    Exploring Use of Closed-Loop Insulin Delivery System for Hospital-at Home: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials on Closed-Loop Insulin Delivery System in Type 2 Diabetes

    This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the use of closed-loop insulin delivery system (CLS), compared to regular insulin therapy, in controlling glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This is to explore the use of CLS for optimal glucose management in Hospital-at-Home (HaH). HaH is a programme that brings monitoring and treatment to patients houses, instead of requiring them to stay in the hospital. Patients under HaH are commonly treated for infections, with a large percentage with T2DM. Fluctuations of glucose during acute illness call for frequent monitoring and titration of insulin. CLS has proven efficacy in glucose management for Type 1 diabetes. However, there were no articles reporting the use of CLS in HaH. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) done for CLS in T2DM, to analyse its feasibility in HaH. RCTs that investigated adults >18 years old, diagnosed with T2DM, comparing CLS and regular insulin therapy. The search was performed on CINAHL, Embase and PubMed on 11 January 2023. A search was limited to 2012 to 2022, and language was not limited in the search. Two researchers independently screened for selection, extracted data, and appraised included articles. Of 398 articles identified from the 3 databases, 5 RCTs were selected and included in the review with a total sample size of 302 and an average age of 67.2 years. Studies were done in both hospitals and home. The quality of studies was high. Meta-analysis results show a significantly longer proportion of time within target glucose range in the intervention group, measuring a mean difference of 21.15 (95%CI, 17.33, 24.96). CLS showed efficacy in managing blood glucose in T2DM, regardless of their current medical conditions, pre-existing comorbidities, meals, or activity levels. There is potential CLS to be used for the remote monitoring and active titration of insulin for patients under HaH. However, as included studies had small sample sizes, more high quality RCTs, on larger sample sizes are warranted to ascertain its efficacy

    The Craft of Poetry: A Stylistic Study of Jamal Assadi\u27s Verse

    This article provides a detailed analysis of the stylistic features in thirteen selected poems by Professor Jamal Assadi . Through an examination of both phonetic and syntactic structures, the study identifies key elements such as external and internal rhythm, rhyme patterns, repetition, alliteration, and antithesis, which contribute to the musicality and flow of Assadi’s poetry. The article explores various grammatical elements, such as vocative expressions, imperatives, hyperbole, and techniques for emphasis, which amplify the emotional and expressive impact of the poems. Additionally, it emphasizes Assadi’s skillful incorporation of metaphor, simile, and symbolism, illustrating how these literary devices enrich his poetry with layers of meaning and nuance. The study also examines the interplay between classical Arabic poetic structures and contemporary themes, highlighting the harmony he achieves between tradition and modernity, this article offers valuable insights into what distinguishes Assadi’s poetic voice and contributes to the broader understanding of contemporary Arabic poetry

    The Impact of Linguistic Perspectives through Literature and Translation Studies: A Review Study

    This study examines the interplay between linguistic theories and their application in literary and translation studies. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research analyzes existing studies through coding and thematic analysis, classifying them based on the degree of integration observed among linguistics, literary, and translation. The results indicate a more pronounced influence of linguistic frameworks within translation studies than literary studies. This disparity can be attributed to the intrinsic link between translation and linguistic principles, necessitating translators\u27 engagement with grammar, syntax, semantics, context, and morphology. This suggests that the practical application of linguistic theories is more readily apparent in translation, where linguistic structures are actively manipulated and adapted. Further research is warranted to explore the potential impact of linguistic perspectives on diverse fields beyond literature and translation, such as management and medicine. This could involve investigating how linguistic analysis can inform communication strategies, cross-cultural understanding, and the interpretation of complex texts within these domains. Such interdisciplinary investigations could reveal valuable insights into the pervasive influence of language across various fields of study

    Relevance Theory as Applied in News Headlines Translation: Ensuring Effective Communication

