Vitamin E and Immune System: A Protective Nutrient Against Influenza and COVID-19 in Elderly Humans
Older adults have relatively weak immune and antioxidant systems and thus, are more vulnerable to viral infections especially respiratory tract infections as compared to younger adults. Recent reports of high mortality rate due to the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the elderly population are suggestive that perhaps a compromised antioxidant status might be contributing to increased virulence in elderly people. Since vitamin E insufficiency is common in old age, it is conceivable that low vitamin E status could be among the factors causing high mortality in elderly people suffering from influenza and COVID-19 infections. Recent studies have shown an immune-boosting role of supplemental vitamin E along with other antioxidants against respiratory tract viral infections. Therefore, the objective of this review is to examine and discuss the data pertaining to the effects of vitamin E on boosting the immune response against respiratory tract viral infections such as influenza and COVID-19 in elderly individuals
The Effectiveness of Coaches’ Manuals for Teaching Professionalism in Problem Based Learning
The coaching is essential for elementary teaching and is even more compelling when applied to a field as complex as medicine. In any structured training program, there is a need for some instruc-tional material and references. These materials can be converted in the form of manuals as tools to be used for the facilitation of the process of teaching and learning. Therefore, this survey was de-signed to assess the perception of the coaches as regards the effectiveness of the coaches’ manual. A one-day workshop was conducted which involved brainstorming and different modalities of coaching in relationship with teaching professionalism and the effectiveness of the coaches’ manual were discussed. Results showed that the coaches who had no previous experience or training in coaching had benefited from the coaches’ manual. Sub-specialty of the faculty was found to have a significant (<0.05) effect on the use of manuals
Ileocolic Anastomotic Site Recurrence
Colorectal cancer is associated with high mortality. 50% of the patients tend to develop recurrence even after curative treatment. Most of the recurrences are found in the first three years and a few in five years. Early detection of recurrence is important to improve a patient’s survival. Many follow-up plans have been devised for surveillance. Very scant evidence is available in the literature for palliative treatment by chemotherapy of recurrent bowel adenocarcinoma. In advanced cases of recurrence at Ileocolic anastomosis in which medical treatment has failed ileocolic resection is indicated. There is 70% anastomotic recurrence after ileocolic resection.
We are reporting a case of a 47-year-old Asian female who had recurrent colorectal anastomotic site adenocarcinoma and developed peritoneal metastasis. She underwent palliative surgery followed by chemotherapy and will be under observation

Sibling test - A Distinct Diagnostic Approach for Fanconi Anemia in a Patient with Negative Chromosomal Breakage Analysis
Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare form of an inherited disorder that mainly results in aplastic anemia. In our case, a three-year-old female child presented with recurrent episodes of fever and persistent pancytopenia refractory to any treatment. The chromosomal breakage analysis (CBA) with mitomycin C and solid staining was done, which showed no chromosomal breakage. Considering negative results due to mosaicism, her younger brother's CBA was performed, which showed a positive result. Therefore, based on clinical features, persistent cytopenia, and the younger siblings' CBA, both children were diagnosed with FA
