Introduction: Assessment is a critical process undertaken in education to determine the level of learners’ acquisition of desired knowledge, skills and values. The use of rubrics is one of the recommended assessment tools. Educational seminars is a course facilitated by all departmental lecturers therefore, objectivity in assessment is a challenge. However, there is limited documented evidence of lecturers’ and students’ perceptions on the use of the assessment rubric in undergraduate educational seminars course at Egerton University. Methodology: The study employed cross-sectional survey research design. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 281 fourth year Bachelor of Education students, while 18 lecturers were purposively selected. Lecturer’s Perceptions on Assessment Rubric Questionnaire (LPARQ) and Student’s Perceptions on Assessment Rubric Questionnaire (SPARQ) were used to collect data from the lecturers and students respectively. The instruments were validated and pilot tested, yielding a reliability of 0.86 for LPARQ and 0.74 for SPARQ. Results: The findings revealed that though lecturers use an already prepared rubric, they have limited knowledge and skills on how to develop or evaluate an already prepared one for its appropriateness. Students indicated that they are provided with a rubric at the start of the course, however, they perceived that the scoring was not objective which points to shortcomings in the rubric provided. Recommendation: The study recommends equipping of lecturers with the requisite knowledge and skills on how to develop rubrics and evaluate already prepared ones. This will in turn benefit their learners before they embark on their assigned tasks
