AI-BI: A survey of AI-Assisted features in Business Intelligence : A qualitative study on the use and experiences of artificial intelligence in Business Intelligence systems
As artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into Business Intelligence (BI) tools, there is a growing need to understand how these features are actually used and experienced by professionals. This study examines AI assisted functionalities in two leading BI platforms, Qlik's Insight Advisor and Power BI’s Q&A, with the aim of analyzing their usability, perceived usefulness, and trust from a user perspective. Using a qualitative method based on semi structured interviews with nine BI users, the study applies a combination of the Task Technology Fit (TTF) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) frameworks to analyze how well the technology supports users' tasks and needs. The results show that while the AI features are perceived as enabling, they are also limited by various underlying factors. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the practical challenges involved in implementing AI in decision support tools and offers insights that can be used to further develop user centered BI solutions.
Crisis management: maritime oil spills
Oil spills have a negative impact on the marine ecosystems and the animals that live in the sea. In the case of an unintentional oil spill it is important to apply quick and effective interventions. In this study a qualitative method was applied, to provide a greater understanding and insight how the environmental rescue work in the event of a maritime oil spill is handled, but also to explore the respondents perceptions and experiences in the subject. Five people with various connections to oil spills have been interviewed, to provide a broader perspective in the area. Academic literature within the subject have contributed insights and wider understandings to the theoretical problems that exist in today's environmental rescue work. Furthermore the academic literature has also contributed with improvement suggestions. The purpose of this study was to investigate what current difficulties that can be identified, and to find suggestions for improvements to future environmental rescue efforts. The study’s three research questions were: “What current difficulties can be identified in crisis management of oil spills?”, “What suggestions for improvement of environmental rescue work can be identified by the study’s respondents?” and “How is crisis management of oil spills affected by communication and cooperation between different actors?”. After an analysis of the empirical material and the academic literature, answers were found. Lack of communication and cooperation, unclear division of responsibilities, insufficient knowledge and resources and problems with external factors such as weather conditions, were the challenging factors that were found. The improvement suggestions that were found was the use of technology such as drones that are not affected by the weather, modeling that calculates the amount of spilled oil and to involve more actors with knowledge and competence in the area. Finally, it was also shown that good communication and cooperation results in more effective interventions. Therefore both communication and cooperation are two important components for a well-functioning environmental rescue work
Development of a Wireshark Plugin for Analyzing Traffic of a Proprietary Industrial Automation Protocol
In industrial automation, the ability to analyze and troubleshoot proprietary communication protocols is critical for ensuring system reliability and efficiency. This thesis addresses the lack of protocol analysis tooling for ABB’s proprietary Inter-Application Communication (IAC) protocol, which is used within the ABB Ability System 800xA. As Wireshark, a widely adopted network packet analysis tool, does not offer native support for the IAC protocol, manual interpretation of raw UDP data has previously been required, leading to inefficiencies and increased risk of human error. This work presents the design, implementation and evaluation of a custom Wireshark dissector written in Lua, capable of parsing and visualizing IAC traffic. The project followed the Design Science Research Methodology by Peffers et al., including iterative prototyping, testing with real-world network captures and interviews with protocol developers, engineers and customer support personnel at ABB. The artifact was developed under the constraints of lacking public documentation, relying only on partial internal documentation and required significant reverse engineering of source code with expert guidance. The results demonstrate that even proprietary, partially documented protocols can be effectively supported with Wireshark through hands-on experimentation, iterative prototyping, reverse engineering efforts, expert feedback and collaborative development practices. The dissector significantly improved IAC traffic analysis by making packet content more accessible, reducing analysis time and minimizing errors. In addition to its practical value for ABB, the thesis contributes generalizable strategies and knowledge for developing protocol dissectors under similar industrial conditions
Uppmärksamhetsanalys i en Mixed Reality-miljö
This thesis explores how user attention in mixed reality can be analysed by combining eye tracking with object detection. A real-time module was developed for Microsoft HoloLens 2 to capture gaze data, project fixation points onto videoframes, and check for overlaps with detected objects. In this context, “attention” is defined as the user’s visual focus point. The module streams video and gaze data to a YOLOv5 object detection server. Due to hardware constraints, the server processes around 3 frames per second, which is lower than ideal for real-time applications. A user study was conducted in a controlled environment containing both virtual and physical objects. No explicit instructions were given about task elements to avoid influencing natural attention patterns. The module detects object-gaze overlaps and records metrics like fixation duration and object distance. While performance is currently limited by processing speed, the module demonstrates a working prototype for analysing gaze behaviour in mixed reality environments.
