No full textThe 2007 election campaign TV news coverage files extend previous sets of TV news coverage data gathered by David Denemark (1998) and by David Denemark, Clive Bean ((Queensland Univ of Technology) and Ian Ward (Univ of Queensland), 2001). The aim of the project was to explore television news coverage of Australian election campaigns and measured the amount of television coverage of political parties, leaders and election issues. National bulletins were collected and local news in Brisbane and Perth during the 2007 federal election campaign. This study was also conducted in 1998 and 2001. This study measures coverage of 12 election issues and 10 other issues as defined in the Australian Election Study, 2007 (ADA No. 1120). This file refers to the Channel 2 Brisbane News coverage at 7 pm. Variables include time in seconds given to political parties and political leaders. Also measured was time given to election issues including: education, environment, health, industrial relations and taxation. Prominence of the news bulletin in the news (x10 for lead story; 9 for second story in the bulletin; 8 for third story…1 for 10th or lower story) was used to generate "weighted seconds." All news sessions during the campaign for the targeted channels were captured. There were NO missing bulletins

No full textThe Age Poll was first conducted in March 1971 by the Australian Sales Research Bureau Pty. Ltd. before switching to Irving Saulwick and Associates in April 1975. Conducted in June 1972 this 'Age Poll' is the sixth in the Age Poll series. For this Age Poll, the metropolitan Local Government Areas of Melbourne and Sydney were surveyed. Topics covered in this survey are economic conditions in Australia, women's liberation movement, standard working week hours and opinions on migrant population. Political topics in this survey include opinions of Mr McMahon and Mr Whitlam, most important election campaign issues and opinions on differences in running of the country with a change of party in power. Standard variables are country of birth, education level, religious denomination and frequency of church attendance, occupation of respondent and head of household, marital status, age group, sex, vote intention and vote at last Federal election, and whether on the telephone

No full textThe Australian Child Wellbeing Project (ACWP) is a child-centred study in which young people’s perspectives have been used to design and conduct Australia’s first major nationally representative and internationally comparable survey of wellbeing among young people aged 9-14 years. Particular attention was given to understanding the perspectives of seven groups of young people with specific experiences and needs that may have a bearing on their wellbeing: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, culturally and linguistically diverse young people, young people with disability, young carers, young people in regional and remote Australia, materially disadvantaged young people, and young people in out-of-home care. The survey aimed to benchmark young people's wellbeing in Australia, provide the basis for international comparison of their wellbeing, and provide information to contribute to the development of effective services for young people’s healthy development. The survey instrument includes questions that are comparable with the international Health Behaviour in School Aged Children study (www.hbsc.org) and the international Children's World's study (www.isciweb.org). The ACWP survey was dstributed to a national probability sample of students in Years 4, 6 and 8 and was successfully completed during Term 3 2014 in 180 schools across Australia, with final sample of 5440 students.
