This Night is a 2D animated Graduate Thesis Film. The story centers on a devout elderly woman who receives a vision foreshadowing her departure from life. Guided by this vision, she embarks on a profound journey. In her garden, she plucks a hibiscus and offers it to the deities in her home. As she prays with closed eyes, she envisions her hibiscus offering reaching the temple doors. Recognizing this as her sign to depart, she resolves to set out on her journey to meet the goddess at the temple. Plucking another hibiscus to carry with her, a sudden gust of wind sweeps the flower away. Undeterred, she follows the drifting hibiscus. As she trails the flower, her surroundings transform, leaving her momentarily bewildered. Despite the confusion, she continues to follow the flower, facing numerous obstacles along the way. Her unwavering faith illuminates the path, and her perseverance ultimately leads her to the steps of the temple
Beyond the Food: A Scoping Review of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)\u27s Comorbidities, Nutrition, and Growth Outcomes
Objective A scoping review design was chosen for this study to appropriately assess and understand the knowledge on ARFID and to identify psychological or developmental comorbidities, growth outcomes, and nutrient deficiencies and/or excesses in children and adolescents. Introduction Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a relatively new eating disorder, characterized by the DSM-5 in 2013.1 Individuals with ARFID exhibit selective eating due to lack of interest in eating food, sensory sensitivity, or a fear of possible vomiting or choking.2 The malnutrition seen in individuals with ARFID can result in physical health complications including weight loss, malnutrition, growth delay, decreased bone density, and nutrient deficiencies, all of which can lead to further health issues.6 Psychiatric and developmental comorbidities including autism, anxiety disorders, and ADHD are also common among individuals with ARFID. The aim of this review was to provide insight into the specific nutrient deficiencies, growth outcomes, and comorbidities of ARFID specifically in children and adolescents, as the disorder is frequently seen in this population. Inclusion Criteria Articles from any geographical area were considered if they met the following inclusion criteria: 1) published during or after 2013, 2) subjects were children and adolescents with an ARFID diagnosis (up to age 18), 3) Nutrient deficiencies, physical growth outcomes, or comorbid diagnoses found in participants, 4) content was original research, and 5) written in the English language. Methods Five academic literature databases were selected including PubMed, ProQuest, Science Direct, Springer, and Wiley based on their relevance to science and health. The data were compiled into a table that included the characteristics and results of each article, along with the research question(s) addressed by each individual source of evidence. Content analysis was done to answer each research question and factors considered were age, location, and comorbidities while using percentages and frequency counts. Results After a full-text review of articles, 37 articles were included in this review. Nearly half of the articles included in this review addressed the impact of ARFID on growth and development. These studies reported low BMI, low weight, and bone abnormalities as common growth outcomes. 27% of studies included in this review reported nutrient deficiencies resulting from ARFID. Nutrient deficiencies found frequently among studies included vitamins A, D, E, K, C, B12, calcium, zinc, and iron. More than half the articles included in this review reported comorbid diagnoses with ARFID such as autism spectrum disorder, anxiety disorders, and ADHD in children and ASD and anxiety disorders in adolescents. Conclusions This scoping review on ARFID’s comorbidities, growth outcomes, and nutritional status in children and adolescents reported in existing literature identified that ARFID often presents with a comorbid diagnosis, low weight, and multiple nutrient deficiencies

A BERT-ResNet Cross-Attention Fusion Network and Modality Utilization Assessment for Multimodal Sentiment Classification
This study explores the growing field of Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA), focusing on understanding how advanced fusion techniques can improve sentiment prediction in social media contexts. As platforms like X and TikTok continue to expand and facilitate sharing sentiment through digital media, there is an increasing need for neural network architectures that can accurately interpret sentiment across modalities. We implement a model using BERT for textual features and ResNet for visual features. A cross-attention fusion module aligns the modalities for joint representation. We conduct experiments on the MVSA-Single and MVSA-Multiple datasets, which contain over 5,000 and 17,000 labeled text-image pairs. Our research explores the interactions between modalities and proposes a sentiment classifier that builds upon and outperforms current baselines while quantifying the contribution of each modality through an intramodality utilization analysis
Peach Street
Peach Street connects to the universal phenomenon of losing innocence of childhood and navigating the perils and disappointments of the adult world and visualizes my ongoing experience with anxiety and what psychiatrists call derealization, the feeling of being detached from reality. Set in the same location as where I first felt immense panic, my photos create a fictional narrative where a small town, its residents, and the environment are being controlled by a force emanating from the town’s lake. The lake’s aura blinds the residents to its control, forcing them to live in a set way without personal expression or a desire to escape. The protagonist is a nameless girl, played by me, who lives on Peach Street and becomes aware of the lake’s effect and starts to reflect on why she is living this way. Because of her unreliable perception of the world, she must dissect what is real and what is illusion. As she looks closer at the details of her surroundings, she realizes that maybe her own internalized anxiety was the monster all along
