Radio listening in Newcastle and Hunter region, 1980
No full textThe survey, conducted in the Newcastle and Upper Hunter area of NSW was concerned with radio and television usage, and in particular with listening to 2NC - the ABC Radio 1 Station in Newcastle, and 2OH - the ABC Radio 3 station in Muswellbrook. The survey included questions relating to specific programs on these stations, and a one-day media diary. Topics include: television and radio ownership; number of radios in the household and in cars and the number which are FM receivers; problems with radio reception and which stations are hard to receive; whether the respondent has listened to the radio in the last seven days and if not, the reasons for not listening; stations listened to in the last seven days; an activities diary for one day; the respondent's use of radio; listening habits for specific time periods of weekdays; whether the respondent listens to ABC stations 2NA, 2NC or 2UH and the frequency of listening for specific programs on these stations; newspaper and magazine readership; whether the respondent has a colour television or a black and white set or both; the number of weeknights that television is watched in the evening from 6 o'clock onwards and on which channel the news is watched; type of news coverage preferred; opinions of ABC news programmes and their formats; whether the district news is adequately covered by the local ABC television programs; and, which sports are watched on television at the weekends. Background information includes age, sex, occupation, the time that the respondent usually gets home from work, school, etc., level of education, household composition and an interviewer assessment of the respondent's attitude to the interview. Drug Use Among Secondary School Students, New South Wales, 1992
No full textThis survey is the fourth in a triennial series started in 1983 to monitor trends in drug use among secondary school students in NSW. The objectives of the survey series are; to provide reliable data on prevalence and other aspects of student drug use, to monitor patterns and changes in the prevalence of adolescent drug use and to evaluate the effectiveness of drug education initiatives and social policy. The survey consisted of three parts; the core section was completed by all respondents and the tobacco section (group A) and alcohol and legislation section (group B) were each completed by approximately half the respondents. The core section included demographic information such as age, year at school, area of residence, household members, parents' country of birth and language spoken at home. It also included prevalence items for nine groups of drugs; the substance types covered were alcohol, tobacco, pain killers (analgesics), cannabis, inhalants (solvents and aerosols), sedatives, stimulants, hallucinogens and narcotics. The tobacco version consisted of questions relating to the messages of the 1992 Rock Eisteddfod and the 'hook' ad campaign, frequency of tobacco use, significant others that smoke, ways of obtaining cigarettes, attitudes about smoking, quitting smoking and lessons on smoking at school. The alcohol and legislation version consisted of questions relating to attitudes about alcohol, obtaining alcohol, penalties for buying alcohol and cigarettes underage, perceived likelihood of being caught buying alcohol and cigarettes underage and attitudes towards obtaining cigarettes and alcohol illegally

No full textThe 2007 election campaign TV news coverage files extend previous sets of TV news coverage data gathered by David Denemark (1998) and by David Denemark, Clive Bean ((Queensland Univ of Technology) and Ian Ward (Univ of Queensland), 2001). The aim of the project was to explore television news coverage of Australian election campaigns and measured the amount of television coverage of political parties, leaders and election issues. National bulletins were collected and local news in Brisbane and Perth during the 2007 federal election campaign. This study was also conducted in 1998 and 2001. This study measures coverage of 12 election issues and 10 other issues as defined in the Australian Election Study, 2007 (ADA No. 1120). This file refers to the Channel 7 Perth News coverage at 6 pm. Variables include time in seconds given to political parties and political leaders. Also measured was time given to election issues including: education, environment, health, industrial relations and taxation. Prominence of the news bulletin in the news (x10 for lead story; 9 for second story in the bulletin; 8 for third story…1 for 10th or lower story) was used to generate "weighted seconds." All news sessions during the campaign for the targeted channels were captured. There were NO missing bulletins