    This paper investigates the application of Relevance Theory that was developed by cognitive scientists Dan Sperber and Deidre Wilson (1986) which suggests that human cognition is driven by the search for the most pertinent information and which is contextually appropriate for the audience. The research examines specific challenges in translating news headlines, which often give concise, culturally sensitive information that is awkward to convey effectively between languages. In order to be sure that headlines are not only accurate but also captivating and applicable for the intended audience, translators must navigate discrepancies in linguistic structure, cultural context, and audience expectations. This study enhances the effectiveness of cross-linguistic news transmission by providing translators with useful advice on handling these contextual and cognitive subtleties through the application of Relevance Theory. The results highlight how crucial cognitive factors and contextual flexibility are to overcome translation difficulties in the fast-paced news media environment, where clear and insightful communication is crucial. The study uses qualitative content analysis to investigate how translation tactics conform to the tenets of Relevance Theory. The study reveals that how implicature  ,explicature and inference integrate to transmit subtle messages and influence reader’s opinions

    Unpacking Transnational Feminism: A Journey Through Its Nuances and Challenges

    Transnational feminism offers a nuanced approach to understanding gender justice by examining the intersection of global power structures, race, class, and gender across national borders. It challenges the dominance of Western feminist discourses by highlighting the diverse experiences of women, particularly from the Global South, and critiques global systems like neoliberalism, imperialism, and patriarchy. Central to transnational feminism, its focus is on global solidarity and the recognition of interconnectedness of struggles for gender justice worldwide. It emphasizes the importance of addressing both local and global dynamics in feminist activism, ensuring that marginalized voices are heard. Relying on a qualitative explorative study through close examination of scholarly articles, this article will shed light on the complexities of transnational feminism. While the movement seeks to constantly balance the tension between fostering global solidarity and respecting local complexities as well as aims to dismantle hierarchies, it can sometimes reproduce the same power imbalances it critiques, particularly between feminists from the Global North and the Global South. The challenge of translating theoretical ideals into practice, especially in terms of equitable representation and collaboration across borders, adds further layers of complexity to transnational feminist work.&nbsp

    The Contextual Mindset of Worlds 1, 2 and 3 as Constructs in Scientific Knowledge Processing during Research Activities

    Real and imaginary boundaries of reality affect the contexts pertaining to the processing of knowledge. This study review examines how the integration of Worlds 1, 2, and 3 as constructs serves as a framework for analyzing the advancement of knowledge through research initiatives. In this regard, the empirical context and the physical environment where data is collected represent World 1, while the scientific and epistemic advancement of knowledge is World 2. Critical thought and metascience combined make World 3. This study review focused on how Worlds 1, 2, and 3 inspire a growth mindset toward constructive synergy, and an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the interplay between global and local levels of research. Each world holds significance, but only through their possible integration can a coherent and systematic approach to scientific research be achieved. The study review conducted analyzed literature on the constructs of Worlds 1, 2, and 3 from various disciplines that include social sciences, healthcare, and education. The focus was on the functions of collecting empirical data (World 1); analyzing data and developing conceptual frameworks, and theories (World 2); and meta-reflective and scientific self-evaluation (World 3). It also analyzed how adopting a growth versus a fixed mindset, the blending of global and local contexts, and the role of teamwork from different professions in dealing with advanced multifaceted research problems and projects influenced innovation in research. The findings of the study were noteworthy. The first finding was that World 1 focuses on activities that allow for empirical data collection in areas such as healthcare and education. The second finding was that World 2 incorporates empirical evidence into developing and analyzing scientific theories within a framework of systematic construction and analysis. The third finding was that World 3 encourages critical reflection that underpins the validity and usefulness of the research. The fourth finding was that a developed mindset fostered creativity, perseverance, and interdisciplinary collaboration, while a fixed mindset inhibited innovation and creativity. The last finding was essential in that the connection formed between global and local contexts enhanced the purpose of the research, while interprofessional approaches enabled holistic solutions to the problems. The study review demonstrates that fixed-mindset researchers do not necessarily embrace change, and are possibly averse to failure in examination. This review recommends employing an empirical, methodological, and self-reflective framework for conducting thorough research and in-depth intellectual inquiry. Further research is required on the application of the integrated constructs from Worlds 1, 2, and 3 in other fields, particularly in virtual and digital research contexts. This review promotes the use of thoughtful approaches to context-focused reasoning to enhance science rigorously, and address pressing contemporary issues within ecosystems in a critically reflective manner

