    Detta arbete är den första forskningsrapporten från projektet "Jordbrukskooperativet och landsbygdsutveckling i Kenya". Projektet startades 1983 på initiativ av docent Björn Gyllström på Kulturgeografiska institutionen vid universitetet i Lund. Kibirigwi-föreningen är belägen i ett expansivt kaffeområde och har en dynamisk ekonomi. Det kooperativa ministeriets tjänstemän ansåg föreningen vara en av de bättre i Kenya samtidigt som den också representerade ett genomsnitt av distriktets kaffekooperativ. Därmed skulle föreningen komma att ge en analytisk motvikt till det stora material om kooperativa misslyckanden i tredje världen, dessutom fanns tillgång till historiskt material

    The Ngorongoro Highlands and the serengeti Plains in nothern Tanzania are renowed for their abundant wildlife and scenic beauty. Ngorongoro is also the home of some 15,000 semi-nomadic Maasai pastorialists. Together with their herds of domestic stock they have for generations coexisted peacefully with the wildlife in the area.
