    We report the first finding of the antlion Distoleon tetragrammicus (Fabricius, 1798) fromSweden. Several adults of the species have been collected or photographed on the island ofGotland in the Baltic Sea, between 2017 and 2021. The first finding is from Tofta skjutfält,a sandy military training ground vegetated with pines and mixed forests on the west coastof Gotland. Based on multi-year observations at the same locality as well as video recordingof an egglaying female it is clearly a resident population, even though larvae are yet to bedocumented. Distoleon tetragrammicus is not previously known from any of the Nordic orBaltic countries. The species is common in southern Europe with a wide distribution acrosswest palearctic and becomes rarer towards central Europe. The closest known locality isan outpost population on the Hel peninsula on the Polish Baltic coast which we speculateis the most probable source, 240km south of Gotland across the Baltic sea. Previously butthree species of antlions were known from the Nordic-Baltic countries, all belonging to thetypical pitfall trap-building tribe Myrmeleontini and subfamily Myrmeleontinae: Myrmeleonformicarius (Linnaeus, 1767), Myrmeleon bore (Tjeder, 1941) and Euroleon nostras (Geoffroyin Fourcroy, 1785). Distoleon tetragrammicus belongs to subfamily Nemoleontinae (tribeNemoleontini) with larvae being ambush predators without the behaviour of building pitfalltraps. We provide an identification key, as well as studio and field photographs of all fourNordic species.     The Naucoridae (Heteroptera: Nepomorpha) of Madagascar, with revisions of Temnocoris and Tsingala (Laccocorinae)

    The island nation of Madagascar was surveyed extensively through a series of expeditions to determine the fauna of Naucoridae. Previously, 17 species in four genera had been reported from the country. All taxa previously recorded from Madagascar were re-collected, with the exception of three species, Macrocoris flavicollis Signoret, Temnocoris starmuhlneri Poisson, and Tsingala nossibeanus (Bergroth). Macrocoris flavicollis is removed from the list of species occurring in Madagascar. Within Laccocorini (Laccocorinae), a new genus, Gonioathrix n.gen. is described; Temnocoris and Tsingala are revised; three new species are described in Temnocoris (T. leachi n.sp., T. montandoni n.sp., T. poissoni n.sp.) and four in Tsingala (T. angulata n.sp., T. latiforma n.sp., T. spatulata n.sp., T. trilobata n.sp.). Lectotypes are designated for Afronaucoris madagascariensis (Montandon), Tsingala humeralis (Signoret), and T. naucoroides (Montandon). In Macrocorinae, a new species of Macrocoris, M. namorona n.sp., from Ranomafana National Park is described. These taxonomic actions bring the total for the country to five genera and 25 species.     Catalogue of revised and new plant macrofossils from the Aquitanian-Burdigalian of Soma (W Turkey) – Biogeographic and palaeoclimatic implications

    The position of Turkey between Europe and Asia makes this region interesting for palaeobotanical investigations. We investigated plant macrofossils from early Miocene deposits of W Turkey (Soma, Manisa) and compiled a catalogue of revised and new plant taxa. We documented 100 fossil-taxa, of which several are new for Turkey (Mahonia aff. pseudosimplex, Ziziphus paradisiaca, Comptonia longirostris, Carya denticulata, Viscum, Fatsia, Pungiphyllum cruciatum). Some previous records are rejected (e.g. Apocynophyllum, Cassia, Castanea, Ficus, Illicium, Liriodendron, Vaccinium). Using modern ecology and taphonomy, we reconstructed palaeoenvironments. We found evidence for a belt of drier, more open habitats with cycads, Dracaena, Mahonia, Smilax miohavanensis, and others. Other vegetation units comprise swamp and riparian forest with few dominants (expressed in highabundance of leaf specimens). On well-drained soils, lowland forest with large-leaved Lauraceae vel Fagaceae and rare elements (Fatsia) was present, while humid temperate broadleaf-deciduous and conifer forest flourished higher up. To infer palaeoclimate we used the Climate Leaf Analysis Multivariate Program (CLAMP) and compared the results with other Miocene localities of Turkey. Early Miocene floras had warm climates (mean annual temperature, MAT, and coldest month temperature, CMMT) with weak precipitation seasonality. MAT and CMMT were cooler during the early middle Miocene. Several fossil-taxa at Soma have biogeographic links with older/coeval localities in C Europe and/or the W Mediterranean region (cycads, Torreya, Dracaena, Smi-lax miohavanensis, Mahonia aff. pseudosimplex, Carya denticulata, Ilex miodipyrena, Pungiphyllum). Few taxa have clear links to C Asian floras (Comptonia longirostris). True E Mediterranean endemics are even rarer (Mahoniaspp., Quercus sosnowskyi)

