Expectant mothers' social media emotional support-seeking behavior

    Get PDF
In developing countries, the use of digital media for health information by expectant mothers is a relatively new phenomenon, in contrast to developed countries. This study explores whether emotional support and satisfaction are linked and how they affect the use of social media for healthcare information. A non-experimental survey design was employed in this study. Expectant mothers were surveyed in five hospitals in Ghana's capital from May to August 2022 using a questionnaire. After reviewing and cleaning the data, 580 usable responses were obtained. The collected data were analyzed using SmartPLS 4 structural equation modeling. The findings of the study indicate that expectant mothers' decision to adopt digital media for health information is influenced by emotional support on social media (ESPSM) and satisfaction with social media (SATSM). Furthermore, satisfaction with social media partially mediated the effect between ESPSM and social media health information usage (SMHIU). These findings highlight the importance of emotional support and satisfaction with social media platforms in promoting digital health information usage. In particular, emotional support plays a crucial role for women, especially during pregnancy. These discoveries provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals on how best to assist expectant mothers

The implementation of adolescent mental health services: opportunities and challenges

    Get PDF
Insufficient knowledge and information about mental health hinders the optimal use of adolescent mental health services. This qualitative case study aims to describe the utilization of adolescent mental health services (MHS) from the perspective of healthcare providers in primary health care (PHC). The primary informants were psychologists and youth care health services (YCHS) coordinators, while the triangulated informants comprised adolescents; they were selected using the purposive sampling technique. This research employs primary data collected through focus group discussions with the primary informants and in-depth interviews with the triangulated informants. The study results reported that there is no PHC providing MHS specifically designed for adolescents. Further, as low mental health literacy and stigma from parents were identified as challenges, peer support was detected to be the reinforcing factors for adolescents to access MHS. Hence, mental health literacy must be integrated into the school curriculum so that adolescent self-diagnosis does not occur

Validation on selected breast cancer drugs of physicochemical features by using machine learning models

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among females today. The elbow approach determines the ideal number of clusters after determining that the Dataset is highly cluster able with the Hopkins statistic. Three distinct groups with distinct differences were produced using the dataset's proposed expectation maximization fuzzy k-means clustering algorithm (PEMFKM). Different fuzzy clustering techniques, such as fuzzy k-means (FKM), fuzzy k-means with entropy (FKM.ENT), fuzzy k-means with entropy and noise (FKM.ENT.NOISE), Gustafson and Kessel - like fuzzy k-means (FKM.GK), Gustafson and Kessel - like fuzzy k-means with entropy regularization (FKM.GK.ENT), Gustafson and Kessel - like fuzzy kmeans with entropy regularization and noise (FKM.GK.ENT.NOISE), and PEMFKM, are evaluated. The partition coefficient (PC), partition entropy (PE), and Modified partition coefficient index (MPC) index values are better for FKM.GK than the suggested PEMFKM method. When compared to the FKM.GK method, the index values for the proposed PEMFKM algorithm have superior results for the parameters Silhouette (SIL), Xie and Beni index (XB), and fuzzy silhouette index (SIL.F). The results shows that the PEMFKM algorithm will provide better clusters and that the drugs in a given cluster may be combined for use in combination therapy for breast cancer treatment

Exploring relational aggression and gender dynamics: a global and Indonesian perspective

    Get PDF
Girls generally use less physical aggression than boys. However, does this mean that girls are more likely to use relational aggression. With this question in mind, our study aims to analyze the relational aggression of students in Indonesia based on gender. This type of research used is comparative research. The sample in this study was 510 respondents consisting of 19.6% male and 80.4% female. The relational aggression scale (RAS) was used to collect data on student relational aggression in various regions in Indonesia. The analysis technique used is descriptive and differences with the Welch test. The results show that there are significant differences in male and female relational aggression, with an average score difference of -0.30 logit between men and women. In addition, there are fluctuations in the level of relational aggression in the context of gender from year to year in some countries, such as the United States, China, Australia, and others. Recommendations for future research are to integrate a more in-depth social and cultural analysis in Indonesia

Achieving relationship satisfaction: household gender equality and mattering

    Get PDF
This study delves into the dynamics of relationship satisfaction (RS) among married couples and its crucial significance for mental health and psychological well-being. Survey data encompassing variables such as the general mattering scale, gender inequality in Household Chores scale, kansas marital conflict scale, and relationship assessment scale were gathered from 128 married individuals aged 18 to 65 in urban areas of Malaysia and Indonesia. Participants furnished demographic information including age, gender, and marriage duration. The study variables were assessed through the scales mentioned earlier. The findings, derived from bootstrap analysis involving 5,000 samples at a 95% confidence interval, revealed that the extent of partners' involvement in household chores significantly predicted their perception of gender equality in domestic responsibilities. This perception, in turn, fostered an elevated sense of mattering, thereby contributing to heightened relationship satisfaction. Importantly, the general mattering scale served as a significant mediator in the relationship between partner's household involvement and relationship satisfaction. In summary, couples benefit from partners engaging in domestic chores, resulting in an enhanced sense of mutual significance, greater relationship satisfaction, and improved mental well-being. Marital conflict frequency and intensity did not emerge as significant factors in this relationship

