platform cases fully fulfill the duty of care. On the negation of the reasonable duty of care on the crime of refusing to fulfill the management obligation, subjective and objective methods are used to discuss whether the platform constitutes the crime of refusing to fulfill the management obligation. The result of the study has revealed the reasonable obligation of care involved in telecommunication network fraud involving recommending matching social platforms so as to urge the relevant departments to strictly supervise such platform cases and the platform to fully fulfill the duty of care in form and substance
Drug Consumption: Analyzing A Series of Urine Samples from Algiers Addicts by GC-MS Low Cost Derivatization Method
The complex and evolving landscape of drug addiction poses significant public health challenges in Algiers, Algeria. With growing concerns about drug addiction and its associated consequences, it becomes imperative to comprehensively understand drug consumption patterns among individuals grappling with addiction in this region. Drug addiction is a multifaceted issue influenced by various factors such as drug availability, sociodemographic characteristics, and personal choices. The prevalence of drug addiction continues to rise, warranting a thorough examination of the specific substances that dominate the local addiction landscape. A descriptive retrospective analytical study was conducted, analyzing 92 cases of drug consumption profiles among addicts in the Algerian province of Algiers. Urine samples collected between January 1, 2020, and October 15, 2022, from drug-addicted patients in Algiers, were examined using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The meticulous analysis of this diverse population revealed that THC and pregabalin are the two most frequently consumed substances, often used together in poly-drug combinations. Surprisingly, there is a notable prevalence of opioid consumption, especially within families, raising concerns about a potential opioid crisis in Algiers