    Diversification and community assembly of the world’s largest tropical island

    Aim The species diversity and endemism of tropical biotas are major contributors to global biodiversity, but the factors underlying the formation of these systems remain poorly understood. Location The world's largest tropical island, New Guinea. Time period Miocene to present. Major taxa studied Passerine birds. Methods We first generated a species-level phylogeny of all native breeding passerine birds to analyse spatial and elevational patterns of species richness, species age and phylogenetic diversity. Second, we used an existing dataset on bill morphology to analyse spatial and elevational patterns of functional diversity. Results The youngest New Guinean species are principally distributed in the lowlands and outlying mountain ranges, with the lowlands also maintaining the majority of non-endemic species. In contrast, many species occurring in the central mountain range are phylogenetically distinct, range-restricted, endemic lineages. Centres of accumulation for the oldest species are in montane forest, with these taxa having evolved unique bill forms in comparison to the remaining New Guinean species. For the morphological generalists, attaining a highland distribution does not necessarily represent the end to dispersal and diversification, because a number of new species have formed in the outlying mountain ranges, following recent colonization from the central range. Main conclusions We conclude that a general model of tropical montane diversification is that lineages commonly colonize the lowlands, shifting their ranges upslope through time to become range-restricted montane forest endemics, attaining novel functional adaptations to these environments

    The Palaeobotany Department of the Swedish Museum of Natural History was established in the late 1800s and has supported research on a diverse range of plants of all ages. The Department hosts, manages, and regularly contributes additional material to, one of the largest fossil plant collections in Europe. The fossil collections have provided the basis for several thousand scientific publications by staff and visiting scientists over the course of its history. In addition to the work of its staff, the department has hosted many hundreds of visiting scientists over the past 140 years. It will continue to provide an invaluable resource for research on the evolution of plant and fungal life on Earth for long into the future. Now under the management of just its sixth administrative Head since 1884, the department is forging new pathways in palaeobotanical research utilizing cutting-edge technologies to provide advances in plant systematics, phylogeny, biogeography, biostratigraphy, palaeoenvironmental analysis, plant-animal interactions, and fossil fungal/microbial studies. The department is aware of multiple risks facing the survival of palaeontological collections in the 21st century and has put in place strategies to maintain access to and relevancy of the collections for future generations.Additional funding from the 11th EPPC Organizing Committee</p

    As part of the study of the cycle of matter in nature, the hydro-biogenic-mantle concept of hydrocarbon formation was developed and and the search structural-thermo-atmospheric-hydrological-geochemical technology was created on its basis. Theoretical and applied bases of system geological-thermo-atmogeochemical technology with the use of a complex of tectonic, morphostructural, lithological-stratigraphic, formation-sedimentation, geophysical, hydrological, thermometric, atmogeochemical methods are stated. This research technology was successfully implemented in the process of forecasting and exploration works both on land and in the Black and Azov seas at the Eastern, Western, Southern oil and gas regions of Ukraine, impact structures, coal deposits using specially designed equipment. The sources of restoration of hydrocarbon deposits in operation were substantiated. The analysis of the location of oil and gas fields and hydrogeological basins of world hydrocarbon production allowed to substantiate and introduce into the new search technology of hydrocarbon accumulations the most important search criteria - hydrological-structural and geochemical elements, that reflect the nature of the canyons of delta river systems, as well as generators of hydrobiogenic methane-forming processes located in their basins. This monograph can be useful and informative for specialists in the field of oil and gas geology, general and regional geology, hydrology, environmental protection, students and graduate students of fuel and energy, oil and gas geology and hydrology, as well as domestic and foreign investors.В рамках вивчення кругообігу речовини в природі розроблена гідро-біогенно-мантійна концепція утвореннявуглеводнів і на її основі створено пошукову структурно-термо-атмо-гідролого-геохімічну технологію. Викладено теоретичніта прикладні засади системної геолого-термо-атмогеохімічної технології з використанням комплексу тектонічних,морфоструктурних, літолого-стратиграфічних, формаційно-седиментаційних, геофізичних, гідрологічних, термометричних,атмогеохімічних методів.Дана технологія досліджень була успішно впроваджена в процесі прогнозно-пошукових робіт, як на суші, так і вакваторії Чорного і Азовського морів на об'єктах Східного, Західного, Південного нафтогазоносних регіонів України,імпактних структур, вугільних родовищ з використанням спеціально створених апаратурних комплексів.
