Developing a Local Wisdom-Based Digital Resource for English for Tourism in Vocational High Schools in Banjarmasin
Tourism graduates from various SMKs in South Kalimantan are expected to be able to become initiators of tourism development both at the regional and national levels and be able to become a driving force for tourism actors in building economic competitiveness through the tourism sector. English as an international language is needed by the community, especially for Indonesian tourism. As one of the required subjects taught in vocational high schools, the problems arises in teaching English because there are no attractive and interesting learning resources for teachers and students about teaching English specifically for tourism majors in vocational high schools in Banjarmasin. Teachers in some schools in Banjarmasin, especially in wetland areas, have limited access to information on teaching English for Tourism. In relation to the university policy and seeing the importance of achieving teaching and learning objectives as well as the lack of suitable digital learning resources for teaching English for tourism students, especially those located in wetland areas, this research aimed to produce digital learning resources in the form of a website which is based on local wisdom for vocational high school students. This research applied a Research and Development design because it aimed to develop a product by paying attention to the needs analysis. It is expected that the results of this research can not only improve students' academic performance but also facilitate teachers to conduct effective and meaningful teaching in wetland areas
Difficult Aspects of Reading Comprehension Faced by Non-English Department of Vocational Students
Understanding and interpreting text is a fundamental skill for students across disciplines, not limited to those in the English Department. Proficiency in reading comprehension not only enhances vocabulary and writing abilities but also fosters overall academic growth. This research endeavors to pinpoint the primary challenges encountered by first-semester students at Politeknik Negeri Banjarmasin in comprehending written material. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach, the study aims to identify the most daunting aspects of reading comprehension. A reading comprehension assessment comprising 40 multiple-choice questions, administered via Google Form, was utilized to gather data. Analysis revealed that students encounter significant hurdles in this domain. Across all question types, spanning the five facets of reading comprehension, difficulty levels were consistently high. Particularly, questions assessing the determination of the main idea posed the greatest challenge, with 60% of students struggling in this area, followed by making inferences (44%), locating references (41%), understanding vocabulary (36%), and grasping detailed information (34%). Notably, identifying the main idea emerged as the most formidable task, whereas discerning detailed information proved relatively less challenging. These findings serve to highlight areas for improvement in understanding main ideas and inform strategies aimed at enhancing comprehension skills
Fostering Creative Writing through Poetry in EFL Classroom
This study was conducted to examine how the ELT teacher implements creative writing through poetry in the ELT classroom during pandemic and to describe how the students express their emotions through tone of poetry in their creative writing. It is due to the existence of creative writing in language teaching and learning practice is significant to gaining students’ creativity and thinking. One of them is writing poetry. However, few literatures discussed on the method used by teachers through writing poems as well as the concern for emotion and tone embedded in students’ writing products. This study used qualitative descriptive with Indonesian EFL university students of the non-English department at an Islamic University in Indonesia as the participants. The result shows that teachers use student-centered methods to implement creative writing through poetry in the classroom during the global COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting was organized using Zoom Meeting with performing Warm-Up, Lead-In (Creation of Poem and Reading the Poem), and Follow-up. In addition, it was also found that the student’s creative works posted on Instagram were based on the negative variations of poetry tone including threatening, painful, and discouraged. The study underscores the pedagogical efficacy of student-centered creative writing in ELT, highlighting its role in enhancing emotional intelligence and validating the integration of digital platforms for remote learning. Users’ perceptions on Poly.AI: A qualitative study into students’ and teacher’s experiences
As artificial intelligence (AI) is being used more and more, thus in order to prevent exploitation, we need to be able to use and deploy it as efficiently as possible. An artificial intelligence program called a chatbot can mimics human speech and writing. Chatbots may be integrated into the field of education when utilized properly by educators and students. This study investigate the perception of teachers and students of MAN 1 Samarinda of the Integration of Poly.AI in educational practices. The purpose of this study is to investigate how high school teacher and students perceive Poly.AI in education. This study employs a Qualitative approach with in-depth interview as its research instrument. The obtained data is analyzed using thematical coding to discover the theme and topic related to answer the researchers question, such as how teacher and students precieve Poly.AI in terms of usability, effectiveness, learning experience, and what challenges they encounterd while using Ploy.AI during educational practices. The research is expected to contribute to the on going disccusion of how AI in general could affect and improved the educational field in digital era. In general the integration of Poly.AI has been well percieved by teachers and students in MAN1 Samarinda and proven to be an effective and entertaining study and teaching tools, as it could assist teacher deliver role-play related topics and help students improved them self in English
Keterlibatan Orang Tua Dalam Perkembangan Mental Anak Dengan Rasa Syukur Menurut Psikologi Islam
Setiap orang tua mengingikan anaknya menjadi orang yang berkepribadian yang baik,sikap mental yang sehat serta akhlak yang terpuji. Orang tua sebagai pembentuk pribadi yang pertamadalam kehidupan anak,dan harus menjadi teladan yang baik bagi anak-anaknya. Kepribadian orangtua,merupakan unsure-unsur pendidikan yang secara tidak langsung akan masuk kedalam pribadianak yang sedang tumbuh.
