Determinant of readiness for adopting healthy lifestyle behavior among university employee: structural equation modeling
Identifying the factors influencing healthy lifestyle behaviors among university faculty and staff is crucial for designing interventions to enhance health outcomes and reduce healthcare expenses. This study aimed to explore the determinants of readiness for adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors among university employees, with a focus on aspects such as diet, physical activity, and stress management in Indonesia. Using a cross-sectional survey approach, respondents participated in guided interviews utilizing the G-form. Through Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS SEM) analysis, it was found that while lifestyle choices did not significantly impact readiness to change lifestyles (p-value>0.05); factors such as health status, use of preventive services, mental health, and perception of occupational health significantly influenced readiness (p-value<0.05). The study underscores the importance of considering various factors, including mental health, health status, and work-related perceptions, to encourage readiness for lifestyle changes among university employees. An incorporating comprehensive wellness programs with mental health resources, regular health screenings, and workplace health initiatives should be considered in implementation of healthy lifestyle program in the universities
Knowledge, attitude, and practice among the Indian population regarding COVID-19 using LASI-DAD COVID-19 data
During the COVID-19 pandemic, India was one of the worst-hit countries in terms of the number of cases and deaths. Knowledge, attitude, and practice play an important role in reducing disease transmission. This study uses a nationally represented large data set to understand the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of COVID-19 among the Indian population. This cross-sectional study utilized Diagnostic Assessment of Dementia for the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI-DAD) COVID-19 data which provides information on respondents’ demographics, socioeconomic effects, health status, behavior, perceptions, and attitudes toward COVID-19. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression were performed to find the results. Out of 3,797 respondents, 1,929 (50.8%) accounted for males and 1,868 (49.2%) for females; rural respondents were 40.3% and urban were 59.7%. The findings show that the respondent’s knowledge about COVID-19 was improved from rounds 1 to 4 and 7, but attitude from round 2 to round 8 and behavior from round 1 to round 9 were poor. In multivariate analysis, males (AOR=1.855; CI=1.129-3.048; p=0.015) and people residing in urban areas (AOR=1.698; CI=1.050-2.745; p=0.031) had a good level of knowledge towards COVID-19 when compared to their females, and rural counterparts. Despite a good level of knowledge about COVID-19 among the Indian population, attitudes and practices towards COVID-19 were poor. There is a need to establish and implement effective policies and interventions to improve people’s behavior towards COVID-19 and similar pandemics that the world might encounter in the future
Recovery, self-stigma, quality of life, and the determinants among people with schizophrenia: a systematic review
Recovery and quality of life for people with schizophrenia (PWS) are persisting challenges in mental health services. Therefore, this research aims to investigate factors contributing significantly to PWS recovery for quality-of-life enhancement. A comprehensive search across six databases, including Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, SpringerLink, Web of Science, and CINAHL generated 196, 122, 134, 79, 51, and 113 articles, respectively, for screening. These 695 articles focused on patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in recovery, as well as comprised journal publications from 2019 to 2023 and quantitative or qualitative research published in English. A total of 22 articles that met the inclusion criteria were subject to a review process. The results showed that PWS recovery was influenced by coping strategies, illness severity, treatment compliance, hope, spirituality, social support, and partnerships, while self-stigma hindered recovery and quality of life. However, spirituality was found to significantly foster hope, self-confidence, self-control, and meaning for PWS. Health profesional played an important role in the recovery process through the establishment of partnerships, provision of coping skills, and empowerment of patients
Spirituality and self-management in coronary heart diseases patient
Coronary heart disease is still the leading cause of death globally. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of spirituality on the self-management of coronary heart disease patients. The research design used a cross-sectional study. Samples were 145 patients who had been diagnosed with coronary heart. The research variables are spirituality and self-management. The instrument uses a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by linear regression test. The results of the study show that the spirituality of coronary heart disease (CHD) patients on the belief in God dimension is 51% high, search for meaning is 74.5% high, mindfulness is 66.2% high and feeling of security is 59.3% high. Meanwhile, the self-management of problem recognition 52.4% good, outcome of expectancy 62.8% good, planning 50.3% good and decision making 94.5% good. The results of the linear regression analysis test showed that belief in God had an effect on problem recognition (p-value 0.004), outcome expectancy (p-value<0.001) and planning (p-value<0.001). While search for meaning, mindfulness and feeling of security do not affect all indicators of self-management
Validating psychometric properties of dual-continua models for university student mental health assessment
This study rigorously evaluates a mental health assessment tool for college students, grounded in the dual-continua model, which uniquely captures both positive (psychological well-being) and negative (psychological distress) mental health dimensions. Employing a sample of 312 students evenly split by gender, the research meticulously tested the tool's reliability and construct validity. Reliability was confirmed through a robust Cronbach's Alpha of .807, indicating consistency in responses. Construct validity was assessed via confirmatory factor analysis, affirming the tool's capacity to accurately measure the intended constructs with well-being and distress components scoring .828 and .875, respectively. This validation process underscores the instrument's precision and significant contribution to mental health research by providing a nuanced understanding of student mental health through dual-continua models. The findings offer a refined resource for mental health professionals and universities, facilitating the development of targeted interventions. However, the study acknowledges limitations, including its cross-sectional design and the need for further validation across diverse student populations, to ensure the tool's broad applicability and effectiveness in varied contexts
Utilising consumer reviews for passive surveillance of foodborne illnesses: insights and challenges from the Indian restaurant