    Compliment Response Strategies Utilized by Jordanian Students: A Socio-Pragmatic Study

    Complimenting is a common communicative act in daily interactions that occurs among people in their daily communication. Complimenting practices vary across societies due to social and contextual factors. This study examined compliment response strategies employed by Jordanian students in an academic setting). This study collected data from undergraduate students at Jerash University who study in the English departments. A mixed-methods approach, employing observation and interviews, was used. Chen and Yang (2010) theoretical framework was adopted to analyze the data. The results showed that Jordanian students used various types of compliment responses: acceptance, mitigation/deflection, rejection, non-response and request interpretations. They utilized different strategies for each type, such as thanking, downgrading, disagreement, and silence. This study recommends future research comparing these findings with compliment response strategies used by students in other cultural contexts

    Digital Learning and Corrective Feedback: Analysing Moroccan In-service EFL Teachers’ Beliefs

    The aim of this research is to investigate the beliefs and perceptions of in-service English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in the Moroccan context with regard to digital learning. Corrective feedback is a key component of digital learning, applied linguistics, language pedagogy and language acquisition. In the past two decades, research on OCF has received a considerable and extensive attention to investigate the effectiveness and importance of CF in the context of digital foreign language learning. Most of these studies have shown that CF is beneficial and necessary for foreign language learners. The findings of the study shows that in-service EFL teachers have a general understanding of corrective feedback (CF) techniques, but there is a need for professional development in this area. Elicitation and implicit correction are the most commonly used CF techniques. Furthermore, teachers recognize the importance of CF for effective digital EFL instruction. However, a significant number of teachers do not use digital tools to provide CF due to technological limitations, training deficiencies, or resistance to change. Exploring 35 EFL Moroccan teachers’ beliefs concerning OCF types and importance can shed light on their instructional practices and provide insights into the effectiveness of feedback strategies employed in EFL classrooms. To address this, we adopt in this study the descriptive analytical approach as one of the scientific research methods.

    Understanding the Reader’s Experience: A Psychological Approach to Improving Translation’s Readability

    This paper uses reading psychology theory to improve translation’s readability. Reading psychology theory provides a new lens through which to enhance focus on the reader’s mental process. This approach offers solutions to traditional translation issues. This paper presents the following points for consideration: First, the translation should ensure that the information is comprehensive and consistent, to avoid confusing the reader or causing misunderstandings; Second, the translator must consider how the translated content interacts with the reader’s existing knowledge and anticipate the target audiences’ characteristics; Third, hypertextual information must be kept rich and cohesive in the translation; Fourth, the background knowledge, cognitive abilities, values, emotional motivations, and reading goals of the target audience should be comprehensively considered to facilitate a positive reading experience; Fifth, the author’s original details should be fully retained without unauthorized alterations, and it is advisable to consult with the original author when necessary. At the same time, this paper also addresses the current situation of translation works in the context of the Internet environment in the information age

    A Reflection of Gender Inequality: The Analysis of Bridget Jones’s Diary through the Gender Perspective

    This study examines the 2001 film Bridget Jones’s Diary from a gender perspective, exploring how the movie reflects gender inequality through its portrayal of body image, family roles, and career dynamics. Although the film is often categorized as a romantic comedy, it subtly critiques societal norms and gender disparities. The analysis reveals that the protagonist, Bridget, is subject to body standards shaped by mass media, which are predominantly influenced by the male gaze. The film’s portrayal of Bridget’s body, particularly in intimate scenes, highlights the unequal representation of men and women in terms of physical exposure and objectification. Furthermore, the family dynamic in the film exemplifies gender inequality through the division of labor, where women, despite being at the center of family life, are still relegated to secondary roles, while male authority is implicit in family decision-making. Lastly, career-related gender segregation is evident, with Bridget initially employed in a low-status position and later facing sexual harassment in her new job as a journalist. The film portrays the contrast between female and male characters, with men holding more prestigious and well-paid roles. This analysis contributes to the ongoing discussion of gender inequality in popular culture, providing a fresh perspective on a well-known film and offering insight into the subtle ways gender bias is perpetuated in everyday life