Pola asuh orang tua merupakan keseluruhan interaksi antara orang tua dengan anak, dimanaorang tua bermaksud menstimulasi anaknya dengan mengubah tingkah laku,pengetahuan serta nilai-nilai yang dianggap paling tepat oleh orang tua,agar anak dapat mandiri,tumbuh dan berkembangsecara sehat dan optimal. Pola asuh yang diterapkan pada anak secara tidak langsiung akan berdampak kepada perkembangan yang dialami anak.kesalahan dalam pemilihan dan penerapan polaasuh pada anak dapat berakibat kepada kondisi mental anak.
Orang tua dan pola asuh memiliki peranyang besar dalam menanamkan dasar keperibadian yang ikut menentukan corak dan gambarankeperibadian seseorang setelah dewasa kelak. Cara dan pola tersebut tentu akan berbeda antara satukeluarga dengan keluarga yang lainnya. Dalam kegiatan memberikan asuhan ini,orang tua akanmemberikan perhatian,peraturan,disiplin,hadiah dan hukuman, serta tanggapan terhadap keinginananaknya. Gambaran tersebut menjadi alas an untuk melihat bagaiman pola asuh yang diberikan orangtua kepada anak mereka yang mengalami gangguan kesehatan mental. Religiusitas Dan Resiliensi Akademik Mahasiswa Muslim Yogyakarta
Resiliensi akademik merupakan kemampuan seseorang dalam menghadapi berbagai permasalahan yang ada dalam bidang pendidikan. Mahasiswa dengan tingkat resiliensi akademik yang baik dapat bertahan dalam berbagai kondisi sulit, mampu beradaptasi yang bersumber dari keterpurukan serta mengatasi berbagai tekanan akademik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan antara religiusitas dan resiliensi akademik pada mahasiswa beragama Islam di Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua variabel yaitu religiusitas sebagai variabel bebas dan resiliensi akademik sebagai variabel tergantung. Subjek pada penelitian ini berjumlah 112 mahasiswa aktif yang berasal dari bermacam kampus dan program studi yang berada di Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode korelasi dengan teknik purposive sampling karena kami telah memberikan kriteria pada penelitian ini yaitu mahasiswa yang beragama islam. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis dengan korelasi product moment Pearson dengan bantuan program Jamovi dan SPSS. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya hubungan positif antara religiusitas dan resiliensi akademik pada mahasiswa muslim di Yogyakarta
PURCHASING DECISION ON MUSLIM FASHION IN TERMS OF BRAND IMAGE, BRAND AWARENESS, PRICE, AND CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENTS
Concerning clothing and fashion, both the Qur'an and hadith emphasize maintaining modesty, this is reflected in many common elements of Muslim clothing even with diverse interpretations of 'modesty' among Muslims around the world. Muslim clothing fashion trends increasingly look vibrant and easy to use. Not only used during the Eid feast but also used for daily activities Indonesia occupies the third position in global modest fashion consumption of Muslim fashion in Indonesia. Gallery Maliqa which is located at Bandung is a local brand that complements Indonesian Muslim women with various types of clothing that always follow the trend, with its flagship product is the scarf. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Brand Image, Brand Awareness, Price, Celebrity Endorsement on purchasing decisions at Small Medium Enterprise Gallery Maliqa. Quantitative research method with descriptive approach and verification using multiple linear regression. The number of respondents is 100 Muslim women with purposive sampling technique. The results showed that brand image did not affect purchasing decisions, while brand awareness, price, and celebrity endorsements affected purchasing decisions for Muslim Maliqa products
