Humanity's Footprint: Tracing the Devastating Effects of Climate Change Through Time
The climate is changing, there is no doubt about that.
Past and present practices are not enough, we need to
change now. This excerpt gives an adequate explanation
on the dire need for change, ?Human experience and
memory offer no good analogy for how we should
think of those thresholds, but, as with world wars or
recurrences of cancer, you don?t want to even see one.

their collapse, 400 million more people will suffer from
water scarcity, major cities in the equatorial band of the
planet will become unlivable, and even in the northern
latitudes heat waves will kill thousands each summer.
There will be thirty-two times as many extreme heat
waves in India, and each would last five times as long,
exposing ninety-three times more people. This is our
best-case scenario? (David Wallace-Wells, 2019). The
paragraph continues to lay out each degree and the
effects it will have and with each degree living on earth
gets increasingly more challenging.
These challenges make climate change a topic that a lot
of people struggle to make the much needed changes
or wrap their heads around the severity. Climate change
is many different factors wrapped up into a huge issue,
it?s also not right in front of our faces. If you come
across a large puddle, you make a quick decision, jump
over the puddle, walk around or step in the puddle.
This is a threat that is right in front of us whereas the
changes we see as an effect of climate change are slow
moving and do not always pop right in front of our
faces.
These challenges will be laid out and addressed through
a design project forced to acknowledge the effects
of climate change, the ever changing earth, and the
people who habitat the earth
The Reconnection of Nature and Health
Healthcare is an ever-changing field and often
a field of uncertainty of what will be around the
next corner. As of recent we have faced new
challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic
where the medical field had to shift of this virus
that was completely unknown to the world. We, as
a society, are increasingly aging and urbanizing.
Even among staff there are shortages, efficiency
problems among departments, and the need
for better work environments. Thus, becoming
the premise for this thesis project which dives
into how circulation can improve movement
and efficiency with patients and professionals.
Which leads to the question of ?How does
implementing biophilia in architecture
improve the well-being and way-finding
of those who are using the facilities??
The focus of this thesis is to bring these natural
forces back into built environments so we can
live healthier as a society
A Review of the Effects of Kinesio Tape Fascial Correction Technique of the Iliotibial Band Relating to Myofascial Pain Syndrome
This paper reviewed the effects of Kinesio Taping? on pain pressure threshold (PPT) of trigger points (TrPs) within the iliotibial band (ITB). The condition known as myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a chronic pain disorder where pressure or sensitive points in muscle tissue causes localized or referred pain. This disorder typically manifests chronically due to an overuse or overtraining mechanism. MPS has been identified in individuals of all ages, body types, and activity level. However, the population with the highest reported prevalence is individuals participating in moderate or higher levels of physical activity. Kinesio Taping? fascial correction technique claims an effective intervention for MPS and associated TrPs. The outcome measure most frequently reported to have statistically significant positive correlation to Kinesio Taping? treatment is patient perceived pain. Kinesio Taping? studies vary greatly in subject population characteristics, study design, and methodology. Further research is required for proper clinical recommendations to be made
The B-Cell Role in Autoimmunity
This review is focused on B-cell?s role in autoimmunity and was conducted by reading current papers across a variety of journals and compiling the information learned in this process. Specifically, this review paper encompasses an analysis of what autoimmune diseases are, as well as some of the characteristics of autoimmune diseases the introduction section of this paper serves as a crash course on B-cell. The disease write-up is where autoimmune diseases that are affected and mediated by B-cells, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, and Chron?s disease, are explored. The next section will compare the mechanisms behind each of the diseases to explain how B-cells can cause a large variety of symptoms as well as highlight what symptoms overlap and why. Treatment options and current research are covered throughout this paper to display an understanding of how these diseases are combated

Hospice care provides empathetic care for people
in the last phases of terminal illness, so that they may
live as fully and comfortably as possible.
Palliative care in combination with hospice care
is intended to help patients be comfortable while
allowing them to enjoy the last stage of life.
Physical healing can be impacted by the mental
healing space, as well as the surrounding wellness
space. Research methods such as case studies and
other methods will be used to answer a broad question,
how or why does nature create a dynamic healing
space? Architecture can also impact mental healing.

