Parents’ and Children’s Experiences of Participation in the Family Centered Program for Problematic Gaming and Excessive Screen Use in Child and Adolescent Population

No full text
Background Screen use, including gaming and social media, has increased over the past decade, potentially having adverse effects on child development and mental health. To prevent the potential problems arising from excessive screen use (ESU) and problem gaming (PG) scholars have developed a Family centered program for PG and ESU (FAME) involving both children and at least one parent in the program. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of children’s and parents’ participation in the pilot-FAME program. Method Out of ten families who participated in the pilot-FAME, eight children (age 12–15; two girls), along with ten parents, out of which three fathers, participated in individual semi-structured interviews involving questions about a) families’ perceptions of the program and b) suggestions for improvement of the program. The data were analyzed with Reflexive Thematic Analysis. Results Four distinct themes were constructed: Theme 1, “Positivity regarding program”, Theme 2, “Criticism regarding the program”, Theme 3, “Program delivery”, and Theme 4, “Content development”. Specifically, while the program was well-received for its group format and the peer support it facilitated, making adaptions such as incorporating more discussion and learning opportunities, along with extending the duration, would have potential to improve its delivery and feasibility. Conclusion The pilot-FAME program shows promise in addressing the challenges associated with PG and ESU among children and their parents. With further refinements, the program could become an effective tool for supporting healthy family dynamics and screen use. CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 Funding:Frimurare Barnhus Foundation 2023/24.ECK work is financed by Swedish governmental funding of clinical research (ALF)</p

No full text
Objective: The study aimed to explore attitudes and beliefs among midwives, obstetricians, and neonatologists regarding umbilical cord clamping practices, including scenarios involving neonatal compromise. The study was conducted in the context of exploring the potential for implementing intact cord resuscitation. Study design: A national cross-sectional survey was administered electronically, using an adaptation of the previously used questionnaire developed by Jelin et al. The survey was conducted among midwives, nursing staff, obstetricians, and pediatricians/neonatologists from September 2022 to August 2023. Results were analyzed and reported using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: Of 838 respondents analyzed, 94% reported cord clamping timing being "very or moderately important" for neonatal outcomes, where midwives more frequently chose "very important" compared to physicians (p < 0.001). Midwives commonly preferred an event-based (e.g., cessation of pulsations) approach to cord clamping. In scenarios involving resuscitation, 27% of midwives and 10% of pediatric physicians, preferred an event-based approach to cord clamping, with a significant difference between groups (p = 0.005). Among obstetricians, 28.8% reported considering an event-based approach to cord clamping in elective cesarean sections. In resuscitation scenarios, obstetricians predominantly selected < 30 s as the preferred timing for cord clamping, whereas pediatric physicians were less likely to do so (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Timing of cord clamping is considered important among respondents. The study reveals a generally positive attitude towards delayed cord clamping among health care professionals in Sweden, with notable variations between professional groups. The interprofessional differences highlight the need for shared guidelines and collaborative training to support the potential implementation of intact cord resuscitation.CC BY</p

Correlating melt pool geometry with temperature dynamics in laser directed energy deposition with wire : insights and industrial implications

No full text
Directed energy deposition using laser beam and wire feed is a critical technology in high-productivity metal additive manufacturing, enabling precise deposition and fabrication of components with high quality and deposition rates. The interaction between the laser beam and metal is highly temperature-sensitive, affecting metal transfer, melting, solidification, and phase transformations. Effective control of heat input is crucial for influencing the geometry, microstructure, and overall integrity of the fabricated parts. This study investigates the correlation between the melt pool top surface boundary contour and the immediate solidification temperature, utilizing machine vision and radiation pyrometer measurements. The research highlights the significance of melt pool length as an indicator of temperature variations during deposition. System identification techniques were employed to develop a predictive model of the dynamic relationship between melt pool length and temperature, aimed at enhancing process control strategies. Our approach substitutes off-axis pyrometry with a cost-effective coaxial vision camera integrated into the laser head. By incorporating a vision camera without active illumination, the study offers a compact, omnidirectional solution. Comparative analysis of melt pool length and area measurements demonstrates the superiority of length-based correlations with temperature data. This work addresses the challenges of heat-input control in directed energy deposition laser beam wire processes and suggests future research directions in various metal alloys, complex geometries, and advanced sensing and automatic control methodologies.CC BY 4.0FundingOpen access funding provided by University West. “Being on the edge, longing for the hand that shows the way”- : A meta-synthesis of women's experiences of midwife support during the latent phase