This study explores the feasibility of leveraging consumer reviews for passive surveillance of foodborne illnesses, drawing parallels with pharmacovigilance systems. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, including a literature review, qualitative interviews with key stakeholders, and quantitative analysis of 56,000 restaurant reviews using a bidirectional encoder representation from transformers (BERT-based) aspect-based sentiment analysis model, the study seeks to understand the potential of social media data in enhancing food safety regulations. Despite the promise shown by the aspect-based analysis in identifying hygiene-related concerns, challenges such as data reliability, language diversity, and the absence of verifiable evidence limit the direct application of consumer reviews for regulatory purposes. Key informants highlighted the need for a tailored surveillance system, considering the Indian restaurant industry’s diversity and scale. The quantitative analysis revealed hygiene concerns in a significant portion of reviews, yet the specificity and verifiability of these complaints remain issues. The study suggests a cautious yet optimistic approach towards integrating social media data into foodborne illness surveillance, emphasizing the enhancement of traditional reporting mechanisms, targeted awareness campaigns, and industry collaboration. The findings advocate for a comprehensive strategy that includes developing a common platform for stakeholder communication and strengthening policy frameworks to support a collaborative surveillance system, particularly in developing contexts like India
The synergy of digital knowledge and skills in forming digital citizenship: a comprehensive assessment on nursing students
Nurses play a pivotal role in improving the quality of healthcare services through innovation in the nursing care delivery system by using technological advancement. Digital knowledge and mindset are useful for further developing digital skills and literacy among future nurses to form digital citizenship. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between digital knowledge and mindset with digital skills, literacy, and citizenship among nursing students. The mind sponge theory was used in study conceptualization and results interpretation. This quantitative study utilized a cross-sectional design. The population was all nursing students in two private nursing institutions located in Bangkok, Thailand (n=476) and Surabaya, Indonesia (n=179). Samples were the total population. Self-developed, valid, and reliable instrument was used in data collection. Descriptive statistics and correlation test were used in data analysis (α<.05). Findings showed that digital knowledge did not correlate with digital mindset (p=.94), but it was weakly correlated with digital skills, literacy, and citizenship (ρ=.12-.16; p<.05). Digital mindset was strongly correlated with digital skills, literacy, and citizenship (ρ=.56-.60; p<.05). Digital skills had a strong correlation with digital literacy and citizenship (ρ=.58-.67; p<.05), while digital literacy was strongly correlated with digital citizenship (ρ=.59; p=<.05). The synergy of digital mindset, skills, and literacy are recommended to support the digital citizenship formation. We strongly recommend the implementation of collaborative learning method in nursing education. This method promotes the information filtering and exchanging behaviors among students important for digital nursing
Paternal breastfeeding self-efficacy in South Tangerang, Indonesia: a qualitative study
Studies focusing on paternal confidence in supporting breastfeeding remain relatively scarce, especially in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to explore paternal breastfeeding self-efficacy among fathers in Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach with ten participants, including fathers and mothers with children aged 6-24 months who had experience in exclusive breastfeeding. It took place in South Tangerang City between May and July 2023. Fathers participated in focus group discussions, while mothers underwent in-depth interviews. The data analysis utilized content analysis, referring to the theme of the Self-efficacy framework. This study revealed that fathers felt less confident when dealing with issues such as the baby's low weight, breastfeeding refusal, and the mother returning to work. However, seeing the consequences of not exclusively breastfeeding and the support from health workers and the community helped them stay confident. These factors, along with a sense of pride and satisfaction, strengthened their ability to support exclusive breastfeeding. Paternal breastfeeding self-efficacy is dynamic. However, previous experience, observation of others, verbal persuasion, and positive emotions strengthen fathers' beliefs. Parents need to consult a lactation counselor when facing problems while breastfeeding. Counselors can provide assistance and motivation to remain confident and continue to exclusively breastfeed
Informing compliance factors regarding hospitals waste management procedures in Indonesia: a scoping review
The hospital staff's non-compliance in managing hazardous waste can hurt the environment and public health. There are various practicals to mitigate the harmful effects of hazardous medical waste on the environment and public health. However, there needs to be evidence to provide accurate data regarding compliance with hazardous waste management at hospitals in Indonesia. This study aims to assess and map the determinants affecting hospital liquid medical waste management. This study examined electronic databases from 2017-2023. Studies were screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study was grounded in the scoping review to inform compliance factors regarding waste management in Hospitals. One article describes compliance with the regulation, and the other concerns supervising hospital waste management. Those articles are not detailed enough in describing supervision, so we suggest further research about supervision support to foster the management process and the result of hospital waste management. Regulation is essential for all processes and products that affect the environment. Compliance with guidelines needs to become a habit and improve over time
Thai E-sarn dance on balance and muscle strength in elderly women with falls risk
The risk of falls, which is a significant contributor to mortality among the elderly population, is increasing due to declining balance and muscle strength. A quasi-experimental design was used in this study to examine the effects of traditional Thai E-sarn on balance and muscle strength in older women living in the community. The experimental or control group consisted of 35 people. The experimental group participated in a 12-week fitness regimen utilizing Thai E-sarn. The control group avoided participating in any type of physical activity. The experimental group exhibited notable enhancements in their balance, muscle strength, and health parameters as compared to the control group. In the experimental group, the timed up and go test (TUG) score was reduced by 1.91 seconds (95%CI: 0.67 to 3.16), p=0.003, while the 30-second chair stand test (30CST) increased by 3.15 (95%CI: 1.24 to 5.04), p<0.002. Systolic blood pressure dropped by 6.58 mmHg, diastolic by 5.57, and heart rate by 5.29 beats per minute. These findings suggest regular Thai E-sarn dance may improve balance, muscle strength, and all other parameters. Additional investigation is required to elucidate the impact of exercise on enhancing the general health of older adults
