    No full text
English for Tourism in tourism education institutions should equip students with English skills relevant to their academic and workplace settings. In Central Kalimantan, the tourism students must also have the knowledge of local tourism. Unfortunately, no English for Tourism book currently includes relevant local content. To address this gap, a needs analysis was conducted to explore the necessary language skills, topics, and local content to be incorporated into English for Tourism materials for these students. This research employed both quantitative and qualitative methods, utilizing a questionnaire and a focused-group interview. This research has shown a number of findings. It was revealed that the students prioritize speaking, listening and vocabulary, followed by other skills and components. They also need the materials that cover a range of topics, including general and local tourism content. Tour guiding, describing tourist spots, and tourism-related jobs were among the preferred essential topics. Last, the local content should encompass historical and cultural sites, natural tourism spots in Central Kalimantan, Dayak cultural and arts performances, Dayak traditions, as well as animal conservation and ecotourism. Tailoring local content into English for Tourism materials will better facilitate the students improving their English competence ready to fit the actual demand of the tourism sector in Central Kalimantan

Lesson planning is an integral aspect in the knowledge and training of EFL teachers, providing a framework for effective classroom instruction. Consequently, this research aimed to describe EFL preservice teachers' knowledge on lesson plan designing during their practicum, identifying strengths and weaknesses. For this purpose, the qualitative method and a case study approach were employed, analyzing lesson plans, field notes, and reflective journals of four preservice teachers doing their practicum in the teacher education program at Universidad Nacional de Loja. Content analysis was used to evaluate the components of 16 lesson plans through a rubric and field notes. Findings revealed that lesson objectives were clear and aligned with Bloom's Taxonomy, although the ABCD format was not consistently implemented. Practice activities aimed to strengthen language skills but sometimes lacked diversity. Instructional materials were created to encourage participation. Assessment tasks showed high alignment with lesson objectives, and summative assessment was the type mostly used by preservice teachers. Various feedback types, including informal, positive and self-generated were identified. These insights offer valuable implications for refining preservice teacher training and enriching classroom experiences

Hydroponic agriculture is a soilless plant cultivation method that is becoming increasingly popular in the modern era. However, hydroponic systems require strict monitoring of environmental parameters, especially temperature and pH, to ensure optimal plant growth. This research aims to design and build a temperature and pH monitoring system for hydroponic plants based on the Internet of Things (IoT) using a NodeMCU ESP-8266 microcontroller. The developed system consists of a DS18B20 temperature sensor, a pH sensor, a NodeMCU ESP-8266 microcontroller, and the ThingSpeak IoT platform. These sensors are used to measure the temperature and pH of the hydroponic nutrient solution in real-time. The collected data is then sent to the ThingSpeak platform via the WiFi connection integrated into the NodeMCU ESP-8266. The implementation of this system is expected to assist hydroponic farmers in efficiently monitoring and controlling their plants' environmental conditions, thereby increasing productivity and harvest quality. Further research can be conducted to integrate more parameters and develop automatic control systems based on the collected data

Classroom interaction plays an important role in the teaching and learning process. It is because it involves the interaction between teacher, student and student-student in which they influence each other in the classroom interaction. It is also said that classroom interaction gives a chance to ask, to guess, to think even to the course material in order to make interaction between the teacher and students their selves in the classroom. This research is aimed to analyze the classroom interaction by using FIACS. This research is included as a quantitative content analysis design. This research involves a teacher and the 2nd semester students of STKIP Terang Bangsa. The observation is employed in this research as the method of collecting data. After that, the data would be calculated by using a formula. The results show that the Teacher Initiated category is the highest dominant in the classroom interaction. It has 3.422 or 95,50% out of 3.583 interactions in the classroom. Then, the Student-Initiated category has 161 or 4,50% of the total. Lastly, the Student-student initiated category has no interactions. Due to the limitations of the research, the researcher suggests that future research on this topic should involve more participants in interacting not only teacher to student but student to student, so the conclusion can be drawn more valid

Connectivism as a deterrent pedagogical approach for blind students at Historically Disadvantaged Institutions

The educational domain, like other spheres of human endeavour, was impelled to improvise and undergo unforeseen transitions because of covid19.  These transitions, among other things, affected teaching and learning processes that had to shift from physical to online mode. Dissimilar to traditional learning approaches such as cognitivism and constructivism which emphasise the cruciality of learning context, connectivism is underpinned by the notion that learning is disseminated through networks using diverse virtual learning platforms. In the case of blind students, these learning platforms require up-to-date technologies for accessibility purposes. The availability of updated technologies is an outstanding matter in most Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDI) of higher learning. This disadvantages the affected students in terms of academic progression. Thus, this study aims to divulge the challenges faced by blind students at HDI of higher learning through the Connectivism paradigm. A qualitative descriptive design will undergird the study. Five blind students from HDI will be purposively sampled and interviewed. The findings will be presented and analysed through Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA), and viable recommendations will be made

Review of implementation of rigid pavemant cement clamping work on the reconstruction of the road access to Tol Palaran

The East Kalimantan Provincial Government carried out reconstruction work on the Palaran Toll access road (Palaran Main Stadium). This work is very strategic considering that the route is one of the accesses to national vital objects (obvitnas) of the Samarinda - Balikpapan Toll Road. In addition to providing comfort for road users, the path will be a storefront for Samarinda City. This path will be an access in and out of and to the Palaran Toll Gate. Previously, the two-lane road section was only used for one lane on the right side of the Palaran Main Stadium. The lane was partially destroyed, scrubbed and only became a parking office for trucks and containers. But considering that this road is a provincial road, the existing road conditions are considered unable to accommodate the capacity of vehicles going through this route. So it is necessary to rebuild and improve roads on the East Kalimantan Main Stadium Road Section at Sta. 1+644 – Sta. 3+405 to facilitate economic traffic and also avoid traffic accidents in the area. The methods used to obtain data are direct observation methods of activities that occur in the field and secondary data collection in the form of test result data, and work plan drawings. The purpose of writing this article is to find out the stages of implementation and supervision of cement concrete pavement road work, especially in ironing work. Palaran Toll Access Road Reconstruction Project using iron 32 mm for dowel rods with a length of 450 mm and a distance of 300 mm, iron                            16 mm for tie bars with a length of 700 mm and a distance of 750 mm, as well as iron                                                                                                               12 mm for dowel fulcrum reinforcement and tie bar
