Objective: The purpose of the study was to investigate any possible relation between maxillary labial frenulum attachment type on periodontal status and dental caries in pre14school children. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted for six months among the children who were admitted for treatment at a university clinic. The children aged between 3 to 6 years were enrolled in the study. The types of maxillary labial frenulum attachment were recorded as mucosal, gingival, papillary, and papillary penetrating types. Plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and dental status (dmft) of maxillary primary incisors were evaluated. Kruskal-Wallis and Pearson’s chi-squared tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: A total of 214 children (mean age was 4.4±0.9 years) were evaluated. The most common maxillary frenulum attachment type was the gingival type (45.8%), while the papillary penetrating type (13.1%) was the least common. The PI and GI scores in children with mucosal type frenulum were lower than in children with the gingival, papillary, and papillary penetrating types (p<0.01). The dmft scores were lower in children with mucosal type frenulum and higher in children with papillary type frenulum (p<0.01). Conclusion: Papillary and papillary penetrating types of frenulum attachments were associated with a decline in periodontal health and higher caries incidence in maxillary primary incisors

© 2023, The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Belgian Neurological Society. Objective: The investigations related to how gut microbiota changes the brain–gut axis in idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) attract growing interest. We aimed to determine whether gut microbiota is altered in PD patients and whether non-motor symptoms of PD and disease duration had any relation with alterations of microbiota profiles among patients. Methods: Microbial taxa in stool samples obtained from 84 subjects (42-PD patients and 42-healthy spouses) were analyzed using 16S rRNA amplicon-sequencing. Results: We observed a significant decrease of Firmicutes and a significant increase of Verrucomicrobiota at the phylum level. At the family level, Lactobacillaceae and Akkermansiaceae were significantly increased and Coriobacteriales Incertae Sedis were significantly decreased in the PD patients compared to their healthy spouses. Genus level comparison inferred significant increase in abundance only in Lactobacillus while the abundance of Lachnospiraceae ND3007 group, Tyzzerella, Fusicatenibacter, Eubacterium hallii group and Ruminococcus gauvreauii group were all decreased. We determined that the abundance of Prevotella genus decreased, but not significantly in PD patients. In addition, we found differences in microbiota composition between patients with and without non-motor symptoms. Conclusion: We observed differences in gut microbiota composition between PD patients and their healthy spouses. Our findings suggest that disease duration influenced microbiota composition, which in turn influenced development of non-motor symptoms in PD. This study is the first in terms of both gut microbiota research in Turkish PD patients and the probable effect of microbiota on non-motor symptoms of PD

Thyroid diseases are hormone diseases consisting of various diseases such as hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, goiter, hashimoto\"s and thyroid cancers and have recently been widely seen in many societies. For example, in endemic areas, the incidence of goiter is 15-30% of the adult population. Thyroid diseases are caused by some changes and disorders that develop in the hormones found in the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland, which is the place where these hormones are produced and secreted, is a very important gland for the body that plays a major role in the development of these diseases. Thyroid hormones called T3 and T4 are secreted from the thyroid gland. The most important task of these hormones is to regulate the body\"s metabolism; for this reason, thyroid hormones affect almost every organ. In order for these secreted hormones to be secreted at an adequate and balanced level and for the thyroid hormone to function correctly as it should, every nutrient that the body needs should be taken into the body. In addition to nutrients, thyroid hormones are also affected by stress and environmental factors. In order to keep the thyroid hormone level in balance, a healthy diet is considered the first condition. Generally, exercise, adequate and high-quality sleep, adequate water consumption, probiotic consumption, avoiding stress and toxic substances along with the Mediterranean diet are ways to avoid thyroid gland diseases. Many types of diets are being researched for the treatment of thyroid diseases. A form of nutrition that has been at the forefront recently is gluten-free nutrition. In this review study, the role of gluten-free nutrition in the treatment of thyroid diseases will be examined in the company of current literature. Keywords: Thyroid gland diseases, thyroid hormone, gluten-free nutritio

Anahtar Kelimeler: Renk seçimi; renk; aletli teknik; görsel teknikAccurate shade selection is essential for esthetic dental restorations. Visual and instrumental shade selection methods are used in dentistry. Visual shade selection is a subjective process depending on observer and environment. Therefore, there\"s been a trend towards using instrumental methods such as spectrophotometer, spectroradiometer, colorimeter, digital cameras, smart phones and related software. However, some instrumental methods have some disadvantages due to their high cost, requirement for calibration and software update. Combining both visual and instrumental methods in shade selection is recommended. In this review, basic information about color, light, optical properties of teeth and methods used in shade selection are mentioned. Keywords: Shade selection; color; instrumental method; visual metho
