Ingen samkönad straffeffekt observerades i materialet.
Presence without Pressure : The School Dog in Education
The purpose of this essay was to understand school dogs as a resource in schools. This understanding was created by investigating dog handlers' experiences of how school dogs can be used as a pedagogical resource and what factors influence schools' choices to use school dogs in school activities. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were used to obtain the study's material. The interviews were conducted with dog handlers around Sweden who, together with their dog, work with students in school. The study's results show that committed educators with trained school dogs can function as a pedagogical resource for students' learning and reading skills, motivation and school attendance, self-esteem and emotional well-being, social interaction and the level of oxytocin
Diverging Paths to Compliance: A Comparative Analysis of the EU Public Procurement Directive 2014/24/EU in Estonia and Hungary
This thesis investigates the divergence in legal and practical compliance with Directive 2014/24/EU on public procurement in Estonia and Hungary. Using Europeanization as an analytical framework, it explores how administrative capacity, political will, and informal institutions affect national procurement systems and shape compliance with EU procurement rules. Through a qualitative comparative case study, the analysis finds that while both countries have formally transposed the directive, Estonia demonstrates stronger practical compliance due to digital transparency and a transparent rules-based administrative culture. On the other hand, Hungary shows signs of politicized procurement and shallow enforcement. The findings highlight how domestic factors condition EU rule compliance beyond formal legal alignment

Between Multiculturalism and Assimilation : A Comparative Study of Middle Eastern Migrants' Sense of Belonging and National Identity in Sweden and Denmark
This thesis explores how Middle Eastern migrants in Sweden and Denmark perceive their national identity and sense of belonging. Drawing on 22 semi-structured qualitative interviews, the study applies a constructivist and interpretive approach to analyzing migrants’ emotional, social, and cultural experiences. Thematic analysis is used to examine how integration policies, societal recognition, and everyday interactions shape feelings of inclusion and exclusion. The discussion is guided by three theoretical perspectives: Hagerty et al.’s Sense of Belonging Theory, Tajfel’s Social Identity Theory, and Berry’s Acculturation Model. The findings reveal that while Sweden provides strong institutional support, migrants often describe their belonging as conditional or emotionally distant. In contrast, Denmark’s more demanding integration framework appears to offer stronger emotional inclusion and space for hybrid identity formation. The study concludes that belonging and identity are not determined by legal status alone, but are shaped by how migrants are received, recognized, and allowed to participate socially

Who Decides? Abortion and Reproductive Rights Between Global Norms and National Power : International Institutional Norm Diffusion Mechanisms and Domestic Politics in Shaping Abortion and Reproductive Rights in Poland and the U.S
This thesis explores how international institutions such as the EU and the UN attempt to shape national policies on abortion and reproductive rights through norm diffusion. It analyzes how domestic ideological, institutional, and political contexts influence the adaptation, reception, or resistance to these global norms. The usage of a comparative case study of Poland and the U.S., the study draws on institutionalist and constructivist theories, more specifically liberal institutionalism and norm diffusion theory, to analyze the interaction between global governance and domestic power structures. With a qualitative content analysis, ideological content analysis, and ideological critique to analyze legal texts, policy documents, and discourse to identify how religious conservatism, political polarization, and nationalist ideologies influence the rejection or reinterpretation of global norms. The findings suggest that norm diffusion is neither linear nor automatic but rather contested and shaped by deep-rooted domestic ideologies and institutional resistance. This research paper contributes to understanding how the limits and possibilities of international norm influence, especially regarding abortion and reproductive rights, as well as highlighting the importance of contextual factors in shaping the policy outcomes
From Creator to Curator Exploring AI’s Impact on Web Designers’ Professional Practices : A Case Study in the Öresund Region
As artificial intelligence (AI) tools become increasingly embedded into digital workflows, theirimpact on the web design profession is both practical and deeply cultural. This study exploreshow web designers and developers in the Öresund Region experience, adapt and incorporate AIinto their daily work. Through a qualitative approach, combining interviews with professionalsand a content analysis of job listings, the research provides insights into how AI influences bothindividual workflows and broader field expectations. Using Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of Habitus, the thesis highlights how social, cultural, and institutional contexts shape the way professionalsengage with AI, revealing both opportunities and tensions in this ongoing transformation. Whilesome embrace AI as a powerful assistant, others remain wary of its implications on expertise andlegitimacy. By situating AI adoption within a sociological framework, this study offers a morelayered understanding of digital transformation, highlighting not only technological innovationbut also the human experiences, behaviours and adaptations that drive and define it
Shaping African Education : A Comparative Analysis of Foreign Influence and Pan-African Reflection in Ethiopia and Ghana
This thesis examines the influence of the US and China on African education systems through a comparative case study of Ethiopia and Ghana. By drawing on policy transfer theory, dependency theory, and postcolonial theory particularly Pan-Africanism, it explores how education policies and structures reflect foreign engagement and the extent to which African agency and Pan-Africanism shape national education. The study constructs and analyses seven indicators including language of instruction, textbook authorship, ministerial backgrounds, funding sources, and foreign institutional presence, to examine foreign influence through dependency or self-reliance. Ethiopia and Ghana are selected using a most-different systems design due to their distinct colonial histories and diplomatic relations. The findings indicate that while both countries reflect elements of dependency and policy transfer aligned with the US and China, there are also signs of efforts toward educational sovereignty and self-reliance. This research contributes to the literature on foreign influence, African agency, and global power dynamics in education by highlighting the complex relations between foreign influence and local agency in shaping Africa’s educational sector