No full text
Background: Women admitted to hospital during the latent phase are at higher risk of various interventions. Maternity care should enable informed decision-making and provide continuous support throughout the different labour phases.Aim: To synthesise available research on women’s experiences of labour ward midwife support during the latent phase. Methods: A meta-synthesis as outlined by Walsh and Downe was conducted to generate a nuanced understanding of the findings from qualitative studies. A search using key words was undertaken in the following databases: PubMed, Cinahl, Scopus, Web of science and Psycinfo. Papers were included if published since 2014, in the English language and contained qualitative data addressing the study aim. Findings: A total of nine studies were included. The result was divided into three themes: Telephone calls - being listened to or not, Video calls - seeing and being seen, In-person meeting – trying to pass the admission test. Women could feel either satisfied or dissatisfied after a phone call, video call, or visit to the labour ward; hence the form of contact was not the most significant factor, but how the midwife met and treated the woman. Synthesis: Women who sought professional support, emphasized the need for a sensitive and individualized approach. The midwife—via phone, video, or in person—held the authority to decide on admission. Conclusion: This meta-synthesis clearly highlights the gap in available care between the late stage of pregnancy and the active phase of labour, as well as the focus of midwives in labour ward care.CC BY 4.0</p

The parametric investigation and microstructural characterization of laser directed energy deposited NiCrAlY powder

No full text
NiCrAlY as a coating is often used to improve the high temperature strength and oxidation performance of superalloys. Traditionally these coatings are deposited using various thermal spray techniques. Producing these coatings with Additive Manufacturing methods like the Directed Energy Deposition with Laser Beam (DED-LB) process improves the coating-substrate bonding. Subsequently, it enhances the high-temperature capability. To achieve this, understanding the correlation between process parameters and microstructure is crucial. The commercially available NiCrAlY powder is deposited on the alloy 718 substrate in this study. A two level three factor design of experiments was conducted for single track and three-layer track depositions. Statistical analysis was used to understand the effect of the primary process parameters (laser power, scan speed and powder feed rate) on the geometrical characteristics such as height and width of the deposition, and dilution of the substrate. Microstructural studies revealed the transformation in grain morphology from intra-dendritic mode of precipitation to inter-dendritic mode of precipitation with dilution from the substrate. From the Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy analysis, the formation of γ-Ni matrix phase and β-NiAl precipitate phase was confirmed. Samples with low dilution exhibited high hardness in accordance with high β phase content. In the three-layer tracks, the presence of hard and brittle β phase along the dendritic boundaries led to surface cracking due to stress build up.CC BY 4.0</p

The nurse in child healthcare as a craftsman to use professional competence and build a health promotive relationship : an observation study

No full text
Purpose: To explore how child healthcare (CHC) nurses use their professional competence to promote health in families with children. Method: An explorative qualitative study was conducted based on data from participant observations and informal conversations. The sample comprised 12 CHC nurses who were observed for 31.5 hours during 23 health visits, 17 phone calls, and 9 team visits, totalling 49 observations. The results were analysed using a qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in one theme: Health promotion as a professional competence is a craft of interaction for caring and mutual learning. The theme describes how CHC nurses use professional competence as a health promotion approach to create trust, where the decision-making and guidance of parents are skills that depend on interaction, which is an ongoing process. The shared learning outcome of the encounter was dependent on a healthy learning process. Conclusion: A health promotion approach was a part of CHC nurses’ professional compe-tence, which involves interaction for caring and sharing mutual learning. The ongoing processof healthy learning occurs through interactions between nurses, children, and families. This process can be considered as a pedagogical work-integrated learning tool.CC BY 4.0</p

Röra vid böcker : Diskursiva och materiella arrangemang kring bebisars boksamvaro

No full text
