Census of Clients of Treatment Service Agencies, 1990: Agency data and Core (Client) data
No full textA census of clients of drug and alcohol treatment agencies was undertaken to document the characteristics of clients attending these facilities. Variables include the type of service provided to clients, user's main drug problem, and drugs injected by user in the past 12 months. Background variables include client's age, sex, country of birth and employment status. The data are held at ADA in two data files. The data file 01046-age data file contains agency data. The other data file (01046-cor) contains core (client) data
Australian Candidate Study, 2016
No full textThe Australian Candidate Study surveys are conducted in parallel with the AES surveys of voters, and have been conducted at each federal election since 1987, with the exception of the 1998 election. All but the 1987 study have been funded by the Australian Research Council. The 2016 Australian Election Study had two components: the “Voters Survey” of Australian citizens eligible to vote in federal elections; and the “Candidates Survey” of 2016 Australian political candidates representing the four major political parties. Many of the questions in the 2016 Candidate Survey have also been asked of Voters, allowing aggregate comparisons to be made between the views of Candidates and Voters. Other sections cover the candidate's political background, the election campaign, experience of the candidate for political office and their personal background. For the first time, the 2016 Candidates Survey used a wholly online survey approach. Survey invitations and tailored reminders were sent via email and contained a unique survey link. In total, 591 candidates were selected and invited to participate in the survey. Of these, 182 (30.8%) went on to complete the survey (includes eligible partial completes)

No figures are given for state elections in Tasmania because its proportional representation system is not readily amenable to this technique. For each electoral division or district, the record for a particular election contains the numbers of ALP and non-ALP votes and the corresponding percentages (to one decimal place)
Australian children in families, 1982-1983
No full textThis study was conducted to discover the experiences of children in families at various stages of the life cycle, giving special attention to the child's perception of family life. The data file combines information from inter- views with one child and one parent of the same family. A major focus of the survey was the concept of child competence, and the ways in which various types and levels of family resources are actively used by children in the development of competence. The parent interview included sections on perceptions of the child's character, competence and health; relations with the child; aspirations for the child; the family environment and relationships; the marital relationship; the child's reaction to divorce or separation; values concerning children; and relations with relatives and friends. Background variables for parents include questions on birthplace, mobility, marriage and partners, resources and costs, housing, education, employment and present household structure. The child interview included sections on division of labour and division of goods and resources in the household; views about parents and other family members; family decision- making and rules; child's friendships, outside activities and interests; feelings about school; and after-school activities and television. Background variables are sex, age, school class, urban/rural area, type of school, and family structure

Graduate Destination Survey, 2002
No full textThe aim of the Graduate Careers Council of Australia's annual Graduate Destination Survey is to collect information about the activities of Australia's higher eduacation graduates, after the completion of their degree. The survey has been conducted annually since 1974. The target population for the survey is graduates who had completed requirements for higher education qualifications in the previous calendar year, including graduates residing overseas and international students. The survey variables can be broadly catagorised into three areas of investigation: Course, Employment and Further study. Course variables include level of qualification attained; field of study; attendence, length of time taken to to complete course; and employer support during course. Employment variables include employment status at census date; whether employed full-time or part-time; whether a short-term of permanent employee; occupation at census date; annual salary; and length of service. Further study variables include level of current qualification; field of study; attendence; date of course commencement; and institution attended. Background variables include age and sex; residency status; home state; disability; non-english speaking background; first educational qualification after leaving school; and highest educational qualification prior to undertaking the course

No full textSurveys of the mathematical achievement of high school students were carried out in twelve countries. This dataset contains the data from the Australian study in a structure designed to correspond to the data files from a subsequent study, carried out in 1978 (see SSDA study no. 71). The two study-design aimed to investigate changes in secondary school mathematics over the 14 year period. Students completed a mathematics test; an opinion questionnaire on the importance of mathematics, the facility of mathematics, the teaching of mathematics, school enjoyment and control over the environment; and background questionnaire on demographic and mathematical education variables. Questionnaires were also completed by teachers and school principals

No full textA study of population mobility and party allegiance in the urban population of the Northern Territory was carried out in order to examine whether Territorians see themselves as being 'different' and are in fact different to other Australians, with consequent political implications. Topics investigated include past and present voting preferences; attitudes towards political parties, their leaders and their policies; attitudes towards class mobility and conflict; perceived power groups; and problems facing the Northern Territory. No full textThe purpose of this survey was to study general characteristics of and views about teacher education of current student teachers. Two further surveys were also conducted within the same study to establish the views of practising teachers and teacher educators on issues related to teacher education [SSDA Study Nos. 193 and 194]. Topics covered include: overall satisfaction with university or college; comparative views on the purpose of schooling; rating of teacher education experience thus far; opinion on ability to find teaching position; emphasis given to specified teaching areas; qualities of the average lecturer at your institution; common complaints about teacher training; time spent on specific learning activities; evaluation of teacher training experience including structure of courses, course content, selection for teacher education courses and appointment to teaching service and induction procedures; supervision of student teachers. Background variables include: sex; age; locality of secondary school attendance; other work experience; other tertiary qualifications; current plans for 1980; fulfilled programme requirements of 1979 academic year; secondary schooling; educational attainment and occupation of parents; marriage and children; main source of income in 1979; ethnicity