Enhancing Influence Estimation in Gradient Boosted Decision Trees Through Hierarchical Analysis
This report presents a novel influence function for gradient-boosted decision trees (GBDTs), a widely-used class of predictive models. Influence estimation aims to quantify how individual training samples affect a model’s predictions, offering valuable insights for model debugging, data quality analysis, and in- terpretability. Existing influence functions for GBDTs—such as LeafInfluence, LeafInfluenceSP, and BoostIn—have shown varying degrees of success, with BoostIn currently recognized as the state-of-the-art in terms of estimation quality and computational efficiency. In this work, we propose BoostInLCA, a new influence function that extends BoostIn by incorporating information from non-leaf nodes via the Lowest Common Ancestor (LCA) path, thereby relaxing the strict leaf-node matching constraint of BoostIn. Our source code is avail- able at https://github.com/AnuragChoubey95/abcboost_influence.git. We integrate BoostInLCA into the open-source ABCBoost framework and conduct an extensive empirical evaluation comparing BoostInLCA to BoostIn across five distinct experiments on 13 real-world tabular datasets. Our results show that BoostInLCA outperforms BoostIn in 3 out of the 5 experiments, while performing comparably in the remaining case
Methionine Matters: Comparative Dynamic Insights Into Viral Inhibition of Host RNA Export via Rae1-Nup98
Over time, viruses have evolved a myriad of mechanisms to gain an advantage in the virus-host battle, such as inhibiting host mRNA export through RNA Export Factor 1 (Rae1) and Nucleoporin 98 (Nup98). This strategy employed by the Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) M protein, Kaposi’s Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) ORF10, and SARS-CoV-1/2 ORF6 disrupts antiviral production. Despite their evolutionary distance, these viral proteins share a key methionine flanked by acidic residues that competitively bind to the ssRNA binding pocket of Rae1. The VSV mutant, R1, carries an M51R mutation that disrupts viral inhibition and restores host gene export— a pattern observed in M→R mutants of SARS-CoV-1/2 ORF6 and KSHV ORF10. The underlying reasons for the methionine\u27s critical role in the inhibition and restoration of host gene export remain unclear. Through comparative molecular dynamics using ATOMDANCE, we aim to investigate the mechanistic basis of these effects. Through computational mutagenesis, we simulated the effects of an M→R mutation and viral binding using comparative molecular dynamics. Our results revealed methionine binding stabilizes the complex, while mutations amplify coordinated motion, destabilizing interactions and decreasing competition for host ssRNA. These findings highlight a shared viral mechanism and lay the groundwork for future therapeutic strategies
Realmweaver: Designing a Sandbox Simulation Game with AI-Driven Storytelling
This paper introduces Realmweaver, a sandbox simulation game concept that combines artificial intelligence (AI) and procedural generation to balance player creativity and system automation. Realmweaver empowers players to create dynamic characters, build expansive worlds, and co-author narratives through adaptive AI systems. By leveraging technologies such as natural language processing and layered procedural algorithms, the game addresses challenges in maintaining narrative coherence and balancing user agency with system autonomy. The design framework integrates intuitive interfaces, including highlighted narrative systems and interactive hover functionality, ensuring accessibility while enhancing engagement. These features enable players to navigate complex systems and shape immersive worlds with ease. This paper examines the conceptual foundation of Realmweaver, detailing its hybrid approach to character creation, procedural worldbuilding, and emergent storytelling. Beyond gaming, Realmweaver demonstrates broader applications for AI-driven tools in education, virtual reality, and creative industries. Its ability to generate adaptive environments and personalized narratives highlights its potential as a model for dynamic, user-centered content creation. Challenges such as ethical AI design, real-time adaptation, and cross-platform integration are also explored, alongside opportunities for collaborative storytelling and interactive worldbuilding. By merging innovative technologies with player-focused design, Realmweaver establishes a foundation for immersive, personalized experiences that redefine interactive entertainment. This paper concludes with a discussion of the project’s theoretical strengths, implications, and future directions for refining its conceptual model through interdisciplinary collaboration and iterative development
Informed Practices and Resources for Facilitating Community-Based Writing Groups
Community-based writing groups have been found to positively impact attendees’ well-being; however, little research examines informed practices that beginning group facilitators can utilize to facilitate groups. This study interviewed 23 professionals from across the U.S. and compiled main themes for effectively facilitating writing groups. The four themes are as follows: 1). Creating a brave, caring atmosphere is key, 2). Networking is critical, 3). There are individual, group, and organizational challenges, 4). Understanding the facilitator’s role is essential. Through an in-depth discussion of themes, the researcher encourages others to start their own writing groups in their communities