Incidence of congenital hypothyroidism in special region of Yogyakarta in 2018-2020

    Get PDF
Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is an inadequate thyroid hormone in newborns and is one of the most common causes of preventable mental retardation. It is crucial to do CH screening in newborns aged a few days to detect early occurrences of CH so that intervention can be done immediately. Screening for CH was introduced in Indonesia in 2000, and by 2014, the percentage of newborns screened remained less than 1% of the total. The Special Region of Yogyakarta, one of Indonesia's provinces, has not been the subject of any research regarding the incidence of CH. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the incidence of CH in the Special Region of Yogyakarta during the period from 2018 to 2020. This study, conducted from January 2018 to December 2020, investigated CH incidence in Yogyakarta using data from 23,787 screened newborns. Nine were diagnosed with primary CH. Incidence of CH in this study was higher in males than females, small for gestational age (SGA) than appropriate for gestational age (AGA), and preterm than term, with no significant differences between the variables and CH incidence. Therefore, the incidence in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in 2018-2020 was found to be 1:2,643

Effect of demographic factors on attitudes to purchase children’s supplement products

    Get PDF
Children's supplements are products widely offered by drug manufacturers. Their benefits and uses are essential for supporting the growth and health of children. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research in Indonesia examining the relationship between parental demographic factors and attitudes towards purchasing children’s supplements. This study employs a mixed-method approach to investigate the impact of demographic factors on attitudes toward purchasing children’s supplement products, aiming to fill the research gap. A total of 124 parents from diverse backgrounds participated as respondents, with 29.8% being male and 70.2% female. Their education levels ranged from high school (7.3%), bachelor’s degree (26.6%), master’s degree (50%), to doctoral degree (16.1%). The results of the regression analysis indicate that only income level plays a positive role in shaping attitudes towards purchasing children’s supplements. Notably, 89.5% of respondents believe in the benefits of these supplements. This study highlights the influence of income level on buying attitudes regarding children’s supplements. Future research should consider a larger sample size to better represent the population

    Get PDF
Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is an obsessive behavior towards healthy food with more importance on the quality than the quantity of food. Medical students tend to experience ON. The prevalence of ON in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tanjungpura (FK UNTAN) is around 56.1%. The study is conducted to assess the relationship between body mass index (BMI), diet, and eating patterns with ON indications for students of the Medical Study Program, FK UNTAN. This study uses mixed method (quantitativequalitative), for 66 students (2020 and 2021 batches) through proportionate stratified sampling and 10 students with low and high ON indications with the convenience methode. Analysis used Spearman's rho correlation test and contingency coefficient; qualitative analysis used descriptive inductive method. Bivariate analysis showed p>0.005 for BMI (p=0.139, diet (p=0.105), and the results were invalid for dietary pattern. Qualitative analysis shows people with ON can be influenced by social media which is characterized by their habit of seeking inspiration for healthy eating behaviors. There is no statistically significant relationship between BMI, diet, and eating patterns with ON but still found in FK students because of their knowledge related to nutrition, health and the desire to avoid illness

Irritable bowel syndrome following infectious COVID-19: East Java, Indonesia, 2023

    Get PDF
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder that causes chronic abdominal pain without a known cause. It is a common, chronic gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorder with bothersome symptoms that often lower quality of life and activity. In addition, Patients and healthcare facilities also face significant financial costs. COVID-19 directly damages the digestive system and alters the complex interaction of physical, mental, and social factors that cause digestive problems. SARS-CoV-2 survivors in personal isolation will be examined for IBS prevalence. The dates of this descriptive cross-sectional study are January through April 2023. Rome IV criteria and an online questionnaire were used to confirm the diagnosis of IBS. The principal location where polls have been sent is East Java, Indonesia. The 96 COVID-19 survivors aged 18–60 of both genders was included during self-quarantine. There were 59 females (61.46%) and 37 males (38.54%). The prevalence of IBS was discovered to be 19 (19.79%) among a total of 96 patients. This could be because self-quarantined people have more stable living conditions than hospitalized people. Based on these findings, it is suggested that future research consider gender as the primary proxy for identifying irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Dental caries is the highest-frequency oral disease. The purpose of this study is to assess the risk of developing dental caries for groups of children aged three to six in the city of Varna, Bulgaria, taking into account clinical risk factors. The population of this study included 300 children aged 3 to 6 years. Hence, as many 30 children for the experimental and 30 children for the control groups were included in the study with saliva tests. After that, standardized means of decayed, filled surfaces (DFS) index was estimated. The teeth of the children in the experimental group were covered for three months with Clinpro™ White Varnish. The Research Ethics Committee at the MU-Varna University approved the study. We applied the Greene and Vermillion oral hygiene index. Biostatistics was conducted with a specialized package for statistical analyzes was used StatSoft, STATISTICA manual (Software system for data analysis STATISTICA 10.0, 2010. The results in our study show the strong influence of carbohydrate nutrition and poor oral hygiene on the development and progression of the caries process. The results of the study of the frequency of caries lesions on surfaces show a value of 6.35±0.65. Caries lesions on 1 and 2 surfaces predominate (23.75%). Almost 100% of the children in the control group had Streptococcus mutans and a high risk of caries. From the risk assessment results obtained for each child patient, individual prevention programs are prepared for children