Association Analysis of Complications, Number of Drugs, and Medication Adherence in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis (HD) in its implementation is reported to cause complications. Complications may cause the patients to receive >3 types of drugs and decrease their medication adherence. This study aimed to analyze the association between the number of complications and the number of drugs, and the association between the number of drugs with medication adherence in End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients. This research was conducted at the private hospital Denpasar in March-May 2021 with a cross-sectional design involving 93 respondents. The purposive sampling technique was used according to inclusion criteria (ESRD patients with complications, undergoing HD at least twice a week, signing informed consent) and exclusion criteria (having poor or unstable health, unable to communicate well). The research instrument used was a questionnaire (ESRD-AQ). The Mann-Whitney test and Kendall tau-b test were used to analyze the association in this study. The results showed that the majority of patients were <65 years old (83.9%), male (66.7%), 35.5% high school education, still working (51.6%), and long of diagnosed with ESRD <5 years (77%). The average patient had ≥2 complications (81.72%) and 80.64% received 1-6 types of drugs with high levels of medication adherence (67.74%). There was an association between the number of complications and the number of drugs (p=0.026) and the association between the number of drugs and medication adherence (p=0.023) with a weak correlation (r=-0,227). This indicates that complications can affect the number of drugs consumed and indirectly also affect the medication adherence of ESRD patients
Analysis of Self Efficacy and Motivation as Contributing Factors in Second Language Acquisition: A Literature Review
Several factors are thought to influence second language acquisition (SLA). The concepts of motivation and self-efficacy are frequently linked to SLA success. In terms of linguistic outcomes, motivation is a significant contributor, whereas self-efficacy is a component of social, metacognitive, and cognitive strategies. Students with varying levels of motivation and self-efficacy attribute diverse reasons for their success and failure in learning a second language, so these elements are crucial in determining one's level of success in learning a second language. The purpose of this study is to analyze self-efficacy and motivation as contributing factors to second language acquisition. This paper gathered and reviewed journal articles on motivation and self-efficacy in second language acquisition from a variety of journals in the field using thematic analysis. The method for this study uses a literature review in order to demonstrate the contribution of the factors self-efficacy and motivations to second language acquisition. It is expected that self-efficacy and motivation improve students' learning performance in a variety of language skills. The implications of this study benefit language teachers by helping learners create positive beliefs about themselves and improve their confidence about their abilities to learn a second language
The Influence of Socialization and Making Ovitraps to Improve PKK Women's Knowledge of Dengue Prevention With Wolbachia
Dengue fever presents a critical health challenge in Semarang City, marked by a notable increase in cases and fatalities in recent years. Bandarharjo Subdistrict, located along the coast, is particularly vulnerable due to its susceptibility to high tides, which create stagnant water breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, primary vectors of dengue. This study aimed to enhance dengue prevention knowledge among PKK women through Wolbachia-based strategies and ovitrap-making practice. This research was conducted in May 2024 and used a quasi-experimental design with 37 married women participating in pretest-posttest assessments. Results indicated a significant improvement in knowledge scores post-intervention (p-value < 0.001) among PKK women. The study highlights the urgent need for targeted community health interventions amidst rising dengue cases, underscoring the role of education and practical training in mitigating disease transmission. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to assess the sustainability and broader public health impacts of Wolbachia-based interventions in endemic regions
