    Get PDF
Working mothers burdened with work and household responsibilities face challenges with work-life balance, which could be empowered through supervisor support in the workplace. Therefore, it is vital to identify the impact of supervisor support on working mothers’ work-life balance. However, available instruments to measure both constructs for the Malay-speaking Malaysian population are dearth. This study assessed the psychometric properties of the Malay version of the supervisor support scale (SS-Malay) and work-life balance checklist (WLB-Malay) and investigated the relationship between these variables among Malaysian working mothers. Using purposive sampling, 200 working mothers (M=38.80, SD=8.43) for the pilot study and 275 working mothers (M=38.33, SD=7.86) for the actual study completed either an online or printed survey consisting of demographic information, the supervisor support scale, and the work-life balance checklist. Exploratory factor analysis conducted on the pilot study data reported a two-factor structure for WLB-Malay and one factor for SS-Malay. Similarly, confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the unidimensional factor of SS-Malay, and two factors of WLB-Malay: concerned about work, and self. Reliability was established with alpha, omega, and composite reliability values of more than .70. Discriminant validity was established with correlation values of less than .90, and concurrent validity was established with significant moderation positive association between constructs. Structural equation modelling reported a satisfactory model fit for both scales and identified a positive impact of supervisor support on work-life balance among Malaysian working mothers. Accordingly, both WLB-Malay and SS-Malay are culturally fit for Malaysian working mothers

    Get PDF
The outcomes of an initial research on eye fatigue in the Digital Industry in Yogyakarta, Indonesia revealed that 76% of the employees encountered complaints of eye fatigue as a result of prolonged computer usage. Eye fatigue is considered one of the parameters of office ergonomics in accordance with Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation No. 48 of 2016. One method recommended by this regulation to mitigate eye fatigue is to incorporate short breaks using the 20-20-20 technique. However, a considerable number of workers tend to disregard these recommendations, necessitating the use of media reminders, such as timers, to enforce discipline among workers. The objective of this research was to assess the impact of employing a timer-based media using the 20-20-20 method on the reduction of eye fatigue. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. In this research, a total of forty workers were selected as the sample population and subsequently divided into two groups: the intervention group and the control group. Sampling was conducted to select a total of 20 workers for each group through purposive sampling. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Sign test and Mann-Whitney test, with a significance threshold of 95% (α=0.05). The results of the statistical tests conducted in both the intervention and control groups revealed a significant difference in reducing eye fatigue, with a p-value of 0.041. This research concludes that the utilization of the 20-20-20 method timer media has a significant effect on reducing eye fatigue among workers

Anxiety in women increases with the start of labor and has a negative impact on mothers and newborns. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of listening to murottal Al-Quran on increasing oxygen saturation and reducing pain in mothers in the active phase of labor. This research was quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design and a preexperimental design one-group pretest-posttest. This study was conducted at the Kendari City Hospital. The sample was determined as a total population, considering that the number of mothers during the first active phase was only 30. The data analysis technique in this study went through two calculation stages: the data normality test by Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Paired Sample Statistics, and all calculations using SPSS. The results of the statistical tests using the Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.000. Statistically, it can be concluded that there are differences in oxygen saturation values before and after the administration of murottal intervention. It was also found that 27 respondents experienced an increase in oxygen saturation after receiving murottal intervention. In conclusion, murottal intervention increased oxygen saturation

Analysis of vaccination policy in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia

    Get PDF
This study aims to reflect on the pattern of vaccination policies implemented by the Indonesian government and to analyze public sentiment (pro/con) towards vaccination policies and the government's strategy in formulating democratic policies, prioritizing the aspirations of those affected by the policies adopted. This paper uses qualitative research methods with NVivo 12 Plus as a data processing tool. This study's results indicate that vaccination policies tend to be mandatory in Indonesia with an indirect compulsory application polarization. Hence, the government still uses a coercive and restrictive approach to vaccination programs. In Indonesia, vaccination policy intersects with ethical aspects, especially religious values, resulting in diverse public sentiments

Development of resilience model in people with human immunodeficiency virus undergoing antiretroviral therapy

    Get PDF
Resilience that has not been formed and self-regulatory functions that are not optimal, play a role in low adherence to treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). This study aimed to develop a resilience model of antiretroviral therapy (ARV) adherence and quality of life for PLHIV. This study used a cross-sectional approach to 185 PLHIV in Tulungagung, East Java, Indonesia who were selected using simple random sampling. Individual factors, disease representation, emotional response, social support, interpretation, coping, resilience, adherence, and quality of life were variables in this study that were measured using a questionnaire. The data were then analyzed descriptively and using structural equation model (SEM) based on partial least square (PLS). The results showed that individual factors (T=4.062), disease representation (T=3.755), emotional response (T=3.988), and social support (T=2.753) affected interpretation of disease. Interpretation of disease then influences coping (T=5.285). Coping affects resilience (T=4.045), resilience influences ARV adherence (T=2.846), and adherence affects quality of life (T=10.050). Other factors that directly influence ARV adherence are emotional response (T=3.120) and social support (T=3.255). This resilience model is relevantly able to improve adherence in PLHIV. Emotional response is a factor that has the strongest influence in shaping the resilience of PLHIV in the mechanism of adherence and quality of life