Development of a filter system for dishwasher for reusing water
This thesis aims to develop an improved filtration system for industrial dishwashers, with the goal of enabling water reuse over multiple wash cycles without compromising cleaning performance. The work is based on an identified need from the company Nordisk Cleaning Solutions, where the current filter system clogs quickly and requires manual cleaning, leading to frequent water replacement and reduced functionality. Using a structured product development methodology—including requirements specification, concept generation, CAD modeling, simulation, and prototype manufacturing using 3D printing—several solution proposals were developed. Four different filter concepts were analyzed, and the most promising, a self-cleaning conical filter, was selected for further development. The prototype was first made of polylactid acid (PLA) and later of polycarbonate (PC) to withstand the mechanical and thermal demands of the test environment. Through practical testing involving pressure and flow measurements as well as visual analysis of residual debris, the new filter demonstrated improved performance compared to the existing system, particularly in maintaining water pressure and reducing dirt accumulation. The results show that the filter concept effectively removes finer particles without negatively affecting water flow, while its design enables self-cleaning. Although the new filter functions well in a test environment, further optimization is needed before commercial implementation. Nonetheless, it has the potential to reduce water consumption in line with modern environmental goals
Embassy of Sharing - Malmö
This paper focuses on Granitors project Embassy of Sharing in Hyllie (Malmö). The study explores how the project contributes to social sustainability, and the ways in which the sharing economy takes form. It also examines how the project attracts companies to establish themselves within the area. Granitors main objective is to create a sustainable urban district by mixing different types of businesses within the buildings, so that they can complement and benefit from each other. The study is based on interviews and employs a qualitative research method as the primary tool for data collection. Interviews were conducted with a project manager (Malmö stad), the leasing manager at Granitor for the Embassy of Sharing project, and with tenants - in this case, companies with offices in the building. The purpose of the interviews is to gain insight into their experiences and perceptions of the project. The results of the interviews indicate that Embassy of Sharing contributes to social sustainability in various ways, for example by providing numerous public spaces where people with different backgrounds can meet. Since the project is not yet completed, it remains uncertain to what extent social sustainability will manifest in the future. The study also highlights several ways in which the sharing economy is present in the project. Examples include shared spaces, knowledge sharing, digital platforms, geo-energi systems, and a shared carpool. The study further shows that the main reasons companies have chosen to establish themselves in Embassy of Sharing and Fyrtornet are the location, the potential for collaboration with other businesses, innovation, and the strengthened brand image associated with renting office space in an environmentally certified building. Future challenges related to the project have also been identified, particularly high thresholds in the form of expensive rents and costly condominiums. This could potentially lead to the exclusion of certain social groups and, as a result, may challenge the project’s ability to maintain social sustainability
Activists in Resistance : How do Slovak Cultural Workers Use Media to Challenge Cultural Hegemony and Political Pressures?
Passion in Fashion : Social media’s influence on parisian fashion entrepreneurs’ sense of authenticity and professional identity
This study explores the challenges and possibilities faced by entrepreneurial fashion professionals in Paris as they navigate a digitalised, individualised, and highly competitive industry. It examines how social media influences these working experiences, shaping their professional identities, business model, and sense of authenticity. Through a theoretically grounded thematic analysis of passion-driven work and authenticity, the research offers a nuanced perspective on both the emotional and structural dimensions of creative labour. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with ten fashion entrepreneurs, using snowball sampling. Rather than treating interview responses as isolated individual accounts, the study employs the political economy framework to situate them within the larger forces of power, labour, and digitised media systems. Findings highlight the tension between navigating authenticity in branding and maintaining personal integrity, as well as structural challenges such as financial instability, long hours, and blurred work-life boundaries. The mantra “Love what you do” emerges as both a coping mechanism and a romanticised ideal in an increasingly precarious work environment. Social media is revealed as a double-edged sword, fueling visibility and growth while also demanding constant presence and performance. Ultimately, the study underscores the importance of passion, bold beginnings, and a commitment to continuous learning. It offers valuable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs and contributes to broader discussions on the realities of creative work in the digital age.
