“Fem tysta” och andra disciplinerande strategier
In this study, we take the concept of care in school-age educare centres’ routine situations as a point of departure in order to make visible children’s perspective on the task of care and relations. The study is based on group interviews with 170 children in 45 groups (ages 6-11) from twelve different centers. In the study the concepts of care, relationships and time hold a central analytical position in the analysis of the children’s expression. The results of the analysis are shown in three themes: Wandering between different time slots morning and afternoon, Snack-time structured through hourglasses and "five silent" and It's not so fun to stay until closing time. Overall, the study’s analysis reveals a picture of the school-age educare centres’ routine situations as deeply problematic and morally challenging, where the children are socialized into routines free from care and meaning. Exploring Authenticity in the Dialogical Self : A Conceptual Assemblage
In dialogical self theory (DST) authenticity has not been a central concern. The humanist notion of a static, higher-order, superordinate, ultimate, and “true” self runs counter to the ontology of DST, and the conceptualization of the dialogical self as unconsolidated, multifaceted, dynamic, and sensitive to situational change. In a climate in which the psychology of authenticity is undergoing revision—and in which the existence of a “true” “inner” self is increasingly questioned—it is these qualities that make DST highly suited to the investigation of authenticity in contemporary life. Four aspects of DST can facilitate the exploration of authenticity: (1) the function of personal positions and their role in shaping and stylizing social positions, (2) how I-positions differ in relation to openness to innovation and the degree to which they are personally endorsed, (3) how I-positions can encompass a shared identity and can express a collective voice, and (4) the emotional tenor of experiences involving authenticity. To illustrate the utility of this conceptual assemblage, a case study of the authenticity experiences of an early-career language teacher is presented. The study demonstrates how, in the dialogical self, authenticity involves the experience of how one is in one’s actions and in one’s relationships.CC-BY 4.0</p
The aim of the study was to investigate the connections between perceived loneliness, identity development and social support, as well as to analyze how these factors influence risk-taking behavior in young adults. The study was based on a quantitative method with an online survey completed by N= 32 respondents. The questions in the study were based on whether there was a relationship between the variables and its impact on risk-taking by young adults. The result showed that there is a negative significant relationship between perceived emotional support and feelings of loneliness (r= -.75 (p = <.001). That is, the young adults who experience better emotional support from their environment reported lower levels of loneliness. Loneliness did not directly appear to have any effect on young adults' risk-taking, which was shown in the result which was negative, not significant r= -.00, (p =.49).What could also be read in the analysis was that better self-esteem was associated with lower levels of risk-taking r = -.27 (p = .14), and that young adults with good self-esteem tended to feel less alone r= -.31 (p = .08). The analyzes approached the level of significance, but with a low number of participants, the expected results were not reached
The Role of Controversy in Interprofessional Learning in Mental Health Care : A Case Study.
An interprofessional team was commissioned to give their response to a law proposal in compulsory psychiatric care. In this work a controversy arose due to the opposing opinions within the team about the use of a restraining method. This study aimed to investigate how the team handled the controversy and how the strategies used had implications for interprofessional learning (IPL), which is the learning that arises from interactions between different professions. In this case study, interviews were conducted and a narrative analysis was used. The controversy was primarily managed through compromise. The findings reveal how IPL was negatively affected when the members projected expert dominance. The team used three problem-solving tactics: defining and arguing the problem as belonging to the own area of expertise, mobilization of external experts to bring new arguments for the own rational fact, and, a negotiated closure or a compromise. Consequently, the findings also showed that even if power dominance was exerted, social affective learning was possible. Constructive management of these controversies is crucial to improve the quality of mental health care. Controversial dilemmas often arise in complex mental health care; therefore, strengthening the capacity to respect and maximize diversity of expertise for patient-centered problem solving is recommended
The nurse’s experiences of meeting patients with suicidal behavior : A literature-based study
Background: Mental illness is increasing globally, and suicide may feel like the only option for those affected. Stigma often prevents open discussion about mental health and suicidal thoughts. Nurses have an important role providing empathetic support while maintaining their own well-being. Aim: This study aimed to describe the nurses’ experiences of meeting patients with suicidal behavior. Method: A literature-based study was conducted, and eleven qualitative articles were analyzed according to Friberg’s five-step model. Results: The results were generated in three main themes. The first theme, to be emotionally exposed, describes how meetings with patients with suicidal behavior affected nurses emotionally and psychologically, which caused feelings of anxiety, anger, worry, frustration and powerlessness. The second theme, challenges in patient-centered care, describes nurses’ lack of knowledge with meeting patients with suicidal behavior and conversation methodology. The third theme, to take responsibility for the caring relationship, describes how the nurses considered it important to be present during meetings with patients with suicidal behavior and to communicate clearly to build a caring relationship. Conclusion: Nurses are emotionally affected when caring for patients with suicidal behavior, which negatively impacts their well-being and the quality of patient-centered care. Limited suicide knowledge, organizational barriers and challenges in communication are barriers in their efforts to provide care. Improved support from chiefs, including better work environments, guidance and training in suicide prevention are essential for nurses when caring for patients with suicidal behavior