Traditional beliefs and practices of postpartum care in rural East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

    Get PDF
Maternal mortality remains a pressing public health issue in Indonesia, particularly for mothers residing in rural regions who often forego postnatal health services due to traditional beliefs and practices. This qualitative research delved into the cultural perspectives of the local community to gain insight into the care practices of postpartum mothers in rural areas of NTT Province, Indonesia. The study involved in-depth interviews with nine participants, including four postpartum mothers, four family members, and one village midwife, with the interview data analyzed thematically. The research revealed that cultural beliefs and practices revolving around the postpartum period in NTT align with shared beliefs and traditional practices found in various Asian societies. This includes behavioral taboos and food restrictions. The study also identified two primary postpartum traditions aimed at restoring the postpartum mother's body heat and strength. All postpartum mothers adhere to traditional care practices because they believe in their benefits, pressure from family members, and fear of non-compliance consequences. However, postnatal mothers and their families have low postnatal care visits and do not receive adequate information about postpartum care. Health literacy for postpartum women and their families in rural areas needs to be improved and health workers should provide culturally sensitive maternal health services

    Maintaining altruism among nursing professionals

    Get PDF
The demanding hospital work environment has increased the need for organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB). It’s essential to maintain the altruistic behaviour of nursing professionals towards each other to enhance the patient experience and provide quality healthcare service to patients efficiently. This quantitative study explored the relationships between OCB constructs based on social identity theory (SIT) and system justification theory (SJT). This study is empirical and cross-sectional in nature; structural equation modeling is performed on two hundred twenty-two nursing professional responses, using IBM AMOS V.22 to test the hypothesized model. Conscientiousness has a mediating effect on the relationship between civic virtue and altruism (Indirect effect=0.19, Boot SE=.057, lower-level confidence interval (LLCI)=.0940, upper-level confidence interval (ULCI)=.3144). Moreover, sportsmanship had a mediating effect on the relationship between civic virtue and altruism with an Indirect effect=-0.06, Boot SE=.023, LLCI=-0.1159, ULCI=-0.0222). The results supported the hypothesis that civic virtue and altruism are directly related and found that conscientiousness and sportsmanship mediate the relationship between civic virtue and altruism. The findings suggest that employees with higher sportsmanship tend to reduce their altruistic behavior in the long run

    Get PDF
Participation in sports and physical activity (PA) is often considered a potential contributor to psychological resilience due to its physical, cognitive, and social benefits. This review aims to synthesize an extensive overview of the existing knowledge landscape, shedding light on the mechanisms through which sport and PA may contribute to psychological resilience among students. Guided by the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement review method, we comprehensively searched key databases, including EBSCOhost and Scopus. Note that a total of 353 publications were initially determined. The final finding data concludes that 15 met the selection criteria. The findings were synthesized based on three themes: enhancing positive mental health, reducing negative emotions, and mitigating depression and anxiety. These outcomes highlight the transformative potential of sports and PAs in nurturing a robust psychological foundation among student populations. However, it calls for more robust and standardized research approaches. This is with implications suggesting the integration of sports and PA into comprehensive mental health programs, emphasizing their multifaceted benefits beyond psychological resilience. Tailoring interventions, recognizing the social aspects, and emphasizing the personalized approach can contribute to more effective mental health promotion strategies for students

    Get PDF
In both global and Thai contexts, unhealthy behaviors such as alcohol consumption, smoking, excessive salt intake, and sedentary lifestyles contribute to hypertension. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends lifestyle adjustments for blood pressure control. This quasi-experimental study examined the impact of an intervention on elderly individuals with prehypertension. People living in two villages were selected, matching two others demographically and geographically. The intervention focused on a balanced diet, physical activity, stress management, and reduced tobacco/alcohol use with a low-sodium diet. Blood pressure and heart rate were measured three times after a 10-minute rest using a calibrated sphygmomanometer. The study showed significant improvements with p<0.001. Systolic blood pressure decreased by 5.94 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure decreased by 3.37 mmHg, and heart rate decreased by 4.12  bpm. The findings emphasize the importance of comprehensive lifestyle modifications to manage prehypertension and reduce hypertension-related complications in older people. Further research and interventions are needed to address people with hypertension globally, including in Thailand
