    Anatomical Aspect of Snayu; Ayurveda and Modern Perspectives

    In Ayurveda, ligaments described as Snayu while tendon described as Kandra. Anatomically the muscle, ligament and tendon represent extra-articular apparatus. Snayu as structure of human body posses close relation to the Sandhi. Snayu as bunches of fibres helps to maintain body posture and impart weight wearing capacity. Acharya Sushruta referred working of Snayu as like binding plates of boats that allows boat to bear the weight. Snayu itself mean to bind, it helps to bind joints together and its fibrous nature provides flexibility. As anatomical structure Snayu having physiological importance but also suffered by pathological problems. There are some diseases described in Ayurveda related to the impairment of Snayu possessing symptoms of pain, stiffness and swelling, etc. Snayu Sharira needs to be understood in details to explore its physiological, anatomical and pathological aspects.     Meningitis

    The term aseptic meningitis encompasses all types of inflammations of the brain meninges other than that caused by pus producing organisms. It is usually a mild illness. Etiology of aseptic meningitis is very wide and includes many infections - both viral and non viral, drugs, malignancy and systemic illness. The most common cause is viral infection and enteroviruses - Coxsackie and ECHO viruses account for more than half of all cases. Clinical manifestations include headache, fever, malaise, photophobia and meningeal signs. Convulsions, neurological deficits and severe obtundation are rare except with certain non viral infectious meningitis. Diagnostic work up includes blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination and serology for infectious meningitis. The polymerase chain reaction is a rapid and accurate method for detection of microbial DNA in CSF. Treatment is mainly supportive, except for the nonviral infectious etiology

    The current era put stress, and strain on human population as a result of dietary changes, lifestyle adjustments, urbanization, and industrialization, which increase pollution and antibiotic resistance and contribute to the occurrence of numerous diseases. Due to its central location and constant exposure to the outside world, the nose is particularly vulnerable to these risk factors and recurring infections. Jirna Pratishyaya is the sickness that is most frequently spreading. The condition becomes a chronic phase as a result of recurrent attacks, poor treatment, or neglect during the acute period. The current medical system explains a variety of treatment options, such as corticosteroids, antiallergic medications, inhalers, antihistamines, etc., but none of them is completely efficient in treating the disease and avoiding its recurrence, and they all have their own adverse effects.     Ayurveda aims towards the maintenance of health of a healthy person and helps to curing the diseases of diseased person. Ayurveda suggested various therapeutic approaches for maintaining balances of Dosha, Dhatu and Mala. Similarly ayurveda described mentioned different modalities of disease diagnosis and Kriyakala is one such modality which helps to recognize various stages of disease progression. The concept of Kriyakala provides benefits to plant appropriate treatment according to the stage of disease progression. The appropriate measures can be taken to correct the balances of Doshas in particular stages of disease. Ayurveda explored the concept of Shatkriyakala as a “six stages of disease progression” in which the pathogenesis of disease can be assessed in different stages.     Vrikshayurveda a classical science of botanical field, this science deals with growth and development of plants. This science mainly suggests uses of Kunapa jala and Pancha gavya for the high productivity of crops. This concept works around organic farming for effective plant growth. Vrikshayurvedha mentioned Kunapajala as organic liquid manure which is a fermentation product and acts as plant nutrients. There are two types of Kunapajala mainly in practices viz; herbal and non-herbal which is prepared according to the procedures described in Vrikshayurvedha. Considering importance of this we planned a study to investigate role of Vrikshayurvedha concept for the development of medicinal plant; Shalparni. Present study investigated role of Kunapajala in the growth and % yield of plant Shalparni. This study observed that Kunapajala treatment offered best response with respect to root yield and soil physico-chemical parameters.     Unique Philosophy of Pratinidhi Dravyas and its Clinical considerations: Needs of Current Scenario

    Pratinidhi dravyas means drug substitutes used in place of original drug which is Abhav dravya (unavailable). The Abhav and Pratinidhi drugs should possess similar Guna and therapeutic activities, so that Pratinidhi dravya can be used in place of Abhav dravya for similar therapeutic purposes. Pratinidhi dravya used in case of unavailability of drug may be due to the loss on habitat, over exploitation of natural sources and selection of rare plant species. The concept of Pratinidhi dravyas not only resides around the substitution of plant based drug but precious gems and stone can also be substituted with their cheaper substituent to retain similar therapeutic properties as like replaced gems and stone. However the Ayurveda literature suggested utilization of Pratinidhi dravyas on the basis of rationale reasoning after consideration of effects and side effects of Pratinidhi dravyas. The modern and ancient sciences briefed about the drug substitution to achieve the desired effects.