The Central Role of Learning in Preventing Foot Complications in Persons With Diabetes : A Scoping Review
Background: Despite a variety of literature reviews, there is limited understanding of the learning strategies healthcare professionals use to help patients adopt and maintain effective foot care practices. Aim: To explore learning processes and educational strategies for persons with diabetes focusing on foot care and examine how different learning processes influence these strategies. Method: The scoping review followed the methodological framework established by Arksey and O'Malley and refined by Levac et al. Additionally, the PRISMA-ScR checklist was followed. A literature search was conducted in the PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE and Academic Search Premier databases, using specific search terms related to diabetic foot care and learning strategies. The selection process involved screening 906 articles based on inclusion criteria such as relevance to diabetic foot care, learning processes, and educational strategies, and excluded studies that were not written in English. The data were charted and quantitative and qualitative data were synthesised and thematically analysed to identify key learning strategies. Results:The analysis identified two main themes: learning insights for comprehensive understanding and self-efficacy, and increased practical knowledge leads to improved footcare. Subthemes included integrative and reflective learning, motivational and collaborative learning, task-oriented and procedural learning, and feedback and reinforcement-based learning. Conclusion: Effective diabetic foot care education should be multifaceted, incorporating deep learning, practical skills, and motivational elements. Early learning plays a central role in this process. Tailoring educational interventions to personal learning styles and providing continuous support can significantly improve patients' foot care outcomes. A framework for understanding the progressive stages of patient learning and self-management is presented as a starting point. Future research should focus on developing and evaluating educational models that address diverse learning needs, ultimately contributing to better management and prevention of diabetic foot complications.CC-BY 4.0</p
Sustainable machining of aluminum MMCs : The role of biomimetic textured cutting tools in cryogenic conditions
This study evaluated the feasibility of laser-textured biomimetic designs for cutting tools to investigate the effects of laser-textured tools combined with cryogenic cooling using liquid nitrogen (LN2) on the tool-chip interface, built-up edge (BUE) formation, and friction during Al-MMC machining. This study involved selecting a biomimetic design, converting it into a textured cutting tool, evaluating the coefficient of friction (CoF) and cutting forces on the textured surface under dry conditions, and using cryogenic LN2 as a coolant with the textured tool. Femtosecond lasers were used to precisely create biomimetic surfaces near the rake face edge without compromising tool integrity. The pin-on-disc method revealed no significant CoF difference between plain and textured tools or among textured tools within the determinate pin load impact. Dry machining tests showed a higher CoF than the pin-on-disc method owing to strong workpiece material adhesion. Cutting force analysis under dry and textured conditions showed negligible effects on aggregate force components, although textured tools had a higher feed force than untextured ones. Cryogenic cooling with plain tools reduced BUE height, TCClength, and TCCarea compared to dry conditions. Textured tools in dry conditions increased BUE height and acted as chip breakers, reducing TCClength and TCCarea compared to dry plain tools. Most textured tools with cryogenic cooling reduced the BUE height, TCClength, and TCCarea compared to their dry-textured counterparts. The findings suggest that combining biomimetic textured cutting tools with cryogenic machining is a promising approach for sustainable manufacturing of Al-MMC’s. CC BY 4.0</p
Patient experiences of preoperative worry and anxiety : A literature review
Background Preoperative worry and anxiety are subjective experiences. During the preoperative phase, fear and uncertainty about the surgery and/or anesthesia are common and may manifest through psychological and physiological reactions. The nurse’s responsibility in the preoperative phase is to prepare the patient with accurate information, which can contribute to improved surgical outcomes. The nurse’s approach should be grounded in person-centered care, recognizing the patient as an individual with a unique story. To achieve this goal, more knowledge is needed about the patient's experience of anxiety and worry before surgery. Aim The aim was to describe patients' worries and anxiety in the preoperative phase in order to create an understanding of their nursing care needs. Method The method in this study was a literature review based on qualitative studies. The data collection was carried out from the databases CINAHL and PubMed. A total of 11 qualitative articles were included. The selected articles were analyzed and synthesized to form a new whole with a novel result. Results The results revealed that preoperative worry and anxiety are influenced by various factors. Many patients describe fears related to different symptoms, complications, and how these may affect their lives after surgery. The anxiety can also stem from the healthcare environment, lack of information, and uncertainty regarding the healthcare staff. Conclusion The conclusion reveals that many factors influence the patient’s experience of preoperative worry and anxiety. In the preoperative phase, the nurse has an important role in addressing the patient’s care needs to alleviate preoperative worry and anxiety.