Investigation of a Novel Foliar Disease on Maackia amurensis in North Dakota and Its Subsequent Survey
A new, undescribed pathogen was observed on Maackia amurensis (Amur maackia or Chinese yellow wood) trees in Fargo, North Dakota, over the course of four growing seasons from 2016 to 2020. Affected trees showed visual signs of necrotic lesions ringed with a yellow halo of various sizes on leaves which began in midsummer and persisted into the fall. Diseased material was collected in October 2020, from which single spore isolations were taken. After a third-party DNA analysis, the causal agent was tentatively identified as an Alternaria species. Curious about the full extent of the host and fungal pathogen, a survey was designed and distributed to horticulture industry professionals, botanical gardens, and arboreta in September 2021. The survey results showed where M. amurensis, its cultivars, and related species were growing and where similar symptoms were observed in other regions throughout the United States
Exceptional Universal Design: Designing for People With Exceptionalities
The purpose of this study is to find and realize solutions to the lack of inclusion of
People with exceptionalities. To create interaction between streetscapes, parks,
naturalistic landscapes, and people with exceptionalities. People with exceptionalities
include people with a range of disabilities such as blindness, autism, and cerebral
palsy. ADA compliance has gone a long way in giving opportunity of access
to people with exceptionalities. These collective groups of people may have
access to streetscapes, and parks, but the interactions in these spaces are slim to
none. People with exceptionalities deserve the opportunity to interact with the
surroundings as all other people do. The research of this Thesis study is based on not
only case studies, scholarly articles and journals, but also interviewing people with
exceptionalities and their acquaintances. This methodology allows the personal
perspectives of the people that will use these spaces. The resulting research is defined
in the adaptive design of different streetscapes, parks, and naturalistic landscapes.
These findings prove as precedent of more inclusive and interactive landscape
designs to come
Restoring Forgotten Land: Degraded Land Restoration
This thesis will explore the potential of using phytoremediation
techniques to reduce PM2.5 pollution in Detroit. The city of Detroit has
a long history of industrialization and, as a result, faces significant air
pollution challenges. PM2.5 pollution, in particular, has been linked to
numerous health problems, including heart and lung diseases.
Phytoremediation offers a promising solution to this problem, using
plants and their associated microorganisms to remove pollutants from
the air and soil. This thesis also includes a design proposal for a
community center at the abandoned Packard Plant in Detroit. The
design incorporates phytoremediation elements, such as phyto walks
and integrated green roof gardens. These elements help to improve air
quality and provide aesthetic and functional benefits to the community
center. Utilizing various elements of the existing building, this addition
will provide structural integrity improvements to the existing building.
This thesis will provide new insights into the potential of
phytoremediation to reduce PM2.5 pollution in urban environments,
with a focus on the city of Detroit. The research and design proposal
offer valuable information for landscape architects and urban planners
working to address air pollution in Detroit and other cities

Designing a Holistic Environment for Athletic Performance
The goal of this research is to recenter the needs of the athlete when it comes to the design of training facilities and question how this form of architecture can be optimized. To continue to increase the effectiveness and value of architecture, new approaches must be taken in how spaces are designed. By looking into other spheres of knowledge such as mental wellness and sports psychology, more information is gained that can influence a new design protocol that be implemented into this building type. These solutions will provide incentives for these massive teams and organizations to seek an architect that is well versed in this area of design. Athletes will have a higher likelihood of staying where their needs are prioritized and feeling valued can help with overall wellness and performance. This can demonstrate how something seemingly insignificant such as a building?s design in relation to athletic performance can cause a chain reaction that provides people with their desired outcome of success
