No full textDetta arbete är den första forskningsrapporten från projektet "Jordbrukskooperativet och landsbygdsutveckling i Kenya". Projektet startades 1983 på initiativ av docent Björn Gyllström på Kulturgeografiska institutionen vid universitetet i Lund. Kibirigwi-föreningen är belägen i ett expansivt kaffeområde och har en dynamisk ekonomi. Det kooperativa ministeriets tjänstemän ansåg föreningen vara en av de bättre i Kenya samtidigt som den också representerade ett genomsnitt av distriktets kaffekooperativ. Därmed skulle föreningen komma att ge en analytisk motvikt till det stora material om kooperativa misslyckanden i tredje världen, dessutom fanns tillgång till historiskt material
